Good to see a GT getting some TLC.

Looks great lad. Have to spray my Gt soon

Thanks lads, Really starting to appreciate the car now, been nearly 2 years since I last drove it and I’m really starting to miss it, can’t believe I almost sold it not long after having it 😕

Thanks mate, Im going to see how I get on with the standard ct9 for now but thinking about a hybrid ct9 setup or possibly even forging and going bigger turbo in the future.

I would ideally like to have the cars bodywork looked at and probably a full respray at some point down the line, although the paint is fairly decent overall there are a few areas that let the car down and it would make a big difference to have it sorted. Just been looking at yours and the work thats going in. Prep looks really good defenitely worth doing a thorough job to get it looking right at the end. Bodywork looks like real specialist stuff to me.

But apart from that im just going to carry on enjoying it, Its a lot of fun to drive even where its at now. Always wanted a turbo starlet so loving it at the minute :)

Yes this lad is into his jap cars but he loves the rare stuff so he’s actually interested in mine. Putting every bit of effort in, and hes not long been self employed so this car is going to be his  first big job start to finish that he can show off on his page so it needs to look 100% haha.

yes I enjoyed my gt when it was early days, even for 130 odd bhp it was such a hoot to drive, used to rinse any other car that was up to around 190-200 bhp and shocked a lot of other cars just by keeping with them! It had a 3” jap speed exhaust and KYB Shocks, on the clocks it used to pull over 135mph as well (private land)

    😉

if you’re going to daily it ct9 will probably be best, and most economical, I once got 207 motorway miles to £20 of fuel so they’re not bad at all, I was gonna use a td04 on my build but they run out of steam around 1.4 bar (300bhp). So went for a td05 for that bit of an extra push!

  3. So the lads been putting a shift in getting this car sanded back ready for paint, and being able to see what areas need work.

minor rust bubbles at the front of the bonnet, sanded back and primered.

Now the only part of the car I couldn’t finish my rust repair was passenger rear arch, as the inner lip had gone as well. With this lad having a panel beating background he knows basic metalwork/ fabrication. He also knows techniques to stop panels warping/ distorting when being welded as well which saves a lot filler afterwords.

Here’s the finished outcome, over the moon!

There we have it, fully welded & ready for paint!

  4. So I’ve found somewhere that has taken on the task of refurbing my advans, he also might take on the car itself to prep for paint. the lad is a self employed powdercoater/ sprayer who comes from a panel beating background. (ideal) Hes come to have a look at the car and see what it needs to doing and decide whether he wants to take it on.F2E00DF0-9EB3-4B20-978D-1E4AA6547629.jpeg.2724c3c7a00df4d9eb06871c88c798ac.jpeg

after confirming he will take on the starlet I got the car transported from my house to his unit which fortunately is about 0.8 mile away. He wants the whole car there as he’s going to get every panel bang on.

he’s recently repaired and fitted a C-west bumper off a civic that was in about 17 pieces, which now looks like a brand new bumper! Which makes me have a lot of faith as if he can do that, mine should be a breeze to get right.

car is now in his unit, and the prep work is underway ! All dints and dings being put right!

He’s even managed to pull a nasty dint out from the top of the A pillar which I never ever thought would come out from how deep it was!

  5. Also managed to pick up some Genuine ADVAN RG’s!

they do look a bit on the sorry side, but I’m also on the hunt to find someone that can refurbish these back to factory condition, these wheels are a massive pain due to having the blue lip and then the ‘advan racing’ stencilled in. So I’ll keep them as they are until the times right

(they weigh under 4.8kg per wheel!)

    9F37F2FE-8661-403B-B11B-1C778AFCEF98.thumb.jpeg.032eb3d83f6b51bce694e0b224e1f800.jpeg

cleaned up a little bit. :)8BDF0336-C42D-4123-AC73-CDBA7306A6A5.thumb.jpeg.e8d6bdba7eb39b2a7e0cb24e5cb4e48c.jpeg

managed to find a online store in the states that sell the original stencil and stickers for these wheels as long with a shed load of rare/cool stickers-vinyls-sunstrips and badges! Think I’m going to get a TRD emblem and a toms sun strip! Check out the site

    https://www.acromann.com/

  6. Now with the engine in its current state I’m pretty happy with it. So this can be put back aside and I now want to get this car absolutely mint. It will need a full respray regardless as some of the grinding dust has set into the paint and rusting all over.

But as well as a spray I want to get any ding and mark out, like I said I want this car proper mint and don’t want a half arsed job.

whilst looking for someone to take the car on I was also accumulating bits, managed to get a livesports spoiler from fiske, genuine toms sideskirts, and potentially a genuine rear livesports lip. All these are my favourite exterior panels for a GT. now the real dream would be these and a toms front bumper but that’s never going to happen and if one does come up I just can’t justify spending over £600 on one.

So to just finish the front off I got a custom made lip from a lad called a Zhi Vho Fiber on Facebook. And also got a cheap grill as I prefer a blank one and don’t want to butcher a stock one up, so here’s the car before paint and touch ups. (Spoiler has not arrived yet).

  7. So I’ve been a bit quiet, March time I was tidying up underneath and it just went all downhill from there on. Sill covers removed to find about 4% of the sills remaining, arch covers removed to find one arch mint and one arch on its last legs. Removed a tail light and then realised I could see into the boot lol.

I was debating scrapping the shell as it was just a massive pain and hours of labour was needed to get this car somewhere near mint again. But I gave it 1 attempt.

I spoke to some OG starlet gurus in hopes to find some knowledge on sills, turns out Ford KA sills fit with a bit of persuasion. So I got these welded on and my grandad being an ex plater made me some plates for the rear and I got it all welded up.

over the next few weeks I’d be lucky enough to come across a few bits I really wanted for my build although not exactly needed.

some ID1050 injectors and a race spec inlet manifold !

    E6284465-7B1F-467F-8C6E-4C01DB03262E.jpeg

then I managed to weld on the stays for the k20 coil on plug conversion for my rocker cover, and then welded the AN10 fittings on whilst I was at it

    A44F0920-A247-4908-958B-E5A1ABBF63C1.thumb.jpeg.232f2d6f7b16739af4aa16bdba695a31.jpeg

now to get the rocker cover sprayed, I wanted something cool but very different. So I opted for the Rare factory Nissan GTR R34 colour JW0, better known as Millennium Jade.

    47EF4357-1FEF-4770-A989-6F734B3D0554.thumb.jpeg.0234f6968afb6670bd69a317e3859cc0.jpeg

to say it only got 1 coat I really like the colour on this, I can imagine it’s not everyone’s taste but I definitely don’t think there’s another starlet with this colour cover! And the black components compliment it nicely in my opinion. Hence why I got black AN10 fittings and lines as seen in the pic above.

Hey jwhite, must feel good to know some history on the old gal. This will be an absolute monster when finished as i see all the right ingredients so far my friend.

This is the true definition of an 'in-house build'. Silly pun intended 🙄

    P.S - Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease don't cut the bumper. 😭😭

Mate it really does feel good actually,

I have taken the stock bumper off as I will not cut it under any circumstances, but I have bought one already cut which will be fitted depending on which cooler I run, will keep you all updated :)

Hi mate. I was reminiscing with a mate the other day and I did a google image search for starlet turbos and was shocked when one of the first pics that popped up was my old car, which led me here. I got the car imported from Japan in 2005 it was sourced by a guy in Bradford who imported cars for a living. I’d been looking for one of these for ages so I was buzzing when I finally got to pick it up and drive it the 200+ miles back to Suffolk. I had a little play with a Clio 182 on the way back but felt a bit of a tit when I hit the speed limiter at erm 71mph 😉

I think the car was on 56,000km at this point and it was totally standard, even had the warning flair in the passenger footwell. I got it back home and the very next day took it to a local motorsports place and had the clocks changed to mph and the speed limiter removed. I kept the car for 6 years and in all honesty I never really thrashed it... apart from the odd drag race around town. It’d embarrass most things off the lights and It never gave me any jip. In my time I lowered it 40mm, s/s exhaust, window tints, new rims a few little engine mods like an air filter, ht leads. Nothing major. Pretty sure I put a strut brace on it as well.

I sold the car to a guy in Cornwall he seemed as enthusiastic as I was when I first bought it. I never really wanted to sell it tbh but I needed the money for a deposit on a house and it wasn’t getting a great deal of use as I had a work van to potter about in. The guy I sold it to took all the standard parts with it... wheels, exhaust, shocks, warning flair. I think he intended on turning it back to oem.

I’ve definitely got pictures of it standard and from when I sold it. They’re on an old laptop that belongs to my ex but I reckon if I ask her nicely she’ll email them over 😬

Really good to see it’s still about though, a lot of fond memories in that car. Hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I and the countless bimbos that rode shotgun with me back in a time when things where much simpler did.

Mate I can’t tell you how much fun I had in it when it was standard, for 130hp it used to gap most things up to 200hp, i actually put it up for sale about a year ago and nobody bought and mate I can’t tell you how glad I am now I’ve kept it, I wish I kept it stock as it was such a nice yolk but I just wasn’t enjoying it anymore, it’s a real head turner and it seems everyone appreciates them, I got it on 100k which was a mix so probably about 85k miles with what you said regarding mileage, I bought it from chestershire on March 4th 2018 and I don’t intend on it going anywhere else anytime soon,

pics would be amazing but due to your situation I wouldn’t really worry haha. Will keep you all updated. :)

Ahh my old car 😍 I was the first uk owner of this little beast. Glad to see it’s still being well cared for. I might have some pictures of it somewhere from when it was totally standard. I owned it for 6 years and always kept it garaged, probably put no more than 10,000 miles on it in that time. Used to embarrass my old boss off the lights in his Integra type R 😊

Hi mate, Wow can’t believe I’ve jus read that, seemed nobody knew anything about this car so it’s nice to hear! Can you give me a bit of a rundown on the car as I know 0 history. When did it come in the country and has it always been standard etc? Any old pics I would love to see! Thanks for getting in touch.

really nice setup you got goin there. Keep us updated. Plans for it? I will be watching. 😎

Just a bit of a street weapon really, when it’s nice weather I’m always out in my car, spent all this summer in a diesel bmw which was nice and comfy, but just not me really, so looking forward to getting back in a 90’s hot hatch and just blasting it everywhere 😁

depending on how laggy it is once mapped I will probably do a few track days at cadwell and Blyton also!

You have to say the starlet gt looks so good and clean and with a uncut front bumper. Looking like a super build, cannot wait to see more updates

Thankyou mate, unfortunately it will be running a cut bumper when it’s done due to how the front mount intercooler fit, but I haven’t butchered mine up :), I was lucky enough to find another one in white already cut for a intercooler so it saved my bumper.

ran it for a year just pottering around and enjoying it, couldn’t believe how pokey it was for 130hp. Then took it off the road for winter and it was then I decided to build it, (forging etc.) managed to pick up a bare 5e block with some rare 5efhe cams!

managed to get a wepr top mount kit ordered from Sacha, found 2 knackered td04’s and sent them off to midland turbo to make 1 good one (hybrid billet etc)

(I will now be running a GReddy TD05 18g, see further down for info)

I was going to do the generic ‘td04, Forged, emanage blue’ build, which seems to be all starlets are nowadays. Not that i have a problem with this, just spending that bit extra can transform the car IMO. The more I got into it, and the more research I did, the more I’ve been changing parts, Ive now got my heart set on a link monsoon, possibly going Coil On Plug, Scrapped my old exhaust to have a true 3" turbo back to make good power. Just things like this makes a starlet stand out.

Bought PEC rods, Wiseco pistons from the states, and everything else needed for the engine to run the power I want,ACL bearings, arp bolts, Stage 4.5 Competition Clutch, ID-Workz 5E Lightened Conversion Flywheel, and a Fensport Lightweight Crank pulley.

Sent everything off to Stanwood engineering in Doncaster to get everything machined and assembled as well as the whole rotating assembly balanced, and the block notched to suit the pec rods.

    30-10-2019

Engine and all other parts have returned from the engine builders! Time to crack on, although im in no rush.

Now ive put a deposit on a genuine GReddy TD05-18g off Martin brown which made 404hp! Been recently rebuilt with and fiddled by turbo dynamics, billet wheel the lot, so the turbos an absolute belter!

    At the time of making this post,(08/11/19) this is where my car currently is;

    9-10th November 2019, Weekend update

So after getting my engine back last week Ive made some nice progress over the weekend,

Got the bottom end ready for the head to go on,

Fit headgasket, apply head, remove cams.

torque head on, torque cams and cam caps on.

Fit oil pump & Water pump, then apply cambelt.

Then after many attempts i got the engine timed up correctly.

Last but not least; THE SNAIL HAS ARRIVED!

Towards the end of the evening we had gotten all the hard stuff out the way (timing mainly), I thought had have a quick look at how the turbos going to sit, fair to say it looks amazing and it motivates me to finish it more and more so I can make some booooost! The last hurdle for the turbo now is the manifold flange doesnt fit, ( I did take this into account when buying but spoke to several exhaust companies who have confirmed they're able to change the flange on the manifold for me).

To say I had only a bottom end assembled just the other day, I feel like the motor is ready to go back in the car and the key turning, which would be nice but in reality I'm a long way off.

I still need; Exhaust (downpipe also), Engine mounts, Power steering blanking off, Inlet manifold cleaning and painting, AN Fittings welding to the rocker cover, External Wastegate, oil filter/oil cooler setup, a few intercooler pipes making. The list goes on haha, and the car only gets worked on at the weekend so...
