JDMfreak
as above mate of mine bought a little ep80 and we were told distributor was shot so we replaced it with a good one and still no spark has had new plugs leads distributor is self inside looks new what could we be missing just for refernce this is the 2ee engine the 1.3 12v efi engine ive done some digging about theres a plug with 4 wires red/yellow/blue/and white ive checked these for power with ignition on and nothing from any of them now there is also another little plug which has two wires solid black and black with orange tracer the wire with an orange tracer when i use a test light shows theres power in that wire im a bit stumped to what could have cause the sudden power loss as we were told car was running
5e colin
ecu could be fucked or wire broken between ecu and dizzy there a simple setup ( no external coil ) now recheck them wires ( coming from ecu ) while cranking and check the dizzy pins them selves to ( on the dizzy itselve ) there should be 1 wire ign ( i think ) that has power when ignition is on make sure the fuse aint blown in the cabin Edited June 5, 2015 by 5e colin
JDMfreak
i tried a 4efe ecu colin out of a 96 starlet as the have same pin setup and still no spark yeah i knew they had a built in coil as my 1.0 12v gt rep is the same but i only have the two wires black/black with orange tracer i did test them wires at the 4pin plug and got my mate to crank the car well flick the key and none of them lit up the testing light (power tester) yeah i didnt have a multi meter to check current through coil so this is the next step wheres this wire there should be 1 wire ign ( i think ) that has power when ignition is on make sure the fuse aint blown in the cabin the wire with orange tracer has power when igniiton is on but i think thats for the amplifier inside dizzy
Stu
The 4 pin plug is for the trigger input wiring from the trigger wheels inside the distributor back to the ecu - the engine will definitely not run without this plugged in, and the wiring needs to be correct. They are not powered wires so you wont get any voltage from them. They supply a wave form back to the ecu when its turning over. The other wire is the coil power and coil negative (tacho signal) and you will get a 12v reading from this. With both plugs connected if you spin the dizzy by hand can you hear the fuel pump prime and the injectors click?

Stu
Just use a multimeter to check for continuity from the dizzy plug to the ecu. Its the NE, G-, G1 and E21 pins from memory. You've checked the ecu is actually powered up?
JDMfreak
ok i'll check them I'd presume its getting power the ecu everything else is working I think lol my electric skills aren't great now
Stu
Check the BATT, +B and +B1 pins are getting 12v. The BATT pin should be constant (memory)
JDMfreak
OK thanks stu will give me some kind of idea what's going on I may try find a pic of the pin out of the 2ee ecu so I know where to test them wires coming out of the ecu
