  1. ill vouch for that its not all bout looks, i couldnt deal with how hard coillies are on standard roads anymore

Totally agree with you there mate. Yes it looks sweet having it nice and low. But the ride has suffered badly, they werent exactly soft before! I thought the roads in Bristol werent too bad untill I put these on. Now you notice how shite british roads really are!

I'll give it some thought but I may just go back to my standard shocks and Trd springs and get some whiteline anti roll/lift products on the go. I've heard these make such a difference without sacrificing the ride quality.

Having said this, these cuscos are simply insane round corners, it reminds me of was my mates caterham seven, sticks to the bends no matter what!

  2. That looks awesome, loving the front end!!

Cheers mate, I was loving it too untill I bumped into a rather large curb the other day . The splitter was made from fibreglass so is now pretty much unrepairable, cracked and split in multiple places  . When I have the time and funds I will get a new one made and painted up.

  3. nice mods man, good work indeed, engine bay needs a bit of a clean tho

    u selling the ecu?

Thanks mate, I agree it defo needs a good clean. I gave it a go a while back but theres some real stubborn dirt in there!

The Jam ecu was sold a few weeks back now.

  4. It's been sometime since I updated my cars thread!

To say a fair bit has changed would be putting it lightly, I have never spent so much money in the space of 3 months in my life! lol

Ok so here goes. New mods to date include:

Toy Tuning Air Filter Relocation kit. Good mod, noticable gains from it straight away, but the dreaded boost creeep! Luckily my Jam ecu was there to fuel it as it wasnt even breaching 14psi. I did think I could really do with a hybrid though, I thought maybe next year perhaps  .

Indiglo Dials: Courtesy of Mr. Burwash. They look gorgeous, once you see them you need them. lol I'll try an get a pic of them later.

SPS Mild Steel Manifold from Dane: My review of this is on TGTT. Superb Manifold, well designed, I cant see it cracking for a loooong time, if ever. Gave much much better low end torque and power through the revs. More on this below.

Then, shock horror, my intake turbo seals went pop! :o *cough*excuse for a hybrid*cough*

So, Turbo Daves Hybrid CT9 Turbo to the rescue, Go Dave! Will get some pics up of it when I can, but its much like a Toy Tuning Hybrid so look at one of those. lol Mucho happy with it, Daves service was brilliant. He built up an excellent hybrid and fitted everything for such a good price. This was the only job on the glanz so far that I wasn't confident tackling on my own. Dave however loves working on starlets and this to him was a breeze, we hit a couple of the usual snags when fitting it but we quickly sorted them. The performance gains were well worth the money plus no more boost creep. My new mani and Decat were installed together with the hybrid too. This as you can imagine made the Glanza somewhat different to drive.

I then decided, for the sake of better handling and overall performance to refurb my old 15s and sell on my 16" Inovit/Rota thingys. The job took me about a week and cost about £40. This was my first ever attempt at refurbing some wheels and they werent the easiest shape to do. I think they turned out pretty well but I could defo improve them. I may have another go at them in a different colour if I get bored.

I went off the gold strips very quickly, so off they came!

HDI Front Mount Intercooler Kit again from Dane! I was very impressed with the quality, fit and performance gains of this kit. Made a massive improvement to power and torque delivery! I am currently running this setup on 12psi and the standard ecu and it still pulls like a train! One of the best mods I've done as it improved the look of the car as well as the performance. Top service from Dane as usual :D

Cusco Zero 2 Coilovers with Cusco Topmounts. Holy cow they are good! I literally just got them installed this weekend, so further height and damping adjustments are needed untill I'm happy, then I'll be off to get the camber, castor, toe etc set up properly as its naturally all over the shop after the coilys. Canni wait!

My Jam Ecu is now gone, I've decided to go back to standard management on 0.8bar untill I have fully addressed and satisfied the handling and braking on the car. Then I will go Emanage or Standalone with a good tuner and head for the 200 mark. Tbh, I'm pretty impressed with how much power its putting out currently, its more than enough for now. :D

Overall, the Glanz has had a fair share of time, money and effort put into it these last few months, I've put more into it so far than I did in a year on my previous car, but its all been worth it.

Again much thanks goes to this forum and its traders/members for all of its wonderful wisdom and techy knowledge that allowed me to make decisions and do almost all the mods so far by myself instead of relying on a garage to do it for me.

Will keep you posted and try to get more pics of developments as my voyage continues! lol

    Starlets are sooooo fun! :D

    Cheers,

    Alex

  5. I have also considered the HDI intercooler.

    Few questions:

Do the pipes come with the kit?

Where can i purchase the kits from?

Also what do you guys mean when you say by keeping the stock recirc bov?

As im running a HKS dump valve will i require anything external to the kit?

Yep, all pipes joiners and clamps come with the kit, everything needed to install it!

You can get the kits from Dane aka Starlet Part Shop on the TGTT forum.

The kit relocates the blow off valve vent tube from the pipe coming off the turbo. It is now placed up near the throttle body which improves bov response.

If you have an HKS bov, you will not need to worry about the stock recirc as I presume it will have been removed, you will simply move the hks dumpy to its new position which may involve getting a new silcone reducer pipe made as the HDI bov vent has a 30mm diameter iirc (stock is 19mm).

Here are some pics to help you with you're decision!

  6. If you want a straight forward (if a little mundane) woosh, Blitz SS bov.

If you want a high pitched squeak, HKS SSQV.

They sound almost the same inside the car, only slightly muffled as you would expect. They should sound pretty much the same on all cars, its how they've been adjusted via the spring screw that determinds how they sound. Running more boost, makes the dump more violent and therefore louder, the spring will need to be adjusted accordingly to produce a certain sound. 12psi on my Greddy Type S sounds pretty loud and gives off a nice squeek. My Blitz SS was pretty straight forward, the woosh became louder at higher boost, but the note didnt change.

Alot of people like the HKS SSQV as it sounds different to most other bovs. I'm tempted to get one myself even though I love my Greddy one. Either way, both are decent bovs so you cant really go wrong. Make sure you buy a genuine one though not a cheap copy as they dont sound or work as well as the real deal.

    Hope that helps mate.

  7. thats some good info there, cheers gents.

well its a tossup between the hdi and the autobahn, as i want to keep the stock recirc bov, so the autobahn seems to make sense, but after seeing fishy's one he bought i was really not that impressed. thats why im leaning towards getting the hdi, even if they are a little large.

I was just in the middle of making this choice a week ago, Autobahn or HDI. Tbh the only thing that swayed me towards the autobahn kit that there are identical copies for sale on ebay for £215 delivered so I was tempted out of impatience lol. I also wasn't worried about the stock bov position so that wasnt an issue. Prices aside though, between the two it would be HDi no question.

I think the autobahn piping route is nonsensicle (going right over the hot manifold past the hot cat and radiator/fan cant be great for intake temps!) and it contains multiple sharp bends which doesnt help airflow. The core it self looks large too (quite tall, meaning a lot of the core is behind the bumper and away from direct airflow) as its tall and will also requre cutting of the bumper as the Hdi one does.

If you didn't have to worry about the stock bov, I think the choice would be easier to make for you. ;)

  8. Just ordered one of these last night from Dane. Can't wait to get it fitted! ;)

I took a look at Danes kit hes just been sent, the quality and design of the core looks superb. It may look big, but Its not very tall (more of an elongated oblong shape) which may explain its ability to flow gases efficiently, leading to minimal lag. The piping route, looks good too and the clamps aren't cheap ones that pop off like some do. For the money, I reckon theyre pretty hard to beat Imo.

As for the bumper fitting, I think its gonna be tough to avoid trimming the bumper when you install any fmic, By the looks of it (and from conversations with kierz), removing A/C helps a fair bit in this process, which is good for me as I binned it long ago!

  9. If you're after a Glanza Rotor Arm I've got a brand new one mate, as I was stupid and assumed they were the same as the UK spec, but they aren't.

Hi mate, Do you have a dizzy cap too? How much do you want for the Rotor? I can get both the cap and the rotor for £30 from ebay, I just wanted them today which looks unlikely now as I doubt halfords will stock a glanza cap and rotor!

  10. hope so, i want it sounding a bit meatier as well and louder the current exhaust is very very quiet unless your on the throttle also its stopping some flamage from getting through! <_<

I know how you feel mate, I have a Decat pipe begging to be fitted, but I know if I do it will boost-creep too much!

  11. oops forgot to add those,

will be getting a replacement mani and im going to try and get a custom straight through pipe made from that to the back box to replace the LegalisR exhaust :D

Wicked, its gonna be sweet then :D

    I want a mani <_< lol

  12. If anyone has heard of Gunk products, they are great for engine and parts degreasing. I bought a spray version from halfords a while back, did a fine job on my previous cars engine bay!

That Citrus degreaser looks good too Rick, will give that a go on the Glanz as my Gunk is out lol

  13. Nice pics mate, looks like you had an awesome time! Aiya Napa is a fun place to be. What resort did you stay at out of interest?

As for the Glanzas, good spotting! You managed to find loads. I only saw a few Gs when I visited my Dad there a few weeks ago. Plenty of GTs though!

Heres one of them not to far from Napa actually:

Thats my cypriot brother Kostas in the background lol

  14. lol.. u guys couldnt have read my post about me losing my license all those years ago.. 8 Years infact.. Had 9 points so had license revoked under the new drivers act but have been told by the DVLA when i get my full license again it will be dated from the time i first passed my test. My license is clean and i have nothing to declare to insurance companies as it is over 5 years ago. Im 26 in october and when the insurance ask me for the date i passed my test it will be on my license saying sometime in 2000 :) .. nothing to worry about there chaps..

And speed is fine, ive been driving my gf's lupo gti recently (legally of course :) ) and thats a nippy lil car so im sure i can handle all the glanza can throw at me..

Cheers for your concerns tho :)

Ah yes I remember reading a thread a while ago about that, totally slipped my mind! Sounds like you'll be more than ready for it then mate. Let us know how you get on with it :)

  15. But then what does the S stand for in Glanza S? ^^

    Glanza Slow? :)

most likely, its got an N/A engine..

lol, It cant be that bad!

Some good replies people. I read about that knickname "the flyer" somewhere. Was just wondering if Glanza literally meant Flyer.

  16. Hi guys and gals,

A lady friend of mine asked me the other day "what does Glanza mean?", to which I replied, I don't know, probably sausages.

It made me think is there an actual meaning to the word or is it some clever model marketing speil that some witty Jap came up with when the Glanza was on the drawing board at Toyota? Is it a translation of a Japanese word perhaps? :)

    Your thoughts please. :)

  17. yea its off ebay.. hes removing it off the for me later.. I told him i had £3000 and he knocked it down from the buy it now of £3600 :) .. so happy with that..

Yea i thought id be ok aslong as i made quite clear that it was an import turbo.. so hopefully that should be fine.. Theory test 2moro so wish me luck :)

So this is gonna be your first car? If so, Dayum! Take your time getting used to it mate, they're not slow lol

Good luck with the theory mate :)
