Yeah well im guessing you where sent a JE from the same company as we where. Our block was decked already and it still failed. All thats been done since is check surfaces and use a proper athena gasket. Car has been running all day with no issue. I think the gasket was the problem here.

the proper branded one came from idworkz

I dont see any problem with this. the power is fantastic, valve float can be rectified by swapping on a 4efte head. yes, annoying, but factor that cost into what your willing to pay.
You will have to keep in mind that this is, im guessing from the valve float issue and the power output at low boost, a high compression engine.
Basically just swapped a 5efe in place of a 4efte and got it mapped.
I have no problem with this, i only use 4efe myself as they are fun and cheap but i wouldnt expect to be making any more than 200bhp on it. id say id could take another few psi but that depends on who maps it. If it goes wrong a 5e is much more difficult to get bits for unless you go forged and if you damage the crank its game over. they are too rare to bother looking for unless again, your going forged.. then its worth it. -
The packaging is exactly the same, only the branding differs. The gaskets also look like they are pressed on the same machine but the athena gasket has a coating on it and has different layers.
It was used because of the company that we bought it from. Apparently that is what they use on their own cars and customer cars. Even though its sold as a 1.2mm Athena head gasket online.
Anyway, the engine was running again 2 hours after the photo was taken after surfaces where checked and the proper athena gasket was used this time. Everything is perfect now.
I have made the company aware of what happened and they havent made any attempt to offer even a fractional refund for the faulty gasket. Just advised for us to check that the surfaces are flat.. Well that would be great if that was the problem.
We will however be returning the stock we have. -
They might not think its a good thing. It might just be the way its coming across.
Best to call and see how the problem is portrayed over the phone.

If its getting valve float the head is not 4efte lol. It may be rebuilt but its deffo an efe head.
-
fcd. get rid. get a piggyback or a P+P ecu.

Ordered an Athena HG. Received a JE Tuning? i think its called to go into this forged build.
Head was skimmed and fully rebuilt, Block was bored, honed to piston tolerance and decked flat.
Everything was assembled, Primed, and started. all perfect.
Usual leak checks, etc, everything was spot on for once. not a single thing wrong.
It was taken for a drive up the road to check everything as a c56 ae111 lsd diff and gearset was used and rebuilt so it was taken through all the gears at low load/rpm basically no boost. Its currently running standard turbo setup + ecu.
The car was parked up, left to idle for a few minutes and turned off. again. everything was spot on.
In total the engine had been running for approx 4 hours.
The bay was given a general tidy up wiring wise and cleaned down. Then it was started to move it outside and the engine was misfiring. Quick compression check showed ZERO on 2 and 3.
Head removed to reveal this.
This is the engine being assembled:
As we ordered more stock from the same company we had more of the JE tuning gaskets. In the meantime we had ordered some Athena gaskets elsewhere and received actual Athena branded gaskets. So after finding this we took a pic to compare the two:
Could the gasket have been faulty? -
Check for leaks. this kept happening to me when i was giving the car beans but only when it was up to temp. Turned out the rad had a crack so small that i couldnt see but it opened up as heat got to it, eventually it completely split open on the motorway, overheated almost immediately, blew out the oil seals along with the oil and heat seized. it was a fun day.

As above! Billet wheel one too

And, dont you have a charger for the laptop?

4efe, 5efe 1e, 2e etc all have 6 stud crown C series boxes.
Only the e series turbo boxes have 8 bolt.
All A series (5a,4a,7a) have 8 bolt from what ive seen.
Im not 100% but i think all the ZZ engines have 8 bolt crown C series. -
Im 6.1, still an inch or so for the seat to go back if its your legs, if its your torso it might be a squeeze. If its an even difference you should be ok but just on the limits lol.

Ive done
Rolla mani
Itbs
100bhp engine
All with custom 4 branch mani and straight through 2" exhaust.
Then I went 4efe turbo. Threw it together for about 200 quid, modified my exhaust to bolt to decat.
Wont ever bother with na 4e again.
-
Fair enough! Sounds like a nice build
-
Your trying to get 200bhp from a 4efe na?? They would barely make that turbo.
But what you want is 4efte valve springs
-
So to clarify, your using ep8 springs on ep7 shocks
-
Glanza injectors should do the job with the Corolla mani. Don't want to go too big of an injector or it will run rich
Dont do this.
-
They aren't the slowest car out there. I drive a 94` e10 corolla estate with a 4efe in it and its adequate for tipping around, even quite easily towed another corolla with a rope. Just dont expect to be able to safely overtake anybody the power just isnt there.
-
Best bolt on is everything off a 4efte lol
-
He already has lowering springs but they are too low.
-
Topmount up front ;) win win
-
Not everything from china is crap but you have to wade through the crap to find whats good. Some real bargains out there

Perfect thanks

Funny thing is, the Gaskets we bought from idworkz worked out cheaper including postage to ireland. Go figure.
