Really want to fit a tacho to my ep91 starlet, just wondering how i would go about installing it, i know black wire would be earth etc and another to the distributor? well anyway i was just wondering because the glanzas have a rev counter built in, so im wondering if all the wiring loom for a rev counter would be behind the dash? or if not, how would i go about installing an aftermarket tacho like what wires would go where etc, all i really know is the black has to be earthed, another has to be a 12v source, i would probably wire it to the stereo maybe? but where does the other wire go, just a simple enquiry im sure alot of people on here have done it also if anyone has a spare tacho i can buy off them for a reasonable price i would be more than gratefull Dave.

Yeah they are, ive literaly never locked my drivers door that way, but the first time i ever do, is when i leave the keys in the ignition, fantastic.

Thanks for your comment, i know the air filters not perfect where it is, i will eventually sort it out so its at the front of the car, but for now its much better than it was. at least its getting some cold air rather than nothing But yeah i just cant wait to get some better wheels, lower it, tinted back windows and a new steering wheel, and sort out the front bumper, i think it will be looking much much much better then. This is my EP 91, i have alot planned for this car, and thought i mayaswell do what everyone else does and make a thread about it over the months as i upgrade it slowly This is what the Car looked like when i first bought it, was you can see it was near enough pink as it was 1 old woman owner who had had it from new, i bought it for £500 it was a bargain in my eyes it was aound this time last year when prices for little cars like this were poopie high, nobody would touch it because of the state it was in. Then after a 3 stage process of paint cleaner, polish and then wax it came back red and was looking stunning. I haven't really got any pictures of what it looked like right after this, because i did take a few but i have no idea where they are. Anyway the next thing i did was put a Sony stereo in and some 6:9's i cut the holes out of the parcel shelf with a jigsaw and wired them up through the car putting the wires behind the seats and under all the trim in the car so there hidden. Next i Put loads of crappy stickers on like sparco and some other shitty stickers like 'look i survived the scrappagge scheme' and a load of others. Next thing then was the air filter, I've never worked on cars at all and knew barely nothing when i started. the first time around i fitted my air filter like this... But then after thinking i reolised it was much better to have it like this.. Its not only better for the car, as it is getting cold air, but it looks better, i will eventuall clean up my engine bay at some point i just want to get the exterior looking nice first..also, ignore the oil leak, thats been there since i bought it its never caused me any problems however if anyone knows how to sort it out i would be more than gratefull for your advice. Then next i did a little bit of stickerbombing, just the spoiler and the fuel cap which i think is a nice touch to the car.. Then this is how it stands at the moment, i took the door trims off, put some wind deflectors on that i got off amazon for something like £26 which is a nice touch. The glue is still on both sides of the car from the door trims, but that is because i am in the process of trying to get it off. but i think it looks much nicer already with them off! You can see the difference in the colour from when i first bought it, and any weekend i can where i have time i polish and wax it to keep it that way. Also did a little bit on the interior.. I have the same planned for the dash surround too. Anyway i know its not much so far but i thought i would make a thread as i progress. The next few things i desperatley want to do is get some new either alloys or steelies for it im not sure what would look better at the moment, if they were steelies i would want white ones, if alloys, black ones, then i definatley definatley want to lower it every starlet i see thats lowered look so much better. Then i want to get a tachometer in there, because i think it will look good and i want to see what kind of revs im doing.. and i need a new back bumper, and i want to do something to my front bumper, ive seen people cut the grill and put mesh in? that could maybe look quite good? and then maybe a laguna splitter? anyway what do you think? i know its not much, but neither is anybodys starlet when they first start out. i just really want to do all the work myself and learn as i go. also ive put HID bulbs in the headlights, not a full HID conversion, just the lookalike bulbs which has made them white instead of yellow which is nicer. I also want to get some square number plates for it. Anyway tell me what you all think, constructive critism please Dave

hahahah! ive slept in my car before, its actually quite comfy lying down on the back seats with a cushion, but being woken up by the postman when your in your boxers in someone elses street isnt very nice. but yeah same, there was no way i was smashing a window, the option was always there but i just couldent do that to my car
-
I'd already turned the ignition off, i just left them in there because im stupid

Im definatley getting a sticker on my Dash saying dont forget your keys, and getting a spare key and giving it to the mrs is an amazing idea! its made me feel a little bit better now though knowing im not the only idiot out there so depressing for just 5 hours being taunted by your own keys in the ignition staring at you through the window, and having the cable ties inside the car but just not quite reaching the door pin.
-
yeah ive been out on it today with a hairdryer for half hour or so, but ill give it another go with the autoglym stuff anyway! thanks

ahah if looks could kill i would of been dead last night, i had to drop her home aswell, and i had no petrol in the car and i didnt have anymoney, thats all i would of needed was to run out of petrol too

everyname under the sun mate. some couple who walked past us gave her an umbrella ahah but then she broke it, i just kept telling her to wait inside

Took my door trims off the other day but cant for the lift of me get the glue off the body work, ive tried everything going that wont damage the paint, paint cleaner, t-cut, and bug/tar remover, ive let it soak and then tried scraping it off with my fingernail or a credit card and its just not coming off, what methods have you used?
-
I got spare keys made up for it because i knew this would happen one day, but i hid them in my house somewhere and i hid them so well i couldent even find them myself. so i will have to get some more cut, payday tomorrow which means buying shit loads for my car. also is there any other way of getting a spare key cut for starting the car? because the keys have an imobilser and i dont fancy paying loads to have a proper one made up. i got a key cut before ust for the doors and boot etc

When i supposed to be in work a few weeks ago, i came in about an hour late having locked my keys in the car, and they didnt have a go at me, they all just started calling me delboy instead. But last night was horrible, just standing in the rain for 5 or so hours, fiddling with a cable tie inside my car trying to get it around the door pin. horrible. i can only pray that i dont do it again

Ah about 2 weeks ago i locked my keys in the car, and i called the AA out and they came out and unlocked the car in about two seconds with a bit of cable tie and some plastic bit to pull the door back, then last night about 5.40pm i went to cardiff bay with my girlfriend to go to the cinema and did it again! only this time i left them in the ignition (no idea how) and it was pissing down with rain, so i went to the security to get some cable ties and a screw driver, but everytime i got the cable tie on the door pin inside it would slip off, in the end i was there for 2 hours trying to do this, i got absalutley soaked and drenched, i havent been that wet in years, no sexual enundo intended. My mum was in a lecture and as im not covered by the AA myself, my mum is and she needed to be there, she was useless. so i just carried on, cut a long story short i stood in the rain calling everyone i knew untill i eventually got the AA out to come and do it because i phoned my sister, and because my girlfriend was with me, i got her to pretend she was my sister while the AA were there. but i didnt leave the car park untill 10.50, i was there for over 5 hours in the pissing rain. I hope someone has had a worser experience than me with this to make me feel a little bit better, also i snapped my winddeflector in the process wich im very annoyed about please share your stories about this!

Complete Noob here, never worked on a car before but always wanted to do everything myself on my car and progress and learn by doing everything myself. We've all got to start somewhere... Anyway, i Fitted a Ripspeed air filter to my starlet, chav i know and when i first did it this is what it looked like... Ignore the actual air filter for the moment, but basicly where the bracket was for the old box for the old filter, is where that black filter is, if your following, i moved it from the back of the engine bay to where the bracket is for the old filter to allow the room for the new one, and when i did this the gear linkage in my car became very sticky, and if i was in neutral and moved the gear stick left or right, it would stay left or right, it wouldent spring back into place. Anyway, (This is hard to explain as i dont have a picture) Ill get one up tomorrow, but basicly i put the old air filter back, but without the top half of the box and without the old air filter, so the Ripspeed air filter is still on there, but its resting on top of the old air filter box. so if you just picture a standard starlet engine, without the top half of the box of the air filter being on, and without the air filter being inside it, but with the new air filter resting on top, so there is cold air coming through and it is being sucked up underneath, this allowed me to put back the other filter or whatever it is, where it is supposed to be (the one that was hanging on the old bracket of the air filter) BASICLY to cut a long story short, my gear linkage is back to normal, feels so smooth and springs back into place like it should, HOWEVER, my air filter doesnt sound as loud, not really a problem, but it doesnt feel as fast, now im aware air filters dont actually do much, if not anything on cars. but when i first put it on i could feel it pull from 30-40 in 2nd really nicely, and it still wanted more, but now, when you reach 30 in 2nd it just feels slow, and i dont know if its just me or? but i can definatley say it was quicker before, which wouldent make sense seing as theres cold air going to it now, and before it was sucking up warm air from the engine.... It Just doesnt make sense, I applaud anyone who read through all this. And i hope someone understands me! Dave.

Yeah you were behind me heading to brynsadler, on that 40mph road, i kept reving my engine and slowing down and speeding up to get your attention, but you just didnt seem to care :L i was so exited, i was with my girlfriend and i was like look behind us look behind us! getting myself proper exited about your car ahah! you werent phased at all though, then you pulled over by the shops in pontyclun, i was this close to turning around pulling up next to you and just saying 'nice car' and driving off! -
ahah i dont find them cute i want some alloys for it but have hardly any money, so just looking around for a cheap set somewhere that i can spray hopefully, and yeah alot of questions have been answered just by looking around on here, i just like doing everything myself and learning, like i fitted my 6:9's myself and my air filter etc i know its not a hard job but its just nice to know i did it myself, same with my air filter and a few other things, but yeah i cant wait to get it looking nice, not sure what to do about my spoiler now though, the sticker bombing has faded already and looks really tacy! and i want to take my door trims off but im scared it wont look good underneath, i took a bit of it off and theres really thick sticky stuff underneath thats impossible to get off, ive tried everything.
-
Ahah yeah ive just come on here for the advice more than anything, got so many questions that need answering! I've seen a few pictures of your starlet, very nice indeed! I really want to get some new alloys for my car, i hate 3 spoke on a car it makes it look so small, and i want to tint my back windows and get rid of the door trims and a few of the stickers on the car. just a few things like that i think it will make it look much nicer.
