After JAE i had heard that a few of you were talking about making a club starlet pickup style truck, chop top (if i read correctly). I thought it would be a good idea as a club owned vehicle for the shows and stuff. I know loads of people have got loads of stock starlet parts lieing around in their garages/sheds and i think you could easily make up a good project car from donations. I for one have got loads of stuff spare. I was toying of the idea of donating the EP82 shell to the club so you could start building it. What you think?

ha ha yes or course they will, picture was to illustrate the coloured wires.

More progress Took the dash out of my EP82 GT tonight to expose the cars loom which i need to unplug for the inside part and plug in my custom ep82 loom I wired up the other day. With any luck when i turn the key on the custom loom it should start the car. If it does then i have just jumped a huge hurdle and got the electrical side figured out and i can go ahead moving it into the ep70 ready for the engine. I'll be testing it tomorrow when there is more light. A little vid of me work!! http://s422.photobucket.com/albums/pp310/m...t=VIDEO0049.mp4 Decided I am gonna start doing video diaries too of this build, its so much more interesting to watch someone build somthing, rather than just look at pictures. You can get a feel for hard craft going into it! lol!

Doesnt sound like an imobilizer, it should only kill the ignition not the whole cars electrics. Do the head lights work when you turn them on to check the battery? After that i would check the battery in the key fob, then if your still having no luck, turn your focus to your fueses in the dash and then the engine bay. That should be a good start for you to fault diagnose it

If you ever convert yours series70boy then this should make it a doddle for you

I'll post that up now

I wont have the loom ready for about a week or so yet, i am in the middle of testing out the loom i have for the ep70 to check to see if the wiring is correct. (I currently have two looms!) One is working on the car now which is my test bed, while the other one im rewiring to test to see if its correct. If its any sooner i will give you a bell. Oil cooler kit is going into my EP70

Sorry dude but i need it for the ep70, i cant use the internal fuel tank as its not baffled in the EP70 and also it doesnt fit the EP82 fuel pump, so im using it for the ep70.

Ok so since the GT has got a wallop at castle combe, its now 100% on for the conversion, so got cracking today with the electrics. Me and my electrical expert mate Leon decided on a double loom combination so the EP70 would keep its original loom to power everything in the car, but the EP82 loom would also go in to power the engine and management. This gave us the problem on how to power the ignition for both looms as it would mean we would need two keys! A bit of digging around on the internet gave us the ignition wiring diagrams for both cars and we have now linked the EP82 loom into the ignition of the EP70 (so the boxy starlets original ignition will power up both looms on turn of the key). Haven't tested it yet but im hoping it works!!! Took the dash out today to get the electrics ready, unbolted everything (there are loads of bloody screws, most of them hidden) Out she comes! Bare and simple behind the dash, i love the way EVERYTHING is mechanical, no computers in sight!! Next was to wire in the EP82 loom ignition to the EP70 ignition, so the cars factory key would fire up both looms at the same time, used wiring diagrams to match up the wires to the correct ignition points. I managed to get the wiring diagrams for both cars for the cars ignition in the cabin (Its that square top left of the diagram we are interested in, rest of the diagram we dont need!) For anyone else doing this, the diagram tallies up with the ignition wires by letters for the EP70, IGN1, IGN2, ALT 1, ALT 2, etc and numbers 1-8 for the ep82. You just need to match the wires for the coresponding letters vs numbers. If you look on the plugs on both cars for the igntion they are also marked the same so you can tallie it up Leon doing some fine work soldering it all in The finished product, useful for anyone else doing a conversion as it shows which EP82 coloured wires match where on the EP70 ignition barrel. This is the part which is on the back of the cars ignition. Tried to test the spare loom out of the car to see if it works, but there are to many extra plugs to get in, so we are going to have to take the dash out the EP82 and then plug it in to see if it does the job. A long bloody process, spent all day just to get to this point! More to come in the week Next Job is to remove the EP82 dash to test my new ignition loom to go into the ep70.

Fair well GT this is the end of this build thread and the car is now being broken for the EP70, if you need any parts its all being except the engine, gearbox and shafts/hubs. You did me proud!! Broken brake line ended the car at castle combe, still drives fine but took heavy cosmetic damage EP70 here we come! -
James: I am afraid the bonnet is fooked, its taken heavy damage to the front right corner, gutted about that as i spent bloody ages fitting those catches to it and it was a nice bonnet!
-
Yeah that duct tape saved me, i still cant believe i could drive it home. I had to repair the brake line pull all the panels out, reattach the front bumper lol and loads of duct tape to hold it together. Got me home though!!
-
Gingdust: Wow did you see it happen, i wouldn't even like to think how fast we were going we must have been approaching that bend doing at least 80mph, i slammed on as usual to turn in, the car braked hard as usual for about half a second, then i felt a pop on the brake pedal and it went straight to the floor. We were still going WAY to fast for the corner all i had left was the hand brake. I bet you were wondering why i had the car sideways before i was even in the turn lol!! I thought i had caught it at one point and we were gonna get around the corner, but then the car hit the grass and it decided to straighten up, so i was like oh shit!! Lucky i managed to get the car at an angle enough to have a side impact rather than a full on front smash, my mate in the passenger seat shit his pants!! Do you know if anyone got it on camera, and did it look like watching it something had gone wrong with my car, or i just flew off the track lol. First time i have ever crashed a car that, what speed do you reckon we were doing when we hit the wall?
-
Whats annoying is that i set the camera recording while i was going around and i was like yes i got it on video!! but turns out the pissin camera stopped recording after 7 secs of me starting it, sigh, no memory left!! Gutted, i was more pissed off i didnt get it on video that anything else, got a new brake line made up luckily at the track, fitted it, bled the brakes and i was off home. If anyone has any vids of me on track send them to me, im dieing to see it going around It was the fastest its ever been!!
-
Hit the wall at castle combe today, had total brake failure I had made the mistake of putting the braided line on the wrong side of the suspension. It rubbed through the wheel eventually and below was the result. Car was going like a legend on track and the brakes were bloody amazing. if you thought i braked late before you should of seen it today!! Brilliant. Car is still straight and drives ok, but lucky to get away with it, going into the corner at 70mph with no brakes was scary, used the hand brake to drift part of it off and then whacked into the wall at a 45degree angle. Lucky i managed to straighten it up enough so that we didnt have a massive front end smash. Oh well this now confirms 100% i am doing the EP70, lol what a way to finish!! Some skillful duct tape to get home, it was a right mess under there!! The culprit, cant believe i put the line the wrong side, doh!! People loved the bear on track, i had loads of people coming up to me all day, i think another bear on the ep70 is a must!
-
Yeah that would be sweet, i bought it as a project so its going to get done through the winter i reckon. See how it goes, i have got 8 yearsNCB and im 31 lol so it makes for cheap insurance £109 classic car insurance, brilliant!
-
has your dad got it in one of them dust free zones in his garage, lolz! basically an airtight car bag!
-
Hey Ryan can i get both sides off you just in case the other one is fudged too as i had to feck around for ages to get it off and i didnt want to run the risk of it being buggered too when i go to put the fluid in. I'll order you a new set then or send it back to you if i dont need it
