  1. It seems difficult to drive a  ep82 Ecu for a twin coil DIS. Some has wired with the EMU to do this tip,and it is better to  take a standalone ecu to do that...

My friend has done this conversion with a Fueltech Ecu.

With you 5efe Head, you will not be able to add a distributor .Take a 4efe or 4efte head with your 5efe botom end and you will be able to fit your harness and distributor. If you can't; take a standalone ecu

is oil on all the plugs?

yeah, may be get a compression test done, it will give your some indication of the pistons, pistons rings, headgasket health on each cylinder

oil seems to be reaching the cylinders somehow and is making it to the combustion cycle---this can also come from the valve stem seals leaking, but unlikely to be leaking in all 4 cylinders

    Totaly agree...

  3. he takes a lot of time to understand this , he wants to go too fast ( i can understand that ) ... he's now understanding that  tuning is not only putting afr on table , but a kind of reliability as our fuel can vary from 91 to 97 ron

  4. Wouldn't it just not work at all if my ECU earth was shit? I'll check the one for the injectors, Thanks for that.

The wiring for my coolant sensors are a joke, the green one just has 1 single wire from it and that is cut and the other one with the spade on it (Think it's for the gauge on the dash?) Doesn't really work. Saying that they were like that before the car started cutting out. And by TPS do you mean the Throttle Position Sensor? My car doesn't have a TPS it's just a cable. Or have I missed something there? Thanks!

Edit: Car got me to work this morning without a problem. and got me 98% of the way home until i nailed up my hill and it cut out once i pressed the clutch at the top of the hill, Took the key out and left it for about 5 seconds and it fired back up. Back down the road after a turn around and again i press the clutch to reverse onto my drive and it died again but fired right back up. Seems the cutting out happens more often when I'm either stopped at traffic lights or when i come off and press the clutch.

  5. got a spare 5efhte block sitting around so thinking about my next upgrade.

ive searched high and low and cannot find a 'high compression' forge piston, dos anyone know if this exists?

alternatively whats the best budget forge kit?

ive seen TD, RT and SV do kits but im wandering if i were to source each part individually would there be a saving to b made?

also could i push a bigger piston onto the 5efhte rod avoiding the need for using a forged rod?

besides the forge stuff i basically want the rest to be genuine toyota parts, has anyone found a 'camskill' replacement, they were best price for bits until they stopped stocking

    YEs

it was one of my setup and i bought directly from "momentum motorsport Uk" on ebay .

  6. Yes i tried the emb and there is a big difference when tuning a 4efte with EMB

x you cannot remove fuel, you can only add fuel by the INJ harness , to REMOVE FUEL you must go to the Airflow table ...

x another solution , is to add a 5th injector for bigger turbo on some 4efte or 4e NA ,for the 4efte you will notice something "smooth" and on the Na engine , you will have no cuts ,no hesitation etc

x you can raise the rev limitier with 2 diodes and the inj harness too

  7. Hi

sorry for the delay, the weather is very bad in my island ...

    1) the piggyback/ecu solutions

In the past i have had experimented a lot of Ecu and piggyback , my car was like a laboratory...And for the 4efte it seems that :

    -EMB

    -SAFC

-reprogrammed ecu were the only option for our car

In fact it was impossible to change the stock ecu programm or adding an eprom or reflash it

This is why the piggyback was so popular and cheap

They work well, and you get instant pleasure to use them. With the biggest turbos we even have the possibility to cheat with the case. However, there are 2 major problems:

    - a lot of wires in the car

    - if you add the items you can reach the price of a standalone . Remember the first standalone , not so well , not very better, and it costs a lot ...(we were in the 8bit area) BUT, the price to tune here is too hign , you had to pay sometimes 1500euros to get your car tuned .

Why paying a lot if this old combo works ???

The only thing i can tell you " it's working" ...

i am with a special "combo" : EMU/BLITZ ecu ... but i know that Blitz can programm the ecu for bigger injectors ,as i said my friend works with BLitz japan

    2)emu/piggyback VS standalone

Sorry guys , but in our 4efte we will not see a significant difference in power etc ,Special if you have the EMU...

AS i said , we have 2 starlets NA turboed with td04L13, and the 2 cars made the same power , no one is better than the other...the only thing is the price : 2500e for standalone and 500e for a EMB(!) .

The EMB/EMB works well with Honda (F series,b series too)

In other cars , i cannot tell that the solution is good and works well.

MY old mazda has an ecu, and i was thinking wiring an Safc or EMB/EMU...

the SAFC was staling a lot the car, and the EMB/EMU cannot drive the ignition correctly .The car sometimes has somes cuts ,and it stalls a lot .How can i retard the ignition with a turboed car ?

i finaly went a few days with and old SAFC and ITC apexi with 5 knobs , i can only go to 0.5 bar and that's all ... However thecar was not runing fine , some hesitation, some hasardous knocking...

The standalone way seems for me a better choice , i went to some standalone (a kms bad mapped, and a Motek bad mapped too)

I was very disapointed ,and came back to my old 5 knobs apexi.

Finaly my friend with his Fueltech saved my life and now all is fine

As i said it is all in the tune

  8. i don't want to derail this tread, which is about td05 16g set up possibilities,...

so is it possible that we could start another tread about "emanage vs standalones"....i would be very willing to share my thoughts there...as i like the discussion between foggy, ramses, gainzy

or could a moderator cut their replies and create such a tread? ---if those parties are willing to have their responses removed from this tread of course!!

or someone start such a tread

    good idea

  9. You can also run 1.2bar on a td04 with premapped ecus like jam and so on. Just because it makes the same power means nothing.

No it means something else , because these are starlet 4efe NA turboed , and they run everyday at their high compression ...

I am sometimes with my friend who has a store , it tunes with Blitz/reflashed ecu and EMU and for him meanwhile he sells standalone , some piggypack like the emu is a good solution for some cars ...

  10. They won't touch them because they use to map them and never get anywhere near the results you would get with a proper ecu. Car will run much smoother with a decent stand alone along with several other benefits. If you want to run 3 times factory power in a starlet good ecu is a must. People spend good money on shiney manifolds and so on and put in crap like a e manage . Good ecu is the foundation of any good build. If you look even at any of the japenese tuners they don't even run japenese ecus anymore. It's all link, haltech and similar ecus

  11. anyone? ..i'm referring to the installation informaiton---like ring gapping, etc

    http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/52242-how-to-build-a-5e-fte-engine-5e-conversion/?hl=%2Bwossner+%2Bpiston+%2Bspecs

i found a little on this tread, but not all

All i can tell you that there are 2 set

one if the old and provide you §BAD SERVICE from WOSNER and the other is the more known

.... 3 set of WOsner pistons and still get the oil problem ...;my other car is a mazda and i swap to JE PISTON and they are better ...

  12. Gt2871 comes in around say 4000rpm it's not bad at ton of top end power

Not so bad for a 4e, i have seen the same at around 4500rpm or 5k rpm

I have experimented a lot of garrett turbo ,why not going a litle bit of high compression to enhance boost at low rev ??

There is another starlet in my island with 4efe standard compression (not 4efte) with GTX2863 and this starlet

kiks all of the big scooby with bigger turbo and it beats another 4EFTE with TD05 in a corola all the way ...

I am not a fan for only the big top end ,i prefer responsiveness and drivebility ...when your car respond quickly you can beat some bigger cars easily

  13. Hi

i was absent for a long time due to the fact that i was with my solar system for my house...

very curious to know when the boost comme in ...i am not a fan for a 4e with these big turbo , 5e in another world.

    A GTX2863 is better , GT2530 is old and 2871 a litle bigger for me ...

  14. Hmmm well I can say this ....

Im now running an internally stock 5EFE 9.5:1 comp with a TD04-13T with a 4cm rear housing machined to suit the td04 exhaust wheel and it is simply awesome. But the only drawback is that

I can only run 10psi using pump 98 gas. Still goes very well though.

Can only imagine how good it would be using E85 and 15 pounds.

I should do some data logs on spool. I know I get full 10 pounds before 3k

    are you sure ??

i can go over 14 psi in high compression
