  1. cheers guys,

and it was soooo close to going to JAE last year, only reason it didnt go is because my insurance docs hadnt came through so i couldnt get my window repaired!!! and fingers crossed i dont break it before JAE this year lol

  2. The engine is more or less an AE86 design so they put the dizzy on the side as if it was on the back it would be against the bulk head,

the same for the water pipe, mounted inline it would go straight onto a front mount radiator, the only thing they did was put a mount on the front (pulley side) and crammed a fwd gearbox on it and fitted it in sideways lol, the AE82 and AE92 both used this design.

when they did the 20v head they redesigned the water ways for FWD see bigT-sr for his water pipe.

and yes you do have to cut the chassis leg to make it fit, but only on the gearbox side, well unless you want powersteering etc, i have a half sized or single pulley on mine as it wouldnt fit otherwise lol

And the donor 'CARS' were a bigport and smallport ae92 corolla gti-16 both kindly donated by my brother lol

  3. rite just do do my usual once in a blue moon update,

having been ragging the pants off a seemingly indestructible engine for the last couple of months, i have managed to break...

my ecu, blew up a solder inside from putting sum quick fit plugs in the wrong sockets. luckily my dad fixed it in 30mins of him looking at it!!

    and

a driveshaft... after showing off to sum dub geeks and getting a lecture off of my brother about having to rag the engine to make it move.

well it went thru 1st alrite and then in to 2nd and BANG and a couple of clonks from the underside of the car later and a good ol walk back down the road later i found this...

so im currently making a new set from the old corrola ones.

and also rather than having a ratty old mildsteel water pipe rattling on my manifold i desided to get a nice stainless steel pipe custom made to fit around everything in the engine bay, makes it alot tidyer finish me thinks.

    old and new

    old

    and new

    DSC02126.jpg

I've also desided to go a little bit crazy with my cam covers I've desided illuminous is the way forward,

I've only half done of one at the mo.. the others going orange!!!

    DSC02108.jpg

and the origonals with 175,000miles and 20 years wear and tear

    DSC02101.jpg

oh n just incase you ever wondered how tight a fit these engines are in these bays this is my water pump pully and chassis rail, the gearbox is half that from the inner wing.

    DSC02118.jpg

so yeah ill be back in a few months maybe with a different colour set of wheels and some decent driveshafts, and maybe some Itb's on this engine lol

  4. yeah its a bit old and i never update it,

and the engine in the pics is actally a smallport but it spun a bearring and think the oil pump packed up,

which is why i now have a bigport for a run around,

and as the itb setup goes it will be stock 20v bodies with either a custom or a TTT (technotoytuning) adapter plate, with standalone (poss megasquirt but unsure atm) and some other bits and bobs like cams, head work, i know i deff will need uprated head and rod studs, and then maybe internals, but havnt desided yet.

  5. lol yeah sorry i tent to drift off,

yeah like sparky said corolla gti, and my 1st engine, from the white one above, was the later spec 128-133bhp and 112-114lb/ft not sure I've herd different things

the one i have now is the earlier spec 122bhp and a smaller but higher powerband and less torque

yeah theirs alot of work and i couldnt have done it on my own, custom mounts, driveshafts a chassis rail has to be cut and I've got a ground up wiring loom, and because the 4age should have had a oil pressure guage my oil light is always on lol.

tbh their isnt a lot of point of doing this swap becoz you get the 4efte with the same power and easier potential, but its N/A and luvs it to 7700 standard, and can be made to go over 10 000 rpm, but thats loooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaadssssss of £££ B)

  6. hey good news, as of september the car was running for 75miles and then spun a bearing lol oops, fixed that and then it started rattling so i came to the conclusion that the oil pump had failed. so whilst the engine was out my bro stacked his other corolla gti, so i stole that engine a ran it on the wrong ecu for 3 months and now where changing the ecu for the correct one but for this i had to change the dizzy and when i did that the main coil lead snapped so im now waiting a new one! lol

oh well the other engines getting a rebuild and itb's etc etc so all worked out well in the end

p.s with the 1st engine in it went like stink!!

it was fun whilst it lasted but was prob my fault it broke

  7. We've only just this week finished my car im getting a new windscreen fitted tomorrow morning an mot just after that then get tax then pack the car and then hopefully roll out! and my birthdays on saturday so im getting f**ked all weekend with or without my car there!

i can see this being a very restless night for a few of us lol

  8. i have the same problem i just brought a set and there too big aswell i do have a couple of plans up my sleeve if the problem can't be solved,

one of which will mean machining them to size, the other is try a set of later spec corolla gti calipers as they 'might' fit and give the extra clearance needed.

  9. right well I've... well me and my my mates have been busy over the last few weeks i now have a garage and an engine crane and everything and well i now have a 4a-ge 16v in my car! :D its not finished by a long shot but its deffinatly a massive step in the right direction so anyway here are a few pics

    DSC01524.jpg

with my nice and shiney manifold he he

    DSC01506.jpg

    DSC01516.jpg

my nice solid cam end engine mount

    DSC01520.jpg

the clearance under the cradle bar and my rear mount

    DSC01517.jpg

    and the gearbox mounting

    DSC01527.jpg

you can see my front engine mount (without a mount in it) and my honda ramming bar lol that obviously is going to be cut rolled up and i will more than likely have a nice alloy sump guard to cover it up.

as far as gettin it running, we have all my clocks engine, battery, oil lights etc working and all the relays bar the fuel pump relay seem to be working but we think we know whats wrong with it, i just need to give it a service, get my flywheel back and my clutch fitted and then it will be tested, and then a nice clean painted engine will follow :p

anyway more update to follow soon any feedback more than welcome

  10. cheers for the feedback people.

the car is now in the freshly finished garage and the whole interior is out, the engine is disconnected and im now waiting.. again... for and engine crain, so i can get the 4efe out and start trial fitting the new engine, i will get some desent pics soon and i should hopefully be taking pics along the way so people can get an idea of whats involved in a swap like this.

    Big T SR

cheers i no i luv black starlets too and the badge at the front was on it when i brought the car its an oval with TRD in it but i never liked it so i randomly had a toyota badge from a supra (borrowed from a scrapyard) in my bedroom so i put that on there instead, yeah the number plates i guess for MOT purposes they had to put legal ones on there and they just left the other ones underneath, and clearly mine are on just for show purposes anyway :p

    galliano

thanks i look forward to finishing it lol and as for the stone chip i was on a runway with a mate and his car happened to be a little bit quicker... o well it looks good

  11. right basically im putting a 4age in my 98 SR and the standard uk spec brakes were terrible before hand and with the extra weight of the new engine i was looking for something a bit more substantial

    so...

after browsing the site doing numerous searches the only real thing i can find is about the levin twinpot upgrade, which has a good fitting guide and pics, which as tempting as it seems is prooving to be kinda akward because finding a set of calipers is near on impossible

the other thing that got a mention was the celica twinpot swap but i cudnt find a fitting guide or any info on wether they actually fit or not!?!

so basically is ther any info on the celica brakes or does anyone no of another set up that might work, baring in mind of the added engine weight and the possibility of some hard use ie trackdays etc.

oh and if it requires any fabrication or machining thats fine i can sort that out

any info and links will be greatly appriciated

    cheers morgey

  12. hi cheers for the feedback guys and just another quick update

i had a run around my garden today and got a couple of pics (sorry about pic quality phone doesn't like twilight), to show where i stand more than anything.

well my car looks like this atm

    DSC01052.jpg

    DSC01044.jpg

I've had to keep it rolling as will need to move it into the still to be built garage,

    which, looks like this.

    DSC01054.jpg

and that nice looking corolla gti now looks, well to say the least

a little bit sorry for itself now,

    DSC01055.jpg

and a seek peek of my new engine :)

    DSC01059.jpg

Nice story mate lets see the Corrolla seats ;)

here ya go mate, not bad for 160kmiles imo, theyve got adj bucket, lumber suport and a raising base you can get really quite comfy and depending on how u set them it can realy change how you drive ;)
