Anyone know what's up with my engine?

So recently done the headgasket on my GT and ever since then there's been a couple of strange things happening;

Firstly engine management light comes on after 2300revs, when the head was being removed by me and my friend, he pulled a wire and out came the wire and a sensor of some kind. Would I be right in saying knock sensor?

Next there is a distinct 'supercharger' like whistle coming from the cambelt side of the engine. Told it could be the belt being too tight?

Finally there is a prominent 'tick' again coming from the cambelt side, can only be heard when I go past about 1/4 throttle and its frequency increases the more I put my foot down, however it does go away eventually.

Side note the engine smells very hot.

Any ideas?

Yes thats sounds like the knock sensor.thats a right pain to get right again if broken as its sheilded and earthed also.

the whine I wud guess is a boost leak.

The tick may just be the bottom pulley hitting the cambelt cover... Easily damaged especially when people are a bit ignorant taking the pulley off

i think the whine is as you said belt to tight and Wpump and altenater bearings whining

engine to hot , is fan kicking in and thermostat opening ???

This is the ticking noise, it goes when warmed up and only is apparent when the engine is revved quickly, a steady increase is fine
