engine knocking quite bad

Hi I went for a drive today and my engine started to knock I think its bottom end. I then checked dip stick and no oil reading. How much damage do you think may be caused and is it expensive

if you have no oil in your engine the engine will have far more damage than just the bottom end buddy

do you mean you have an oil leak and let it run completely empty and now the engine is knocking ?

Running an engine with no oil is as bad as it can get really. Other than throwing a rod through the block...

Topped oil up was just over a ltr to take it to full on dip stick and now there is nearly no noise now. Do u think get my crank reground with new shells

Dose anyone no a place close to east Sussex that can carry work out on my crank and supply new big end shells

My mechanic said he gonna take sump off and take out big end bearings to check crank if all OK will need a set of the big end bearings if any one has a set kicking around

You engine managment light should have come on if you were running with no oil ........... Might want to think about dropping a second hand engine will be far cheaper than parts and labour to repair but then again you could have been extreammly lucky and you havnt done to much damage

Yh oil light came on but by time I got to garage it started to make noise. Now oil topped up noise nearly gone. I drove it home from garage as only a few minutes fells good still just noisey over 3000rpm
