daniel_g Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 I used some old black halfords paint for the core, worked well actually. Quote
Neo95 Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 Its the core that im looking at painting i wondering do i just black paint it or do i have to prime an all that Quote
daniel_g Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 I never primed it or fuck all, held up ok apart from the odd stone chip. Quote
Neo95 Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 Yeee did you key the end caps at all? Quote
daniel_g Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Nah i never bothered. There was silicone joiners over the ends anyway.Mine was just done quickly, its probably best to take your time, rough it and prime it etc Quote
Bug679 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 How come ya wanna paint it is it just for looks ? Quote
Neo95 Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 Yeee just to hide it behind the bumper a little thats all Quote

Starbo Moorley Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Halfords matte black, can be done with no prep but I've found it comes up abit better if you clean and etch it.Done it too all my cars with an fmic, it's proven that there are performance gains to be had from blacking an inter-cooler core believe it or not Quote
Neo95 Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 Would primering it not block the core itself or would it be ok. Just dont want to paint it then like month down the road its all flaking off like. Starbo Moorley Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) Nah don't primer it, clean it and etch it lightly spray it (in a dry place) leave to dry for 30 minutes do another layer leave another 30 minutes then your all good, every time I clean my car (once it's fully dried) i spray over any marks in the core whilst it's still in place, just be careful not to get over spray on your bumper if your spraying close to it. glanzagee Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Could I ask how is the intercooler supposed to disapate the heat effectively with a coat of paint on it ? Quote
Neo95 Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 Very good point but surely when cold air is hitting it would it keep it cold. Could I ask how is the intercooler supposed to disapate the heat effectively with a coat of paint on it ? Quote
Starbo Moorley Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) https://youtu.be/f1QL9veQaNgIt's a good watch, I know over here the results won't be as dramatic but it proves a point Edited January 18, 2016 by Starbo Moorley Quote
