Diagnostic mode?

I need to check the ignition timing on my glanza.

Is the procedure to put the car it diagnostic mode to:

Ignition off

Bridge terminal e1 and te1

Ignition on

Start car

Check timing and adjust

And I just remove the bridge when I'm done?
