The Advantages & The Disadvantages!

Okay, So I was going through the forum and I couldnâ??t find anything about the bad points and good points about the Glanza or GT Starlets. So I thought Iâ??d start a new post as am not a current owner but have driven the Glanza Model a handful of times.

Glanza Model: -

Advantage: Fuel Economy, Fast, Comfortable, reliable, head turning looks

Disadvantage: Interior

But you guys live with theses cars most likely day in and day out so speak out!!!

pros, well i'll agree with fuel economy. as stock, you'd call them 'nippy', not fast, although they're easily tuned if not cheaply (parts are bucks compared to other imports). head turning looks? well, unless you get told you have a nice micra :D

Also comfort is a personal preference. The stock seats are shite and even if you change them you're always sat 'on' them as opposed to 'in' them, sit in something like a civic or am S-bodied vehicle and you'll realise what i mean. Also, depending on what suspension you have (mine was rock solid), yours may also be unique in being comfortable (stock suspension is very bouncy, so yeah, could be called comfy!).

The interior is classic early 90's jap, uninspiring and boring, like most jap vehicles of that ilk.

Cant fault the reliability though. Had mine for well over a year and nothing ever went wrong, except for a clutch (consumable) and a cv-joint after i let it go dry by not checking the boot which had split. other than that, absoluely faultless. love how you can not worry about em in that respect, unflappable.

Minxy, when I had my car (3 Years ago) Toy Tuning didn't exist, Dave Warbush was just starting up and WikedEP mainly made kits for GT Turbo's

Glanza's were an expensive to get bits for.

Paul, you think they are easy to work on :lol: There engine bays are SOOOO tight!

They are easy to work on ! And theres loads of room in the bay !!!

Indeed i do bud,i have fairly dexterous hands so it may be easier for me, mind you they are big hands and i can make em fit anywhere with a bit of persuasion :lol:

bad points on the gt

bodywork is thiner than glanza so more prone to small dinks in the bodywork that really show up on a good wash and wax. (im a perfectionist it does my nut in findidng new ones every other month) the rattling bootlid is annoying in the winter as windows are up and you hear it more. most gts bodywork wont be in as good condition as there older and harder to find a mint one. other than that cant really fault anything else as i love my car with a passion. my c v joints have gone and click all the time going round corners and getting out spaces . really does my nut in but never got round to fixing. actually n e one know what price im looking at for fixing that as i should really fix it before buying anything else?

Well they are the same car with a different shell and turbo what more can be said.

Buy a GT as they are better in every way B)

Cheaper to buy

Easier to insure

And are just better B)

is that true about the bodywork being thinner on a GT? if it is then i assume they just had the ability to develop a bit further on the glanza (the GT bodywork does stem from 1989 mind, so that prob explains it).

I prefer GT looks over the V...it looks meaner and less Micra-ish...

I have to agree with the Micra comment.

The only bad point that I have come across with these, is the fact that people who have no idea about cars think its everything but a starlet. So far I have had Micra, Corsa and SAXO! I mean a fucking saxo...come on! :lol:

I did find it very very hard when I was trying to get a hub for my car this time last year, and I tried loads of places over and over again.

But I do love the handling of my car, due to very hardened suspension and lowered it handles brilliant around corners.

Yeah I have the identical opinion about the various remarks you are prone to get from ''none-petrolheads'' or ''none-jap-enthusiastic'' as a result for that the GT does somewhat get the heads up on the looks. But the Glanza does appear to look more present let’s say...being called a micra is frankly insulating but saxo or corsa not so horrific!

Personally from the region am in I’ve notice a lot of people have acknowledged the difference between them as there are so many so I guess I wouldn’t really suffer from that sort of abuse. Plus there’s a lot of diversity between the Nissan sign and the Toyota one wouldn’t you agree? Well maybe not that much!

Sorry if you’ve owned a mirca personally the extreme dislike is down to top gear as well as various individuals driving them!

you've obviously never driven a car that can really handle well.

starlets at best are average, even with uprated suspension.

on the gt front they are lighter and faster because of this, i actualy love the instriment binacle + front and reara lights of the advance model,

brings the whole new meaning to the word tuff, so while everyone else were fitting moriettes to scorts, fiestys and scoobs, toyota were doin it standard.

Well to me it handles well. My partner is 28, and has driven loads of different cars. He currently had an evo and still thinks mine handles better as it sticks to the road well and can be thrown around corners.

My opinion.

Valentino - I would rather my car be called a Micra than a corsa or saxo. Atleast that way its still Japanese!

I once drove past a group of people who said "Look at that Micra". I proceeded to stop, and go back to tell them exactly what it is!

But I find these people are normally the ones who drive clios or such like.

Where I live in Norfolk, there are hardly any starlets. I only knew about them as I researched alot before getting one. There must be 6 at the most in an 80mile radius!

Honestly I never even thought of it as that! Fair comment to be truthful I was just going on the looks! Everyone to there on taste nevertheless.

The rarity of the Glanza and GT models have died in my town :) in a 5 mile radius there most possible around 15 and that’s not even over the top, every ‘’thug aka gangster wanna-be’’ has really pick up a Glanza or GT which is kind of piss-taking mainly due to the fact I’ve seen about 4 to 5 of them absolutely smashed to bits as there always someone racing or doing stupid driving manoeuvring in it.

Ahh Oh Well! Still like them!

Thats because they are so easy to insure, and cheap. When I say cheap, I mean a good cheap car thats still a turbo.

Take a look at scoobys for instance, I dont know about you guys, but in my area, every coont has one! 18 year olds are driving around in them. They are just so easy to insure nowadays, and I have heard a few people starting to call them the new chav car!

(Obviosuly I mean the older shape P reg shape!)

easy to insure :p u having a laugh before getting a starlet i checked for insurance on 1 and couldnt get cheaper than 2600 and on my starlet im 900
