  1. Hi guys,

The other week my mate posted a link on my wall detailing a DJ competition at a Drum & Bass night that's offering slots to the top 4 contestants alongside a pretty sick line-up. In order to win, contestants had to create a facebook page and try to get as many likes on it as possible by the closing date on 8th of May.

I thought why not give it a go. So far I'm doing quite well in 2nd place, but competition is rising and there are some much more established DJ's competing. By the look of it I could be overtaken by the end of tonight.

I feel confident that (if I won) I could put on a decent set if given the opportunity! So basically I could really do with your help. If you think I deserve a chance, go on the page below and give me a like, or better still, share it with friends and see if they can help too. It would be a small dream come true to play on a night like that. Your support would mean a lot.

I've posted some of my recent mixes on the wall of the page if you want to have a listen: http://www.facebook....327315847334270

Here's a soundcloud link to my latest mix: http://soundcloud.co...ements-volume-2

    Many thanks,

    Alex

  2. Here's my latest offering, 30 minutes dedicated to two talented producers rising the ranks of the liquid Drum & Bass scene. I decided to turn the Key-Lock off for this one, I read it improves the sound quality somewhat. You may hear some small pitch changes here and there while beatmatching. Hope you enjoy it smile.png

  3. Gotta admit, Loving the winter mix mate!!! Keep it up fella :D

    Cheers pal :D

Nice mixes mate, I'm more into psytrance and filthy electro. Considerin thats the work of a few months, NICE. Nearly all my mates use decks and play at parties and stuff I just never started. Never say never though

What decks you use or you a CDJ man?

CDJ's are takin over big time lol. Save the 12" !!!

Thanks man, I'm using a Pioneer DDJ controller setup with Traktor Pro software on a Laptop atm. I've got it so that it simulates a CDJ setup as I'd like to eventually start doing some sets at venues when I'm ready. CDJs seem to be the worldwide standard now! I've not used a vinyl setup before but I'd love to try it. :) A lot of big names in Drum and Bass use time-coded vinyl set-ups linked up to a laptop and use Serato software, even the top man Andy C is using timecode decks with Traktor Scratch Live now, seems to be a good way forward. So far though, most club owners/promoters have told me to be prepared to use CDJs. Love a bit of Electro too!

  4. Hi Starlet people! I posted up something a couple weeks ago but I think it must have been lost amongst the database corruption so here goes.

I've been into Drum & Bass and other electronic music for some years now. I finally decided to start learning to DJ in September, since then I have made some mixes. If you're into Drum & Bass and Dubstep I'm confident you'lll enjoy them (especially while driving!), I am constantly looking for ways to improve with future mixes so your feedback would be great.

If you like what you hear, show me some support and give my Facebook page a like. http://www.facebook....223406631051302 Your support would mean a lot :)

  5. just out of general interest

what insurance like on an rx-7?

Pretty expensive if your under 21! I transfered mine over from the glanz (£900) for £450 while declaring mods etc. I can afford to insure almost anything now that I reached that magical 21. Even a Murcielago is a "reasonable" £2800 fc.

  6. Love FD's, Hate the RE Front..... Good luck with it though. I assume you have a daily driver? FD's can be quite thirsty on fuel, they do burn a little bit of oil so don't be worried. Unless its burning LOADS of course. Don't let the internet rumours of rebuilts etc scare you. They are very simple cars to live with if you just understand what the car is. Just don't flood it  Its a PAIN IN THE ARSE to get it started when that happens!!!

Its a love hate thing, when I first saw it I instantly loved it! This is my daily! I dont mind 25mpg on the motorway and 15 in town. I did some good reading on them and talked to a few owners who said the same things, they are easy enough to maintain and as long as you follow the rules they will be reliable. lol @ the flooding, I hope that never happens! I've read the proceedure to deflood and it doesnt look fun :)

As said on facebook I am coming to see this soon!!

Didnt take you long to get one mate and to be honest you picked a goon un :)

Im not a fan of the Porsche front end, always wondered why but it is special!!

So who owns MY glanz then :D

lol, YOUR glanz now belongs to one of my good mates in Bristol. We might meet up tomorrow for a little photoshoot but I feel a bit bad as Galliano bought my camera the other week so I need to actually give it to him soon!

  7. how much did that run you?

More than I planned to spend but it was well worth it and financially it made a lot of sense to buy a car already tuned and set up. I saw it for sale at 9k back in april and thought dayum, if only I had the cash. Then it came up for sale again for 8 just around the time the glanza was for sale! I got the price down nearer 7.5 region by picking out as many faults as I could but it was quite difficult.

The last owner was a steel works engineer, really nice chap but had little knowledge of mechanics (although he did shell out for some brand new tein super streets to be fitted for comfort), a lot of the important stuff had been taken care of by the first owner who had it for a few years from import and treated it like a queen:)

  8. Its been great with the starlet, I havent regretted pouring money and sweat into the Glanz. However I also havent regretted selling up as I now own an Rx7, a dream car of mine. This one's not your usual rex either, there are only 8 of its kind in the world, this is believed to be the only one in the uk, tuned by the infamous Re Amemiya in Japan. Still can't believe its mine!

  9. starlet owners are a harmless bunch!

the kid who has the white glanza is sound, spoke to him a few times and always gives us a wave , same with most of them to be honest

The lad with the white Glanza + Blue Lipped Gt3s is Dom, hes on here, doesnt post much (like me lol) but hes very sound. We've helped each other out before with starlet stuff. I was thinking of going up last sunday but was quite busy. We could get something goin this sunday even? I havent been out in the G for time and I may not have it much longer!

  10. Yes now 1.4 bar and 250hp please Pav I will pop down when its done :surrender:

lol, I need to sort my injectors out first. I have a set of 460cc ones but they just dont want to fire up! :( I may send them to be flowed but thats more money spent and Im planning to sell the car! I really feel like keeping it a little longer so I can get 250+ flowing but I think its time to move on to something bigger now I can afford it.

  11. Anything New? Errmm, hows about a Forged Engine. :o

Hey Ollie, heres some more yum to enjoy. :surrender:

I havent updated this thread for time! Uni and other commitments have made me very busy lately but now its the summer again and the Glanz deserves some sun and attention.

After the piston rings showed signs of failiure I thought it would be best to have a new engine built. I was a bit put off by the prospect of waiting 2-3 weeks for this to be done and started looking for a prebuilt engine solution. I found one by pure chance while on holiday in London with my mate (former owner of the Glanz). Ray (GT World) had decided to break his car with the help of Abbot, AzeB and Gaz and his nicely specced engine was available. They are a top bunch of guys and were very helpful. They took Rays engine out of his Gt and fitted it into mine in a matter of hours. These guys know what theyre doing! Abbot was very helpful in giving me info on the engine and its history and vouching for its builder Paul (Saab Technician).

    Heres the spec:

    Wiesco 74.5mm Low Compression Pistons

    Scat Forged Rods

    All new bearings

    Trd 0.6mm Metal Headgasket

Head Ported, Polished and Gas Flowed by Race Power.

In addition the valve guides were ground flush to aid air flow. This is not a cheap job. (between £500-1000 depending on machine shop and size of head)

    New Water Pump

    New Oil Pump

This spec is much like a ToyTuning spec which are rated to 400bhp with the right HG. Not that I would be insane enough to go to such limits. :(

The engine had covered 12,000 miles before going into mine so it runs superbly. I immediately noticed a difference in torque and pull through the rev range over the old engine. Its much quieter, smoother and more responsive to drive too. The Glanz feels like it has a new lease of life. :p

  12. Very nice write up Pav, looked like an awesome day out!

That LP-640 looks gorgeous. Did you get any vids?

Cheers dude, it certainly was, the 640 had such a nice interior, so did all of them to be honest! Unfortunately no vids, my mate was operating the camera and he forgot to get any footage, would love to hear that lambo screaming down the straight again. :) From inside it was like ohh my god im gonna spunk! :p

    Awsome!!!

Looked a wicked day I went with my mate on one of these days but he only drove an Evo8 and 106 rallye on the skid pan!!

Some top machinery caned there mate love them all suprised you didnt try the GTR though she how it compared to the real supercars :p

Hell yeah bro, I would have tried the Gtr but it had to go away for refueling at the time and the ferrari was just sitting there saying "drive me, drive me! Please, you know you want to". I was like :D:) ok.

  13. God i would love to rag the rag the nuts of them cars. Your a lucky boy mate !

The only thing which puts me off doing things like that are the instructors, I know they have to keep the cars safe and in working order for as long as possible, but seems a shame to have soo much power and in some cases "the R8" drive it not no where near its potential.

Some very nice pics though and im soo jelous you got to drive my fav supercar, the LP-640, looked like an awesome day ! :)

I totally feel your concern for that, I had it too before the day. It seems its pretty much down to luck. My recommendation, if you find an instructor that lets you really test the cars, stick with them. Problem is if you're only doing one car, its a bit of a lottery who goes out with you. For reference the guy who was a legend was called Toby and was quite a big guy. He was really good to talk to in general and worked with me to improve my driving pace and technique for the track.

    Nice write up and pics!

How much did it set you back to do this? I wudnt mind doing that at a track :)

Cheers man, I thought it would be a another good reference for these kind of days as GV1.3 on tgtt put one up a while ago which I found a good read. A day like this can set you back anything between £100 and £1000 depending on how many laps/cars you drive.

For myself, it probably ended somewhere around the £4-500 mark.

  14. Last weekend was one to remember, I met up with my best mate James who lives in London and we plus a few others trekked up to a track called Prestwold hall in Leicester where we had booked our cars!

First up I drove the Lamborghini LP-560. The first supercar I have ever driven. It was very very quick as you'd expect! My instructor (who was a little bossy at first) let me take it up to the redline in 4th on the straight which was a pretty awesome feeling. It screamed like the older gallardo but sounded a little more aggressive. When letting off and cruising it felt as quiet and sedate as an 09 golf, a very wierd feeling! Nothing like our starlets thats for sure.

I didnt drive it too well in all honesty and it was a little stressful trying to learn both a completely new track and car with the instructor commanding you left right and centre, but I started to get the hang of it on the last lap.

    DSCF1461.jpg

    DSCF1453.jpg

    DSCF1458.jpg

    DSCF1452.jpg

Good job I had booked the LP-640 too then! This is (or was) my all time favorite car. A different instructor took me out in this one who was a little more patient. He let me kane the car from the pit from 1st to 5th on the straight. ohh my god!! it was ferociously quick! The gearchanges on the sequential box where quite aggressive, delaying a bit before bolting you back in you seat as the clutch engaged, it was pretty distracting if Im honest! The noise it made was like the devil screaming, damn it sounded beautiful especially on the downchanges where it automatically blipped the throttle to allow a smoother transition into lower gears. Definately a vision and experience I will not forget. Nearly 170mph was had on the straight on one occasion.

    DSCF1490.jpg

    Looking focused :p

    DSCF1473.jpg

    DSCF1481.jpg

    DSCF1507.jpg

    DSCF1491.jpg

Looking like a shmuck afterwards! :)

Things were going so well from there I thought f*ck it lets see what else they have to drive here. After some thought and a tough decision between the Porsche GT3RS and the Ferrari F430 I choose the latter, the itallian stallion! lol

This car shocked me. It was by far the best car to drive out of the lot. It was a manual firstly which involved me a lot and felt a lot more familiar (as the glanz is manual, duh!). My instructor for this one was a legend. He let me rag the bollocks off the car which the other two didnt to the same level. I wasnt as restricted in the gears as the others (they dont like you going into lower gears i.e 2nd and 3rd). I had really got a feel for the track by this point. This car was so well balanced even with the traction control set to race mode. An absolute joy to drive with the clutch much easier to manage than my organic in the starlet and the gated shifter felt solid and positive. The engine screamed like a banshee, definately on a par with the 640 in terms of sound. Its steering was more precise and you could predict what the back end was doing nicely. What a car! My respect for ferrari is sealed now.

    DSCF1499.jpg

    DSCF1501.jpg

    DSCF1508.jpg

James and I also drove the Audi R8. We were both impressed by the car but the instructor was an old guy, some 94 f1 driver. He seemed to have lost his marbles somewhere along the way, telling each of us completely different ways of driving round the track. James got pretty annoyed with him as he grabbed the wheel and shouted "the cone the cone" indicating to head towards the cone. I appreciated the track instructions and that there was a certain way to drive the track as fast as possible but we would both have enjoyed this one much more if the instructor had let off a little and let us do our own thing. He also had an obsession for 6th gear which pretty much destroyed the powerband of the R8s V8 engine at 40-50 mph so pulling out of corners was dissapointing. If only he could have been like the Ferrari instructor, Ah well!

    DSCF1448.jpg

    DSCF1450.jpg

    DSCF1449.jpg

    Lecture! :)

    DSCF1439.jpg

My other mates Dubois and Theo both drove the Nissan Gtr and described it as "sick" "boom" and "f*ck fast" so Im pretty certain they were impressed. I think Theo will have one pretty soon to add to his collection lol.

    DSCF1422.jpg

    DSCF1432.jpg

Lastly we got a ride in the Radical. Powered by a suzuki hayabusa engine if im not mistaken and driving by a Radical test driver, this one was fast, really fast. The force of acceleration wasnt as apparent due to the lack of torque but it still went round the track much faster than any of the other cars. The cornering speeds where ludicrous!

    DSCF1459.jpg

When the day was over we all went back to London and got tipsy in Leicester Square. Happy days. :p

  15. Looks great man, the track looks a lot dryer in those pics too!

From what I could see from the settings, it looks like weston barely touched your avcr. :D I would be having words with them too if I was in your position.

Still, glad the boost is coming in much sooner now. :D

  16. Both ep91 4e's welded together to make an inline 2.6 litre "8e" mounted in the back powering the rear wheels, and the ep82 4e mounted in the front, both engines forged on TD-04s, with the rear engine running circa 350 bhp and the front running 250 hp equalling 600 AWHP Mayhem??????
