  1. *UPDATE*Well I have been out on a busy with work and gave the wheels to my powdercoater to get done, and I got them back yesterday and got the tires put back on today, and back on the car. They were media blasted and then powdercoated the same colors that I posted earlier. The centers were done in Matte black and the hoops were done in gloss white. All 116 of the original chrome Rays stamped bolts were polished and reinstalled. And here is the result. Opinions please.

Also got rid of the dying HKS turbo and cracking stainless manifold and picked up a top mount BYP T3 manifold and a Garrett .48A/R T3 turbo set up for an external wastegate.

  2. the block is the same on all of them, the rods and pistons are different, but all the same block. the crankshafts are the only thing different, all are the same size and use the same bearings, but the crankshaft from the toyota sera's 5efhe is forged steel, it is stamped 5e whereas all the other 5efe's crankshafts are cast steel, and are stamped 3e. the heads, are also different but only on the distributorless 5efe's from 1996 and up paseos and 1995+tercels

  3. over here in the US, I pay about $3.90 per gallon for 92RON which is premium in washington state. that equals about £1.58 per Liter. V-power just got over $4.00 per gallon for premium.

  4. smart man right here. WHP is the way to go with numbers. that 394 was WHP. I'd love to know more about the 4efte doing almost the same power with only 23psi. could you link me to a build thread?

and hp listings should be a real figure too, like HP at the wheels, not any of this guesswork crap BHP at the flywheel

381hp at the wheel on 23.5psi on a 4E........ "boosted gt" from AUSC

  5. I got my first gun when I was 15 and it was a red rider bb gun .177Caliber

then when I turned 16 I got a Daisy Powerline 1000S(1000fps .177Cal pellets and darts.)

when I turned 19, I joined the navy and now get to shoot an M16, a Mk43, a M500 12 ga shotgun, and a 9mm pistol. also I have had the pleasure of shooting my stepdad's collection of darrengers, and my youth minister's Winchester 300Mag.

  6. So, while my ps3 is updating, I figured, I'd share some more knowledge, it may be known to some, if not, most, but here it is for all.

What's the difference between an ep82 4efte and an ep91 4efte? well that answer is very easy. Aside from a few sensors that are different, the rods are also very different, they are the same length and use the same bearings, but the thickness is what is different.

    Picture187-1.jpg

on the left is an pre 1995 ep82 4efte rod and on the right is a 1995 ep82 and ep91 4efte rod, clearly, you can see the difference.

The 5e's on the other hand have many more differences.

there are two different rods, I dont have a picture due to tercelonline being down but the difference is the same as on the 4efte's, one is thick, one is thin. the same thicknesses as the 4efte's the thinner of the 5e rods belong to the distributorless and "JDM" 5efe's(or any 5efe made during or after 1995), the thicker rods which have long believed to have only come inside the 5efhe, are not unique only to the 5efhe, but also come in the usdm 1st gen paseo's(made before 1995), and also in the 3e engine found in 4th gen(91-94)Tercel. There is no difference in these rods other that are stated last(5efhe, pre 1995 5efe, and 3e). I have taken apart quite a few 5efe's and a couple 5efhe's and have found these results in all of them.

Now for pistons, all 4efte's have the same piston, same dish.

5e's on the other hand have 4 different variations, the usdm 1st gen 5efe has a very slight dome to it, maybe 1/2mm, the DIS or 2nd gen 5efe's have no dish, no dome, they are flat top pistons with valve recesses. the 5efhe pistons have the largest dome at approx 1mm. the "jdm"5efe's have a different dome than these, but I dont remember what exactly they have, so I will update this later with pictures. now for the pictures of the pistons.

On the left is a 4efte piston, middle is a usdm 1st gen 5efe piston, and on the right is a 5efhe piston, you can clearly see the difference.

Also there are 2 different crankshafts that came in the 5e's. In the 5efe's the crankshaft is stamped 3e, as well as in the 3e engine, and the 5efhe crankshaft is stamped 5e, BUT, I recently acquired a "5efe" out of a bone stock 1993 Paseo with an automatic transmission, that had a FULL 5efhe bottom end(5e stamped crank, thick rods, and 5efhe pistons) but the engine was the original engine, and had only been opened up to replace the head gasket. I will investigate this further, but now you know the whole truth. If anyone has any info or pictures they would like to add to this, please do add it. I just want this information to be available to everyone.

  7. A common problem if you run an engine un-tuned is detonation(combustion before the piston is at Top dead center, caused by timing being too far advanced for the engine). Detonation causes a shockwave throughout the cylinder and the pressure escapes through the weakest point, which in the stock E-series engines is the piston's "ring lands" and breaks them. When you take the engine apart, you will only see a few tiny cracks on the side of the piston between the piston rings, but behind that wall, those cracks are connected, exposing the crankcase to the full onslaught of the cylinders pressure, which is going though tiny holes in the piston's lower oiling ringland. This can allow your fuel, and combustion gasses to enter your oil and break it down extremely fast, but no worries, as you will burn oil faster than the gasses can deteriorate it. The symptoms of this are:

1: a rough idle, due to a cylinder misfiring.

2: turbo oil seals being damaged due to excessive oil pressure

3: oil coming out of your breather or catchcan filling up very fast

4: oil vapors or smoke coming out of your breather, pcv valve, or any hole in your valve cover.

5: exhaust sounds vaguely like a boxer engine.

6: very low compression on one or more cylinders(190,190,190,120, or something like that)

This video and these pictures will show you what to look for and how to diagnose these symptoms.

    here are the pictures

    hairline cracks:

    Picture176-1.jpg

    Picture175-2.jpg

    Picture181-1.jpg

    Picture180-1.jpg

and once you remove the piston rings, you will find out that the cracks are connected.

this is what you will find.

    Picture192-1.jpg

    Picture190-1.jpg

    Picture189-1.jpg

You can slightly see the oiling holes I mentioned they are only about 1mm in diameter each

    Picture193.jpg

and the video. Excuse the squeaking, the radiator squakes due to a loose mount, but is being replaced while the engine is out.

Well I hope that maybe someone is able to learn from this post, and that nobody ever has to deal with this problem.

  8. Went today to Facetuned in Tacoma, WA. Tony welded me up some beautiful intercooler piping. It looks amazing. Also he welded up my Tial 50mm BOV which also looks absolutely amazing. I also got a new radiator and slim fan. Its a dual core CX racing one. tomorrow I'll go look at a blue Sparco Torino seat, but I dont know if I'll get it, because I want a set of Sparco Milano's.
