  1. Toby, Will a standard manifold cope with near 1 bar (14-15psi) boost pressure as long as the fueling is safe? I have a Jam Ecu previously setup on a CT9 hybrid and would just like to know how far I can take it before I get a M/S mani on in september.

After relocating my air filter to the front bumper, it's holding boost (on one of your actuators), untill revs reach about 5-6krpms, then it creeps slowly to 14psi, but very rarely goes over that. I'd like to get it boosting to a bar consistently, but am concerned whether the mani will cause issues with the engine etc (70k miles on the clock).

    Cheers,

    Alex

  2. Mine was a loooooong trip to my best mates house, about 400 metre round trip I think. It was tough..... :(

lol, seriously though, when him and I went to pick it up when he bought it last year, it was a fair trip, Taunton to Cardiff. But no where near as far as some of you guys have travelled! :p

The things we do for our Starlets eh? ;)

  3. yeah the clutch is a real work of art. if it performs as well as it looks it will be worth the ££££

well i fitted the front mounted filter, reset the ecu........and the car ran terrible! but i found out that was due to my decat almost hanging off and causing the ecu to fuel wrong.

now thats sorted it runs well, cant really see how well as the clutch keeps slipping so i should be able to let you know tommorrow when it all on.

Sounds good, I read about the problem you had, how untimely! Keep us posted mate.

  4. Wow, that clutch looks beautifully made! I guess it had better be for the price! Bet you can't wait to finally run the car without the clutch slipping. ;)

by the way I have a Jam Ecu now, very happy with it :( Got a front filter location kit coming on friday from toy tuning, how does yours perform mate?

    Alex

  5. Fitted it today! :( I decided to go out and get a decent socket set which helped a great deal.

Eventually, removing the a/c radiator was the thing that helped in the end, that allowed me access to it without fiddling with the powersteering pump. Bloody ac gas gave me a shock Rick! ;)

However I did find that it is very hard to adjust the actuator past the standard 10 psi mark (near the end of the thread). When I screw it in a few times, the pin simply won't reach the hole in the wastegate servo arm as its fully closed. Is there something I'm missing? Do I have to pull the actuator arm out to make it reach, it feels like it has a bit of give.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated as I plan to run about 13 psi for the time being.

    Cheers,

    Alex

  6. take the PAS pump off, thats WAY faster than taking the rad out.

there is 2 bolts holding the pump in. takes minutes to move it.

    spanner, hammer, job done.

Cheers for your help guys, will get on it. I have to say, taking the power steering pump off seems like the best idea as I dont then have to drain the damn rad.

Is the aux belt tensioner part of the ps pump? I guess I have to loosen it to get the belt off, then remove the two bolts holding the ps pump on? Are the ps bolts gonna be a pig to loosen too?

  7. Hi there,

I had a go at fitting my toy tuning acutator yesterday but had no luck getting the old one off.

It seems the two 12mm bolts holding it onto the turbo dont want to budge at all. Its pretty tricky getting to them with a ratchet as the powersteering pump is right next to it and the radiator gets slightly in the way too.

Are the bolts definately anticlockwise unscrewing or are they wierd clockwise ones. I started to round the lower one off when using a normal 12mm spanner at which point I stopped. I've sprayed them with lubricant too but the damn things are subborn. I think the problem is that I can't get a good enough leverage on the spanner/ratchet. :p

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Alex

  8. Very nice example mate

    Any plans for her??

Cheers mate, yeh definately, plenty of ideas going through my mind. I think I'm gonna go down the good old Hybrid route. Once I get my Jam Ecu tomorrow that will get the ball rolling. Fueling is the most important thing to sort first engine wise imo, and a Jam will hopefully be just the ticket to support future mods! Coilovers, new tyres, better discs and pads are a must too, just need the moolah lol Still cant believe I finally own a Glanza! :D

I just picked her up from South West Transmissions, she had a problem with the clutch and the rear input bearing, I discovered I had a Trd Sports Facing clutch in there, but part of the front plate had snapped off! So I had a standard one put in for the time being and the gearbox has been refurbed, will upgrade clutchy soon though, I bet it will start slipping before long. :p

Heres a pic of the Trd one when it came out:

Very nice love the 16" rota's, i think 16 suits the starlet, what profile are those tyres u using?

And what bulbs u have in your headlights, looks like a bluey color

Cheers shelly, means a lot coming from an owner of some real TE37s! :p The tyres are 45s I think (nankangs! :D ). Theyre ok in the dry but absolutely shit-scary in the wet! :D

As sparky said, they're 6k hids, however I dont have them any more as both the ballasts have failed! New set on the way as I cant live without them ;) .

You have an awesome GV by the way. B)

    mm, me likey

Cheers mate, do you live near/in Bristol perchance?

    Alex

  9. Hi there guys,

Heres my new car, I've had it a week now but its been in my life for a year and a half as it belonged to my best mate. I have been with it from the day we picked it up from where it had been imported. Since then I have learnt a fair bit about starlets, but mainly in the last 2 months I have been going research crazy! :D I am still learning though, but Im glad I found this forum, its been so helpful, particular thanks goes to Jones36, TC Ricky, Dave Burwash, Dane from SPS Bristol and everyone else who has helped me out with various things :D

Mods so far include (or ones that are going on shortly):

Im just getting started really, gonna concentrate on handling and engine mods from now on though :D .

    Engine:

    Blue-Flame Cat Back Exhaust

    Toy Tuning Actuator

    Jam Racing Ecu

    AutoGauges Boost Gauge

    TRD Quick-Shift Kit

    Japspeed Decat Pipe

    RX7 Topmount Intercooler

    Greddy Type S Blow-off Valve

    Handling:

    TRD Lowering Springs (I believe)

Anyway here it is at long last, I have always wanted one since I first went for a ride in one. :D

Not the best photo location I know but I haven't had a chance to take it anywhere yet really! :D

Any comments are more than welcome.

    Cheers,

    Alex

  10. What can I say mate, I absolutely love this car! I have just bought a Silver Glanza and just cant wait to drive it (its in the bodyshop for 2 weeks for a full respray). ;)

Watching this project develop is an inspiration, top job! :o

I feel like a bit of a bastard copycat though, as i have just bought a set of gun-metal grids, admittedly as a result of seeing photos of your car! ;) I was gonna go for some gold ones to be different but a mint second hand set came up for a price I couldnt pass up.

About the Jam Ecu, how much did you pay for yours and would you consider it worth every penny you paid for it? I am tempted by one of these over an e-manage as I don't plan on running over 1bar of boost really. From what I gather, its made a fair bit of difference with only a few accompanying mods. What do you think?

    Cheers and enjoy the car!

    Alex

  11. well first of all we used it for about 3 days non-stop constantly lol that isnt going to help but....i came to the conclusion of all the heat build up in the manifold and turbo out the engine, sort of sat in the restriction of the 3rd cylinder runner so sort of munched the thrid piston ring as it started to smoke the next couple of days...also secondaly, the turbo now has quite a bit of shaft play due to using the Bee*r for ages...

in conclusion...i dont think its a problem to use it if 1. you have a decent aftermarket manifold, and obviously no cat....and 2. use it in moderation, i.e everynow and then when you go to santapod or whatever, dont use it on the street every second like si did...and finnally once used, make sure you fully cool it down properly after use, and before you use it again...as massive heat, and then instand coolness can crack the turbo wheels...\

    Rob

Cheers mate, I thought as much. Was suprised to hear you were running a standard manifold at the time! If I do get one I'll be very carefull thats for sure, thanks for the info. :p

  12. its not on the GT anymore as it sort of pied the engine and turbo....and it has a proper standalone going in....originally bought it for the SR lol from envy with the trust exhaust so paid top dollar for it....you can get them for about 115-130 ish i think..

and oh yes...rattle job, ive been to see marks car to much :p

Nice Ep82 mate, will look mint when the paints finished!

About the Bee-R, when you say it pied the engine/turbo what exactly do you mean? I am thinking of buying one of these jobbies for my Glanza V. Is it safe to use? I wouldn't want to cause any damage to the engine or turbo but I like the idea of launch control/antilag and have seen one for sale, very tempted. Any help would be appreciated mate. Good luck with finishing the paint off. :p

  13. No they dont thank god"!!!

Nice looking V man, theres plenty of options tuning wise and styling although that one looks tidy with the optional lip etc ;)

Cheers mate, I think I have a good idea of what to sort out first. And Hks Actuator and FPR will be the first engine mods for me. Otherwise I think Im gonna look into getting some sort of respray done to make it like new again and get some nice wheels.

I cant decide which Rotas will look the best, they are all so nice! Lightweight too.....Grids?.....Gr8s?.....Slipstreams?..Not sure yet :) lol

  14. no, lets hope he DOESN'T. massive typo there idrees, you nub.

also, if you put lexus lights on it i'll stab you - i'm only up the road, so trust me, i'll hunt you down. and you wont get away. mwahahahaha.

    lexarse lights fur de loss.

lol, I doubt you'll need to worry about that mate. Chav lights are far from my mind, unless my free stabbing comes with a lynching and burning at the stake in which case Ill be hunting a set down!

Seriously though, Where abouts are you from mate? How far away is up the road? I need to know how long I will have from the time you see the thread "chek out me new blingin lights" to the time your knife comes into contact with me! lol

  15. Welcome along mate, nice looking Glanza there.

Lets hope you go looking for Lexus looking lights for this one!

lol, lexus lights? On a Toyota (who make Lexus cars)? You must be joking!

I quite like the style of ones you have mate, they look smart. What variant are they?

    Cheers,

    Alex

  16. Well, it looks like my 25 is sold now, its pending full payment atm.

Here are a few pics of my future beasty I have lined up. Its got a few things to sort out i.e the front bumper and possibly the passenger door need a respray/repair due to paint defects/flaking, but other than that its pretty mint.

The owner (my best mate) insured me on it for a few days and let me take it out to see what its like. I must admit its pretty awesome! Its just so satisfying to drive and so sweet feeling the acceleration, while feeling safe and well grounded on the road. Put a huge smile on my face and its completely standard apart from a Cat-Back exhaust, Hks SS Bov and Trd Lowering springs. :D

I have many plans running through my mind for it, Im really not sure quite where to start or where best to put the money into it initially. I should have a good £2.5-3k to spend on it straight away and possibly a thousand more in september. I am trying to decide whether to concentrate on a specific area of the car i.e styling, handling or engine mods. I may do a combination of all three but I need to tread carefully I think, its already a very fast car relatively speaking so radical engine mods may not be needed so soon. I do want to prepare it for future engine mods though (so I imagine an fcd. rrfpr, ebc and uprated actuator would be a good start). I have always wanted a Greddy Type S Bov as they sound sexual but they rare as rocking horse poo apparently as they dont manufacture them anymore :D I think a fellow forum member is helping me out with that one though.

I do have a question about bov mounting mind. If I buy an FMIC in the future, will it need to have a custom flange welded onto it to accept the new dump valve? Are they really that easy to fit yourself? Is there a guide I could have a gander at perhaps.

Also, Is there anyone here that knows a good deal about boost creep and getting the fueling correct (avoiding leaning out). This is something that I have been pondering over for a while as It seems very important to get it right when adding breathing mods.

Any input/pointers in terms of modding and improvements would be much appreciated. :p

  17. Cheers mate,

I think I've found a suitable one. It belongs to my best mate. He only decided to sell it recently and he wants a fair price for it. He's taken good care of it too (regular and thorough servicing etc) so I think Im taking the plunge at the end of next month. I've had some luck with getting a good quote too so all is going well so far. :(

  18. Hi, I'm Alex, 19, from Taunton and at UWE in Bristol.

This is my current car which will be for sale soon to make way for a Glanza!

Will keep you posted in the weeks to come!

    Cheers,

    Alex
