    question:

Can you tell me please what did you do back in the day with the fuel filter (as the brace hits the top of it when I try to fit my one) - bent the bracket or just rotated the filter and left it hanging on just one bolt?

    Thanks !

  2. Thanks Morgey!

I am aware of panhard rod issue and it is on the list... but no funds for it yet..;(

Lowering won't be on coilovers only springs so she will go down only 30mm probably...

I've read here that anything up to 40mm should be fine without adjusting... (?)

A'propos springs - that's my problem at the moment:

    THANKS FOR YOUR PHOTO!!

Your set up is similar so i that way that you brough both tracks to the same width as rear spacers are fatter 5mm then front ones...

So have you noticed anything in relation to driveability?

Maybe I should check with some tracking specialist?

Your alloys must have different ET as I don't have that much space!

By the way: the stock suspension is so ridiculously high! Looks so bad...

    Rear:

    my_spa17.jpg

How much they'll go inside at the top I wonder after lowering on springs...hmm...

  4. I know this matter was commented good few times already - I've spent some time trying to catch all the info from different threads…
… but I am still not 100% sure about few related things (I am kind of newbie and not a mechanic either…) and with your help lads I just would like to summarise it as I just purchased the tubular inlet from 1998 E11 Corolla 1.3 4EFE (for €10!!!) and I want to fit it into my 1998 EP91 Irish Starlet.

I think it would be great for all of us ordinary N/A people to have this info in one thread!

    So:

The 2nd Gen 4EFE Mani is the rectangular shape which is currently in my N/A EP91 Starlet:
    my_sta10.jpg

The 3rd Gen 4EFE Mani is the tubular shape (looks like an octopus;) and can be found in E11 Corolla 1.3 (Is it also mounted in Jap N/A starlets like Reflet, Soleil? I know it’s not in Glanza S…)
    I bought this:
    tubula10.jpg
    tubula11.jpg

    The most important questions are:

    1. The swap of the intake manifold between 2nd and 3rd Gen 4E-FE is just straight forward replacement - correct? (all the hoses, cables etc stay where they are? The existing bracket holding the inlet stays and fits ok?)

    2. What is the inside diameter of that intake - will it fit my existing standard throttle body??? (is it 45mm?)

    3. If I change the Mani only do I still get better airflow? Is it worth investing in 50mm throttle body and what car is it from? (do I have to port the mani then?)

    4. Do I have to change the ECU (after changing Mani only) or just overnight reset would do?

    5. Would it work better If I got the 100bhp 4EFE jap ECU (Soleil but not Glanza S or jap EP82/85 only?) - is it plug and play and is it safe and does it benefit in any power gain in Irish 4EFE?!? Does it have to be mapped for Irish fuel?

    6. What is the most advantageous set up for this tubular inlet?

    7. After fitting this tubular inlet only - Is there anything I MUST do?

Thank you in advance for all the help and comments!!! Cheers!

  5. Hello Lads, I just want to know what are your thoughts of having different size wheel spacers between axles.

I mean the track width at the back is always narrower then at the front in ANY car so I suppose it must be scientifically justifed.

But if I put 15mm spacers in front and 20mm on the back (this is what my measurements tell me to make my ET 35 wheels look flush with body) it will make both track widths identical as Toyota Starlet EP91 has 1400mm track at front and 1395mm at the back...

Would it affect its driveability / steering?

Other thing is that the car is not lowered yet - should I wait for springs first and measure again AFTER lowering as camber will change or it won't be significant?

    Many Thanks in advance!!!

  6. Hello Lads

I just need to ask has anyone had any experience with FK Automotove Lowering Springs for Toyota Starlet P9 part number FKTY050.

I bought them from amazon (really cheap) and there's no way you could fit them!

I measured them against the OEM springs (see attached photos - FRONT SPRING) and they are 170mm in diameter... The OEM springs are 140mm diameter! WTF?

    OEM spring (front):
    oem_sp11.jpg

    FK spring:
    wrong_10.jpg

    OEM vs FK:
    wrong_13.jpg

    code FKS233VA visible:
    wrong_12.jpg

The FK springs have codes FKS233VA (front) and FKS233HA (rear) printed on them (the box has the correct part number FKTY050!)
The manufacturer is not able to tell me is it correct code either what is the car model they are for.

Amazon sent a replacement but cancelled after telling me that other FKTY050 springs in their warehouse are also 170mm in diameter!

I want to buy directly from FK website but I'm just afraid that they'll send me the same huge springs again..

Anyone has/had them? Any photos with this code printed on them?

    Thanks in advance!!!

  7. Quick question for ye guys as I cannot find any thread for this

I just have noticed recently that my EP91's front brake disc/caliper DUST COVERS are partially corroded.

(It was actually a small surprise for me as the rest of the car is completely rust free as it's kept in my garage... well that cover is made from really thin sheet of metal but still...;-()

They're also known as splash guards? (Toyota Part Number 47781-10060 & 47782-10060)

My question is: IS THERE ANY REPLACEMENT available out there on the market?

I was told that this part is ''dealer only'' (€25+VAT each...) but maybe someone knows something...

    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

  8. Thanks Lads!

I don't think it's good either as while I was removing it (not fully done yet!) I had piles of coal-like powder coming out of it!

Of course that was my thinkin as well (about the noise and cops) but I couldn't pull it, it's so stuck...

I even tried to wrap it over a bent steel bar attached to my drill hammer but no success yet...

I wonder how big is the difference in noise level... My one is not fitted yet...

Any HKS Super Drager owner's response please?

  9. Hello
Excuse me lads for my ignorance in this matter but I do not have much experience with aftermarket exhausts and I need yer expertise:

Do the mufflers ever come with a factory fitted wire /wire-mesh stuck into the box?!?

I know that someone could put it there to quieten it but I was trying to remove it and it's very well attached there inside (close to the back wall/pipe and it's loads of it!) with some metal straps...

So the question is: maybe that should actually be there?

The specific back box I have recently purchased is an HKS Super Drager from Glanza as seen below:

    20150315.jpg
    looks decent doesn't it?
    20150316.jpg

    Now, the wire mesh!!!:

    20150313.jpg
    20150317.jpg
So please if anyone can look into their HKS Super Drager back box and tell me is there a wire too?!?

Is it not disturbing the free-flow or it is not significant at all?

    Thanks!!!

  10. Thanks a million everyone for such a warm welcome!

I do want to keep her clean and tidy, the interior is also almost as new!

But to be honest I couldn't resist and I had to go for some basic stuff already (but as starletmadyo adviced it's all easily changable):

    - alloys + TOYO Proxes T1R Tires

    - clear indicators & repeaters

    - Kayaba shocks

    - A'PEXi intake kit:
    my_sta10.jpg

    starle10.jpg

    The plan is:

    - to lower and stiffen her a little bit (ARB, strut brace, springs, spacers, lateral rod?)
(I actually have purchased a TRD ARB yesterday:))) need polybushings thou'...

    - back box (HKS Super Drager already purchased but waiting to be fitted):
    hks_su10.jpg

    - rear TTE spoiler from SR (not big Glanza type!) - also have one already waiting for red painting...
    my_tte13.jpg

Most of these are only cosmetics/optical so would be easy to remove again just in case some day someone is paying big bucks for non-modified genuine starlet....Wink)

    Any ideas/advice/comments - most welcome!!!

    Cheers!!

Question for admin (I'm kinda new to this...) - should I move this thread at this stage if I want to post more info about further progress or should I start a fresh new one in other section?
    Thanks!!!

  11. Hello everyone!
    Let me introduce myself.
I live in Ireland (Galway) and I am a very proud owner of Toyota Starlet!

I owned '91 EP81 before and there was few other Toyotas as well:

    - '93 Jap Imp Corolla SE Ltd

    - Then it was '99 JDM Estima Lucida Eluceo (AWD)

    - Also a Landcruiser

    - Then, a Mazda 6 (sorry;) but ALSO a '98 EP91 Starlet which I bought initially for my wife (nice excuse isn't it?icon_wink.gif

It is just a standard Irish Starlet... but how adorable!
I'm a 2nd owner after some matronly lady from Galway hence 40k mileage only when bought 5 years ago with FSH and all the stamps etc (63k now...).

    The dilemma is:
Keep it genuine 'as is' untill she becomes a youngtimer/vintage or should I go for some tunning?

    Thanks!
