  1. Budget build FTW!!

People forget these where cheap cars back in the day never intened for 10k++++ builds be good to see some normality in a starlet for a change (not that a TD04 GT can be called "normal" by any stretch of the imagination!)

Best of luck with it lad

  2. Hello folks as the title says I have been searching the net for good in depth books or websites dedicated to engine tuning and was wondering if the knowledgeable people here could point me in the right direction or recommend a book/website?

Im a complete noob when it comes to engine tuning so the more comprehensive the better!

Any help would be greatly appreciated :give_rose:

For anyone interested here are some recommended by WeeJohn and AdamB :) cheers lads!

    Hilier's for fundamentals

    More in depth/expensive!

Also those by David Vizard, Graham Bell, Tom Monroe have been recommended Ill get a few of the Hiliers and go through them over the winter!

  3. Fired a comment over earlier but that adds pretty ancient but worth a punt proving to be near on impossible :(

Lol I never even looked at the date!

Best of luck with the search mate I think it would be safe to say it wont be easy seems to be the least common of all the aftermarket kits!

  4. hmm thats pretty expensive.

i got 20 bulbs for around £5 and the ones i bought just go in the original "twist fit" holders.

will keep you posted when mine are fitted

    cheers for quick replys chris

I have been looking around for something similar can you send me a link please mate?

Is it possible to replace the Bulbs's behind the centre console i.e. the heater/AC controls mine are very faded and I would like to replace them if possible as they are very dull I have a feeling however these are soldered on..anybody every open the heater controls??

I have a spare heater control at home I think I will crack it open and take a look this evening

  5. If you are running all year round you should read about the cold start issues with E85 too. Mappable ecu will take care of this, but might be trial and error first couple of times until you get the map right ;-)

Will most definitely have a look at this thanks for the head up!

  6. I made a thread about this some time ago, but didn't get a lot answers. Check out for more info, but here's some major points:

You will get a poor mpg with E85, I think stock pump won't be suitable for ethanol, stock injectors will max out(you need ~30% richer mixture) and mappable ecu needed to get it run perfectly.

Thanks for the info it seems to be quite unpopular/not widely used I wonder is it the initial cost or the lack of places to buy reliably?

I done a search on this and over here in the UK chains have stopped supplying it. I would personally take a leaf out of their book and not bother using it, you would be better off getting some race fuel like VP or Methanol as its less likely to go out of fashion. You would still need to upgrade your fueling system though especially with meth which runs AFR's as rich as like 4:1.

This is very interesting Adam I will most definitely be keeping my eye on the market over here and see if sellers here are doing the same.

How practical is it to run methanol?Im not sure how easy or prohibitively expensive it is to find and run on daily basis same goes for race fuel.

Plans are moving forward and fuelling is most definitely an area I wont be disregarding and have every intention of dropping the fuel tank in the spring to be professionally cleaned then the usual upgrades will follow, it will be capable of running just about any fuel with some minor modifications!

You are right that it has higher octane rating and it burns colder, but ethanol(E85) also has less energy. So you will need 30% more ethanol(E85) to get the same amount of energy as with gasoline ->your mpg will decrease.

Also these motors are designed for gasoline, so compression ratios aren't high enough to get the full advantage of E85.

Thanks for that clarification Jay and your help!

I found this on the web and it has helped me understand it allot better

I definitely think the pro's outweigh the cons in my case as I was planning on upgrading/renewing the fuel system anyway but only if it continues to stay on the market, the only major negative is the corrosive element due to the moisture but I have been told by a specialist this can be almost completely eliminated by the use of catch tanks to draw the moisture and silicone hoses seem to be preferred for obvious reasons (he explained all of this allot better  )

Any more input be greatly appreciated lads if im being a complete idiot please dont hesitate to tell me :drinks:

  7. No slander towards Zisco what so ever. I think they're a fantastic company with some absolutely amazing products and they're a bunch of cracking people.

I'm just not entirely happy with how this has been handled really. Maybe it's just me expecting more, I don't know. I've never bought something like this before so forgive me if i'm wrong but I wouldn't know any different.

I dont think its unrealistic to expect a manufacturer of any component to provide relevant details on the installation and possible problems that can be encountered during said installation of their products having said that Zisco is not exactly a huge company and I would imagine they are very busy so getting time to release information such as this could be hard however I think that with components such as these (far from cheap and not exactly "bot on") it should be a priority to give the buyer as much information as possible

  8. I was under the impression that the air/fuel ratio would be completely different and seeing as it would require more E85 per injection to get the same amount of combustion a high flow fuel pump and larger injectors would be a necessity along with a fuel pressure regulator but I have never used it so I could be completely wrong would like to hear some more thoughts on this

I does seem quite expensive almost twice the price of standard petrol so would be curious to know how MPG etc is affected before I bite the bullet so to speak

  9. Hey guys and girls just curious as to whether there are many starlets mapped on E85 about the place and how does the car feel after the change id be very interested in hearing people pro's and cons on this as a petrol station near me sells it and I was considering going for it!

I have had a search around the net about the benefits on E85 and seems like a really good alternative to the standard crap we get over here especially when running more power the main disadvantage I can see is the fact it takes more E85 to make the same power as a smaller amount of petrol however I have heard people say there mileage per tank increased after the change anybody have any first hand experience or opinons on this?

Is it true I would require larger injectors, rrfpr and a fuel pump for the reason stated above? (more methanol is needed to be pumped to make the same power)

Id appreciate any help you could give me to swing my decision one way or another!

  10. Actually I had a thought about that, but didn't even google if it can be done or not. I'll have a look, thanks mate. :)

No worries I believe Sacha at WEPR has experience fitting these to customers cars in Malta using universal condensers, may be worth your while to pm him for sizes/specs etc im sure he would be willing to help and you should be able to find some more locally once you know what size you need etc happy hunting mate 8)

  11. I was going to leave the EFI pipe out but I had no choise as I wanted to use my apexi filter. I can't front mount it as I want to keep my AC.

Have you considered using a smaller condenser like for example out of a civic for your air con unit that way you could mount the relocated air filter in the more preferred position?

I have heard of the Japanese doing this but I havnt done much investigating nor have I seen any examples in the metal but maybe an interesting idea for you to try.

Lovely Glanza mate looks like a very clean example best of luck with it

  12. !!!!!!

A square / rectangular toggle switch??

There was one there, but I could've sworn it was for the aftermarket rear fog :unknw:

Dud - can you recall the model / price etc? I'll have a look if you're recommending it. I want a decent one anyway, remote start would be sweet too over the winter!

Are you asking for the alarm model number or the Relay?

The Alarm is an Autowatch 457rli I cant say how much it would cost as I got a whole bunch of other bits with it (customised central locking, aftermarket security locks all round like used on cigarette vans etc as well as few other bits and bobs) so best bet would be to ring around just remember it can be the best alarm in the world if it installed badly its more or less useless if a good thief gets there hands on your car!

Its a highly recommended alarm arguably one of the best in the world was developed by a South African company and has an excellent track record have a google of it there see if its for you definitely not as flashy as say a clifford etc but I hate them stupid fobs they give you with them anyway I always think if I lost my keys or I had to empty my pockets into a bowl Id rather have an understated fob with just a few buttons rather than the stupid LCD screened ones that are becoming more prevalent now!

  13. Edit: @DudFunk, that's interesting! Something I'll consider too, might be harder to trace if it's simply a relay fitted somewhere eh?

I put my turbo timer relay in behind the clocks nice neat job 8) but I have learned to respect to speedo cable that thing is a bitch to get back on!

I had a Cat 1 toad in mine when I bought it I hated it ripped it out and got an Autowatch 2 way immobilizing alarm with all the bells and whistles very happy with it the speaker siren and back-up siren is LOUD!!!

  14. Haven't read the ins an outs nor the ad but bear in mind some aftermarket alarm systems have inbuilt turbo timers

Yea really should have mentioned that in fact the "turbo timer" I put in my car is nothing more than a relay that holds the ignition power for a couple of seconds so could possibly be similar
