Galliano
Well been looking into it after seeing a beautiful colour of car (will remain secret!)Considering this.New wing needed - my current one is buckled slightly to leave no panel gap between bonnet and wing when shut.Bonnet faded with white polkadot sort of water marks beyond recovery.Dents and chips in the rear panels (either filler or better panel beater)A cut front bumper so i need to do some smoothingRear bumpers laquer is peelingA few small chips in the bootlidall in all im spraying the bodyparts, i might aswell throw in the doors and do it a different colour. So if i dont register it with the DVLA does that make the insurance void? its not going to be red so it wont be able to pass as red on the v5, its not even gonna be coral wreath.. ;)So where would i stand on that? Galliano
so i am told its classed as a modification, and that it can effect insurance prices in the future?
Idrees
Depends what colour you go
Galliano
im going to say blue. its a fairly nice blue, but not a royal blue what you would htink of hearing/seeing the word.
StarletRick
it would only affect your insurance if it was considered more "desirable" so going from a dul red to say, a metallic blue. could make it more stealable. and a suitable adjustment in premium would be due. Idrees
Apparently the respray on mine should make my insurance cheaper because it is more visable on the road therefore less likely to be involved in an accident!!! ;) ;)
Rich
So go yellow if ya want cheaper insurance... hmmm excelent... ;)
ste91
alternatively if you have "THIS CAR IS STOLEN" painted on the side of your car in bright letters your insurance will go down quite a bit? ;)
SpeedFreak
I know! How about you just call up your insurers, and ask them????? I mean, this might be the easiest way around this question!!
Starletraje
cause he doesn't have an insurer yet speedfreak ;) he's enquiring for future reference really
SpeedFreak
Aha, now I see!!I personally didnt think that having a colour change made a difference.
Starletraje
i really don't think that it should. if it says on your V5 that its the correct colour the insurance company don't need to know about it. and will never find out.its not like is says "metallic" or "pearlescent" on the V5 so theres no way to find out. as long as its changed appropriately
SpeedFreak
That part about the insurers not needing to know, is incorrect. My friend had a respray done on her fiesta a while back, police pulled her over and told her that the car was registered as black. But the car wasnt. They gave her a producer, and 14 days to notify the insurers and take the producer back to them.
Starletraje
but if its registered as the resprayed colour then theres not a problem
SpeedFreak
Well from my experience, or my friends it is.Her's was on her VRD, but she hadnt told her insurers. So therefore, the police pulled her for it.When you apply for insurance, it asks if any modifications are done to the car from standard...a re-spray is classed as a mod, therefore you have to tell them. Starletraje
true. but for 20 quid extra you'd want to take the piece of mind huh?
SpeedFreak
Oh yeah, thats not my point. My point is - if you dont report it to your insurers, then your insurance is void. But I think people should delcare it, its more hassle in the long if you got caught.

SpeedFreak
Oh yeah of course they do.My partner has an evo 3, and when he got it, he called up his insurers to swap from his old car, and clearly stated that it was the 3 model. When he got through his insurance certificate, it stated evo 4. When he phoned them to tell him, they told him they couldnt insure it! So he then had to fork out to change insurers.
Starletraje
well the woman who wrote off my starlet has now told the insurance company that she never hit me in a way that i could be injured. and that i must have been injured in a previous accident and that there is no way that she caused the damage to my car.this is after getting the settlement on my car of course
Galliano
yes i am looking for this as a future investment, my car wont be on the road for a long time yet anywho, and neither will i.its a duller metallic blue the paseos azure (same colour as nangles blurple) so being registered as blue probably wont make much difference... but its more teal or tropicana.. but the apseo had a tropicana which was registered green, and some were registered blue aswell.. how would that work out? lol
StarletRick
itll be whtever family of paints it comes from. all paint will have a colour grouping. no matter what the shade.
Glanza_Ragger
Insurance shouldnt go up at all, if it does, there rapists!Just phone them and tell them the BASE colour of the car.Even if its a flip, you just state the starting colour for example. When i had a respray in alfa aurora nuvola with a pearl ontop, it went from light mettalic blue, to dark purple to gold.As if the v5 will have on it,model : Starlet colour : A bluey, kinda purpley gold.. ;)
