  1. Neither have i mate. Especially after it being a forged engine of such low mileage. Im starting to think theres been a problem with the custom spec weisco pistons, But i will see what the machine shop say im wiping my hands of the build. They said they will sort me out if i ever need anything so we will see...

Also to add it had only covered around 3000Miles if that

there are a lot of problem about reliability with some forged engines, i have had tthe same problem with 2 engine forged from different brand .Finally i came back to my old set up : 5EFHE stock rods ...and stock pistons ...

  2. Lads, I'm not looking to run a garret 35 just want to find something out, I know it will vary on engine spec and whatever else but has anyone run one and what was the lag like?

On my 2.2 16v mazda , it spools at 4800 rpm and i change it for a gt 3071 ... with this i can spool at 3500-4000rpm... very laggy on a 4efte

  3. Cheers for that bud, I have been looking at the vf35 on youtube and sounded pretty lairy on boost on a starlet. What's the lag like and power it can produce bud?

with all vf you will pass the 300mark ...but remember that all these turbocargers were made for a 2.0 or 2.5 engine ,so response for a litle engine will not be the same .MEanwhile you can do the same with a TD04 hybrid too but the heat generated will be more important in the circuit

  4. Hi guys, need abit of help - in the new year will be getting a forged 4e and I've already got a race-tech td04 kit (non hybrid) but I have noticed bb vf turbo's for sale for half the price of a td04 hybrid but I'm not sure which one? Vf22 23 28 34..

I no they all spool slightly slower, or is the race-tech td04 hybrid worth getting over a vf?

Any help would be great :)

    Hi

i have already experimented a lot of Vf in my car , (PASEO, 5EFE ,all forged etc), the only turbochargers that i have no possibility to review is the VF34 and others Td04 like the RAcetech Td04.

The vf 23,14,28 are laggy for my car ,but the VF35 with a billet wheel is equal to a td04L in boosting situation, and this vf35 seems better than some td04 hybrid ...(TD04 L15/TD04/L19 TD04H 15 greddy)

Now i am with a VF35 with a Billet wheel 6 blades instead of the 11Blades

I do not know about the Racetech td04, but i have seen some hybrid as slow as a vf ,and on some video (youtube) as quick as hell ( racetech)

  5. Hey guys I'm currently having a forged 4e made and I have a hybrid K26 sitting around doing nothing. I'm just wondering how much more lag would the K26 be over a td04 on the 4e?

The most important is to know with what other parts the K26 is hybrided to. You can have a Hybrid with bigger turine and it means powers and lag as you can have a smal turbine that produces more response and less lagg

  6. The whole point of me going TF035 Is because i live in the country, Up on the north york moors, The ct9 at a bar hasnt got enough torque, And you can tell its stressed to death when under high load etc, While a TD04 Is too laggy and unsuitable.

If i threw a load of money at a good CT9 hybrid setup it would cost similiar to what i have ready to go on now! It will be more reliable (Factory turbo, Less boost etc etc) Than a bastardised CT9, And the so called CT9 Hybrids and arent even CT9s anymore, There just BASED on a CT9!

I have been in a couple of TD04 equipped starlets, And they just dont make sense to me, Yes they are a quick spooling turbo, but only when there at high boost on a very well setup car, I want full boost at 3k or so, Not 2K like the shitty CT9, And not 4k thereabouts that a TD04 has, in a small light hatch i dont see the point in the small powerband and sudden lump of power (TD04) It will just loose traction (And yes i could drive it and try keep traction, But why make it harder to drive??)

Also none of the vf series are quicker spooling than a TD04, there so much bigger its just not possible (We have tried a few turbo setups on our Impreza also)

I also chose this kit due to the compatibilty with other turbos for the future if i get bored.

Hopefully it will bridge the gap nicely beetween a ct9 and TD04, But we can only try and if its no good i already have a TD04 so i can just swap.

No harm in trying In a turbo what is essentially a smaller exhaust housing and slightly smaller compressor housing than on a TD04, It should spool nice and make good power compared to a TD04, Without stressing the engine at full boost (As i have said before why run a big turbo at low boost )

We will see anyway over the next week or so when i get the kit on, Will post info up lads

    TT

    Hi

i have tested a lot of Td series and VF series from subaru ...both with 4e and 5e engine, what i can say about spooling and response is :

*Tf035 is the much better option to get full boost and spooling on a 4e(for a cheap cost), but if you want to be much quicker take a TF035 billet wheel and it will be like a td12 and close to the td04 for power but playing like a ct9

TD04L13 is the very good option for a 5e engine , and you can find a billet for this , as you can be close to a 4e with ct9 in term of spooling.

Mine last test was a VF35 with a billet wheel , and my 5e is very close to a td04L13

  7. Im sure i read befor on TGTT that the stock injectors with a FPR on are equivalent to 330cc's injectors? dont quote me on that though

The blitz ecu has its own AFR bord so it should theoretically work out a safe mixture even with slightly bigger injectors

WIth FPR and stock injectors you will be close to the 7Mg injectors supra NA, the BLitz has a target at 10.5 10 AFR and with the 315cc-330cc at 1.3 1.4 bar with td04l it will not produce enough fuel but you will be at 11.4 11.8 AFR (depends on you AF gauge) and at these AFR you cannot run your car lean. After 1.4 bar ,now you can say there will be some problems

  8. @enots I'm curios as I'm also running a blitz with td04,but I can only go12psi max boost because chance of going lean are u using a rfpr with your setup?

i am very curious to verify why you will be lean after 12 PSI . with Blitz ecu you can add the 315cc injectors too without problem and go to 1.2 1.4bar safely without fpr and a big fuel pump

  9. Hi since having another engine fitted in my glanza and a few other bits done the red light on my greddy water temp gauge is coming on and the fan isnt kicking in till about 95-96 degrees then it only cools down to about 89-90 and starts rising again is this normal? the red light never used to come on when i first got the car and the standard temp gauge next to the clocks never goes past half way, could it be the greddy gauge is not working properly or the thermostat?

i noticed the same with my defi gauge and sometimes i can see 98C that seems hot for me ...
