  1. If your replacing it with a aftermarket headin it and your car has original plugs then search on ebay for a toyota radio plug and make sure it has same plugs as in your car and then any aftermarket radio shoul plug straight in they are some wiring diagrams about but depends on model of your car

When you say plugs chap you mean the same adapter that Billy linked to on Ebay?

  2. They are very well respected in the hi-fi world as good gear. It isn't going to outperform a full on separates hi-fi system for sound quality, but as far as this new fangled wirelesss streaming malarkey goes you can't really better it for price / performance / ease of use. It gives you full system synergy, and that's good as it's all designed to work together and stops a lot of the hassle of mix and matching gear.

  3. I'm surprised I can't find a DIY guide on this or a Wiki entry as 1st timer peeps always have trouble with it. I am wanting to replace mine but reading numerous threads it all seems a bit daunting with many pitfalls. If someone could knock up a post with piccies it would be great.

Otherwise I may have to give Halfords £29!!

  4. "Are they expensive"

Tom, nothing is cheap in BMW world if it's genuine! I can testify to that. Ignore the VW comparison as at the end of the day VAG diesels are good workhorses no doubt, but VW's are not anymore reliable than BMW's. I've had several of both and so far BMW ownership has been far more reliable by a bloody mile than some of the tat VW shove out. And there is no way the pride of ownership is the same I can assure you ;)

As for performance, well if you check the MK5 170hp GT TDI it's officially only 0.60 7.9 and the 330 will pound that into the ground. Evo mag loved it, and said that conservatively it was 7.2 for that same benchmark. And yes BMW performance figures are well known to be conservative. If you wanted to upgrade it well you have plenty of options. Have you thought about a 320 or 120D? They can be wound up with a single (+ surprisingly not too expensive) official BMW Performance upgrade to near Golf GTI performance without risking warranty (if it has any). A 120 M sport is a nice motor in Le Mans blue for example.

But back on topic, you will love the 3'er i'm sure, but make sure it's got very good history and get it checked by expert (RAC inspection or whatever). A friend had a 320D and grumbled at having a £250 warranty renewal from BMW come through the door. He told them to stuff it. A few weeks later he had a glow plug failure and got a £2100 repair bill from a dealer! Yes, they can be that expensive, and although independents can save on labour, the parts if genuine are always going to be £££££.

330CD Msport is a great motor.

  5. Maybe have a look at Alex jones and the occult studies, Stanley Kubrick also ties in for some very interesting reading.

All I ask is to look with an open mind, believe what you want to that is your right. But that is also mine.

    Tom.

Tom, I'm sorry I can't take occult seriously (just as I can't listen to childish conspiracy theorist crap like man never walked on the moon etc). A couple of thousand years since intelligent man has been roaming the planet and conveniently there is not one single piece of on-demand repeatable action / process that shows evidence to uphold the notion that there is a dark / unseen side of life - and you'd think after all this time someone would have something on film or camera or shit would't you! Damn that devil man, he always seems to leg it from the room just as the camera starts rolling!

The occult and such like is only for childrens stories and Hollywood (Mr Kubrick) IMO. However, I do like gothic music, and as long as people treat it with some humour and a pinch of salt it's fine (leading goth musos Wayne Hussey and Ian Astbury NEVER took it seriously).

Of course I respect your right to completely believe in it, and disagree with everything I've just said. You are perfectly within your rights to say i'm talking b*llocks. That's the wonder of a free thinking society ;)

  6. LOL! David Icke is a fruit cake (or certainly was). Many of you will be too young to remember this footie goalkeeper turned BBC presenter turned loony tune, but if you don't know of him try finding a video of him on the old Wogan BBC chat show. He thinks (thought) that there was a master race of lizards or such that ruled man!!! He also said he was the son of God.

He may of calmed down a bit but maybe still needs a bit of medical help.....

As for torturing suspected terrorists, well they use our freedoms and human rights against us to slaughter the innocent. As they showed no mercy to the innocent men, women and children who they disintegrated by slamming their fragile bodies into the twin towers that fateful day I see no reason for us to show them any mercy. And yes, I do believe that the government / forces of a democratic nation state have the right to torture those it has good evidence against who want to destroy or overthrow the state.

Whenever the fifth columnists pop up (Amensty International / liberals / lefties) crying foul about human rights breaches of muslim terrorists I always try to imagine the terror and fear of those poor school children sitting in those airliners waiting to die moments before they hit the towers. Many were without their parents and never got a chance to say goodbye to them. The human rights of any of the terrorist scum soon slips away to being 100% non-existent in my mind.

    End of.

  7. Pedal boxes are prone for snapping on the welds.

    Day

Oh yes, forgot about that. That was a recall too. Gearbox was not good for VW reputation in my opinion. All German peeps with failures got free replacements, all UK failures got if you were lucky and pestered them enough was afaik a 'contribution' to a new box. Well gee thanks VW, thanks for helping me to pay for your f*ck up. Got shot of mine after 8 months. My last VW - ever.

  8. 2001 6n2 polo gti a mate sold his for £1200 about a Year ago

Noooooooooo... don't do it. As a former huge Polo fan I had one and they are not particularly fun to drive, in fact lousy handling over rough stuff - can't push on with speed at all. A Honda engineer told me that they checked one out and it had mostly standard Polo suspension. And although quality BBS wheels and such like they have a design fault VW acknowledged which means total gearbox failures.

You might just as well get yourself a 16v spec model and use it as a starting point.

  9. Do you really need the paper version? There is a full PDF version floating around on the internet - I can point you to it if you want (it's not on a torrent or a dodgy Russian site or anything). I found the link from a Starlet forum down under.

    Let me know.

  10. Welcome chap. Car looks mint. I really like the 70series. If only someone has a Si or R tucked away in a garage..... Starlet longevity is bloody great isn't it. I often chortle to myself as I trundle past new (mostly French & Italian) cars broken down on side of road. Maybe you could start a thread in projects section?

  11. its not the brake line brackets catching on one another is it? i know that BC and Meisters coilovers do this, maybe these do it too. failing that change your topmounts.

I fitted corolla gti complete shock assembly on my newer corolla and they did this, i changed the shocks from the newer ones with the springs from the corolla gti and it solved my issue.

however your rears should not make any noise and theres no turning motion.

I've no idea Morgey, i'm told that that on the ramp nothing was catching but i'm only going on what they said. I'm not really up on this stuff tbh. The front top mounts are new KYB one's which I'd think as OEM replacements should be like the originals. Maybe going back to Toyota ones would do the trick... I'll just have to live with it until I can find a garage that does know what they are doing.

  12. Sadly dude your garage are telling lies. There are spring cups top and bottom for the springs to seat on.

In future I would use a different garage

Well they say it's front springs and I did have new top mounts at the front (not back as KYB don't make them) so maybe if I'd kept the old ones it would not be happening. I don't know. As for being a good garage, well how do you know these days? This garage has rave reviews on the 'good garage scheme' website and locally - they have a good background in various prestige dealerships before setting up on their own. This is one for the rant section but these days 90+ % of tradesmen I use seem to f*ck things up. It's like nobody has all the skills anymore. If I had a £ for every garage that did not do work 100% without fault I'd be rich.

The guy I used to go to who was 100% solid sold up his own garage as he was fed up with all the hassle of self employment, then went in as a mechanic at a large local independent garage but then got fed up correcting f*ckups made by the other mechanics they employed who mostly are useless, and so now he has got himself an easy life doing MOT's for Kwik Fit!

So seems it's not just the customers getting cheesed off with crap mechanics.

  13. Well fitting garage found issue to be front passenger side spring twisting / moving slightly against top mount when at full lock. They say it's because there is no lug or something to stop it at the top unlike the bottom. They tried cleaning up and reseating everything 3 times but can't fix the issue. Maybe a faulty manufactured part as the other side isn't doing it (not sure that is true I heard noises coming from front and back).

Not causing any damage apparently, so looks like I'm going to have to live with it unless I start trying to fault find specific part and get a replacement. But as I've already spend £600+ on the suspension parts and having them fitted it's not really an option to spend even more when the car only cost £995!
