  1. Hi all! Right. When I first start the car it seems to run perfectly fine at 1krpm. However, when it starts to warm up and I've given it a big toe or two, it starts idleing at about 2k... Sometimes it goes up to just over 2 and dips down to 1.5 and back up and back down over and over again...

I've tried two ICVs although both have broken "tabs" on the copper bit inside. After cleaning them they work better for about 5 minutes and then it starts doing it again... I've replaced the pipe that comes off it as well just to confirm there were no splits in the pipe.....

Anyone know what else it could be or had similar problems?

    Cheers.

    Adam.

  2. Sorry to have just skipped through all of the comments but I thought I'd just pop my peice of mind in here... Skylines are the sex.... HOWEVER! If you're looking for a thrill, I swear if you compare power to weight, a skyline is going to need about 400bhp to beat a stripped starlet running roughly 220bhp which is possible on standard internals as some people on here have proven... Imagine 300bhp in a starlet!?

I'd say skys are probably my fave car of all time.... But for a daily driver, cheaper option, more of a thrill for me personally... I would have the 300bhp starlet!.... If you want to start talking silly money and silly power then yeah the skyline. You can't get 1000bhp out of a starlet :)

  3. Did you try the lamda sensor mate? I had the same problem with my 1.7 fiesta after fitting a new manifold and it turned out to be the lamda... Just unplug it and see if that helps...

On top of that I have pretty much the same thing in my run around corsa at the minute and I've read up that it'll be the thermostat... tried that?

If its an air leak it'd do it all the time, not just when cold... It's got to be a sensor that reads the tempature or fuel air mixture if it stops when it's warm... I'd change the lamda and the stat...

  4. It's not that easy as it's a lot of fiddling. I changed mine but my car had a bare engine bay at the time so it was easy. I imagine you'd have to remove/unbolt the exhaust, remove the rear engine mount and the two bars that attach from the engine mounts to the body near the wishbones at the miminum.

Right... How does the steering column connect to the rack? That's my main worry really. I'm sure I can wiggle it out physically if I take enough bits off :)

  5. For a start I didn't really know what section this would go in :) so sorry if I'm in the wrong department!!

Right... I have a leak coming from the steering rack and need to change it (When I say rack I mean the thing in the engine bay that goes from one side to the other... not from the steering wheel into the engine bay). I've had a breif look at it and it looks quite easy to change from underneith, but I've read a couple of guides for steering rack changes on other cars and they say it should take about a day to do :s!! As far as I can see, you take the brackets off that hold the rack to the car, unbolt the ends from the hubs and pop it out?....

Has anyone done one of these before? How hard are they really???

    Any help would be great!

  6. NOICE! I hope it's done soon... Been waiting for aaaaaaaages now :). lol @ the fiesta... Deffinately worth a 1.7 conversion :)...... Are you going to paint the engine bay or has it cleaned up well? (I know it'll be in the thread somewhere, but seeing as there's 14 pages, I can't really be bothered to go searching through them all for a picture :)!!) And erm.... EHEM!! Carbon? EHEMMMMM!!!

  7. Ah I think I saw this on pistonheads!!?.... Idle problem like everyone else is saying, is probably the idle control valve. Failing that, try changing the fuel filter? If its ran out at some point it could run like an absolute dog from past experiences :)... Get her cleaned up mate! Looking forward to seeing some more progress :)
