  1. Tightening Torques 4E-FE



    When I work on a vehicle I always tighten bolts up in 2 stages if there are more then 3 bolts to tighten.


    What ever the finishing Nm of torque is half it and do that first so for example if you have a rocker cover that the bolts tighten to 8Nm, tighten them to 4Nm first. After you do them to 4Nm up the torque to 8Nm and repeat the process.



    Main bearings Stage 1: 29 Nm


    Main bearings Stage 2: 58 Nm



    Big end bearings Stage 1: 20 Nm


    Big end bearings Stage 2: 40 Nm



    Valve Clearance (Inlet) = 0.15-0.25mm cold


    Valve Clearance (Exhaust) = 0.31-0.41mm cold


    Compression Pressure= 9.8-12.7 bar


    Oil Pressure= 2.6-3.6 bar @ 3000rpm


    Rad Cap= 0.75-1 bar


    Thermostat opens= 80-84 C



    Oil pump : 7 Nm


    Sump bolts : 8 Nm


    Sump drain bolt : 25 Nm



    Flywheel/driveplate : 90 Nm/88 Nm


    Clutch pressure plate : 19 Nm


    Crankshaft pulley/damper centre bolt : 155 Nm


    Camshaft sprocket/gear : 51 Nm


    Camshaft carrier/cap : 13 Nm


    Camshaft/rocker cover : 7 Nm



    Inlet manifold to cylinder head : 19 Nm


    Exhaust manifold to cylinder head : 48 Nm



    Spark plugs : 18 Nm


    Lambda sensor (Oxygen) : 44 Nm



    Chassis tightening torques


    Front hub : 216 Nm


    Steering track rod end : 47 Nm


    Brake caliper to carrier Front:


    -Removable carrier = 25 Nm


    -Integral carrier = 18 Nm.



    Brake caliper/carrier to hub Front : 88 Nm


    ABS sensor Front : 8 Nm


    ABS sensor Rear : 8 Nm


    Road wheels : 103 Nm (Use zig zag procedure)

  2. I painted my wheels to a very close match to rota grid bronze using a compressor i loved the result


    I used 3 coats of paint on all wheels

  3. so keep the wheels :) :) a tdo4 can be got cheap , also if your handy you can make an adaptor to fit the tdo4 :) :) keep things cheap as possible till you have funds to buy a wepr kit or the likes

    thats how i started in the begining bolted a tdo4 to stock everything 4efte then upgraded slowly 1 thing i did have was a wideband to keep an eye on things a cheepo """" exhaust gas temperature gauge """ is handy to have to there like 30quid

    Alright thanks for your input i think i will do that. I'm not amazing at fabrication, but a few friends I know are. Though I don't want to aim towards a cheap build for it want quality :thumbsup: I'm just gonna take it slow and not rush it. Thanks :D

  4. you can run 7 psi ( tdo4 ) on a stock 4efte anymore and feul adjustment is needed ( thats on a gtt ) some say on the v it feuls to 0.8 ????? just stick to 7 psi to be safe !!!

    think the 200 pound and a hair dryer for them wheels is ok ??

    The wheels are only 280 new. And tyres on top of that I really like the wheels tho and they would fit the ep91. But ik I would want a TD04 down the line. Hard decisions

    The ep91 i'm looking at is bone stock. If I was to get this TD04 on with a new manifold of course and full exhaust if need be, would I be able to run it safely if i upped the boost a little before it gets mapped?


    Or is it best to just leave boost alone throw on all the mods i'm planning then map it?

    I've also read that the fuel pump should be replaced and a 255lph Walbro fuel pump seems to be popular. If thats a necessity i'll get that done first of course.

    I've been offered 200 quid and a TD04 for my wheels off mx5.



    The ep91 i'm looking at is bone stock not a single little mod to it only about 63,000 miles on it. If I was to get this TD04 on with a new manifold of course and full exhaust if need be, would I be able to run it safely if i upped the boost a little before it gets mapped?

    no other cars worth mentioning till i came to the UK


    First Uk car was a 1.3 02 Mazda Demio best feature were the wheels I painted them properly using a compressor with Rota Grid Bronze paint

  8. Don't think any of the Colne lot are coming so it might not be worth setting up a meeting. Then again, if you're bringing other mates/cars, it could be a good idea.

    Yea Im hoping to bring quite a few friend/cars. So far I have a friend who wants to come in his Pulsar. Another who also has a forged mx5 (he's hoping to get it back together in time fingers crossed.) Also got a mk2 mx5 coming, and another mk1 mx5 (350z, wrx sent message to them awaiting reply.)
