  1. Raised the coilies up about an inch today just so I don’t smash the bumper up. I inspected the rust patch a bit closer because I was thinking about reshelling it, but it doesn’t look bad enough to give up on itD4B95FF9-C98C-4C84-9EEE-6BDD119788A6.thumb.jpeg.ce5824b6ef85c567e4d637c4fe947914.jpeg

Also think an alignment is due before I get new tyres lol A1C430A1-4708-4A60-9C63-A6AE23C2BE21.thumb.jpeg.d7a5cb05e59a098eb9981e5bea5c4627.jpeg5CE60833-F6BA-4959-A098-6F2157AEC456.thumb.jpeg.bb30b291369581d35968833efaf30f20.jpeg

In real terms its not a mega difference 5e over 4e.

There is 200cc extra to play with in the map, and that will help with the turbo.

One good mechanical difference is the 5e has thicker crank caps than a 4e, they are still cast though.

People used to say the 5e didn't rev as well as a 4e.

If you have one sitting it would be rude not to have it built.

Yeah well I don’t need to Rev it crazy high as I just want a fast road car, it won’t really be seeing the track either. Like you say it’d be rude not to while I have it just sat here

Think it depends on your intended hp goals. Costs should be similar to forge either engine.

The 5e has the potential for more power (1.5l vs 1.3l) or would make the same hp with less stress on the components. The longer stroke of the 5e should help torque also.

If I had the choice and the 4e was capable of the intended bhp goal I'd forge that and sell the 5e as they're very sought after at the moment.

If you want big hp or a less stressed engine go 5e.

Although I don't think I've heard anyone complain about their forged 5e build on this forum so far!

Yeah I’ll probs get the 5e done then as nobody like to travel to me to buy stuff because I live so far away from everyone and I do like the sound of better torque down low

absolutely a few active members on here still will never be as it once was but the lads who contribute have really helped me out with my build from mechanical advise to finding rare parts and just being really helpfull guys they all know who they are .......will look forward to updates if its the outer sills i know where you can get them but its his and miss with stock at the moment

Yeah it’s my outer sill, I bought mk3 fiesta sills because I was told that they would work the best as you can’t get glanza sills anymore

Yo. Hope you're all doing well.

I was having some issues selecting gears and so took the car to SMD over in Newhaven where they found it to be clutch release bearing related. That's now been resolved which is great as she was becoming a real bugger to drive around town.

Whilst there they also wired in my oil catch can and sorted some less than desirable wiring done by a previous owner...

I'm now all booked in to Redline Tuning in Essex for a new Unichip ecu. I wanted the Link ecu however on talking to the guy who works there realised that it would be around £4k for the Link after install, mapping and all where as the Unichip (which he's been racing his is own Starlet with for a while) is going to set me back not even a quarter of that, and still has the ability for multimapping, launch control etc.

With my new maps I'll be having the boost turned up, I'm currenly on wastegate pressure so will be interesting to see how she goes with some more welly. So long as its safe for the engine I'm happy. I'm currently on 230 and thinking about raising it to 270.

I seem to be collecting bits and not having a great deal of time to install them at the minute but here's what I have going on at the minute

New door handles - mine have about a cm's play in them (a pretty common thing so I've been told) so picked up a new set from ebay and after seeing Travstar's nice polished door handles I decided to go down the same route, currently in the process of sanding them down to a fine finish.

New boot lining - the original boot lining was in a rather sorry state so picked up some nice new thick carpet boot lining and some hard board.

Cluster screen - the one on there at the minute has a small crack in it (only noticeable from the passengers side but still...) so found GlanzaWyard (above) on ebay and bought his old one from an automatic. Great price on that, thanks mate!

Cluster lights - when doing the screen I will also be changing all the bulbs, I've bought both led and normal to see how I feel at the time.

Parcel shelf speakers - wire in the Pioneer 6x9's I bought back in January.

Rear lights - I just picked up some non facelift rear lights, the reflet lights on there atm look like they were previously restored but not to the best standard so after talking to Trav he suggested redoing them with some neoprene chord. Plan is to pop the 96 style lights in to give myself some time to do up the reflet lights properly.

Front light - one of the rubbers was missing from one of the headlights, managed to pick one of those up so shall be popping that on.

I should probably get back to work.

    Cheers all

Looking good! I’m currently running 230bhp at the moment and probs gonna go forged but let us know the difference between 230 and high 200’s when you get it mapped 👍

I also replaced my cluster lights with normal bulbs recently. I think the led lights are too bright and I’ve heard they can cause problems with the electrics

Couldn't agree more, welcome back. Looking forward to the updates.

Thanks, next update will be after welding and paint I think. Got to say my goodbyes to my savings account and make peace with being skint for a while lol

  7. Neglected the car for too long now so the plan is to throw some money at it. Got the livesport kit to go on (wings, skirts and spoiler). Sadly the sill needs welding up after being sat by the sea, next ok the list is wheels, brakes, tyres and some tidying up in the bay.

Hopefully by the end of next year it’ll have a forged lump, stand-alone ecu, COP and hybrid TD04

  8. One year later... meister coilovers installed, made a huge difference to the car, still feels like it understeers too much, I think and alignment is needed soon. I plan of getting a rear arb installed too. WEPR top mount manifold is on after my Chinese manifold completely 1206A8BC-A4D5-4E32-9685-7A7CF05DA9D6.thumb.jpeg.c7bfa08d262651b16b8f8fe2f847417c.jpeg

Also just ordered Livesport side skirts and wings from Fiskë which I can’t wait to get. And hopefully at some point I’ll find myself a Livesport front bumper and Varis bonnet… that’s the dream anyway. rattling coming from gearbox recently so I’ll have the box taken off and get the clutch checked out, maybe it’s come loose somehow.

The plan now is to get the car into some events, I’m thinking either track or hill climb but a forged lump will be needed for the abuse. AA928DBE-67C9-4A6E-8AAB-E905C2A7EF5F.thumb.jpeg.d4157ece1d4a1ec51fcbe7d38b0f2992.jpeg

As long as you know what you're doing ;)

Need anything let me know, machining wise, advice etc

I’ve been doing a lot of reading on it and it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time so I’m going to give it a go, thanks I’ll keep you in mind because I’ll be getting the machining done sometime next year

people keep talking about how 5e's dont like to rev...this is myth. you can rev to 8.5K rpm safely. in most cases 7.5K- 8k rpm is ample for most builds as most would use small frame turbos. if you plan to make over 275bhp...then it doesn't matter if you choose 4e/5e..you'd still need to forge for reliability...so, IF exceeding this power...by all means a forged 5e will be better than 4e any day...

Sounds like I’m going 5E then, and I suppose I’ll be needing a nice manifold for it ;)

made 324bhp 2wd on a local dyno with the prop removed and 302bhp on tuning developments dyno running 4wd but the mapping was never finished and there was still improvements which could have been made. If I remember later I will post the graphs if your interested.

Yeah that would be brilliant thanks, it’s would be nice to see the difference in the power curve

As soon as I let the clutch out for the first time on my 5e I knew it was the right choice, such a better drive. I ran a Vf35 at 1.5 bar and it was lag free just instant boost. If I was building another engine I wouldn't waste may time with a 4e. That's why I've got a spare 5e in the garage.

What sort of power were you making with that?
