Engine Diagnostic Check Procedure

When your engine management light comes on it means something is wrong. Ok so now you need to go out to your car and;

  • Go into the engine bay and open the fuse/diagnostic box (little black box on the left-hand side of the engine bay) And the underside of the lid will show you the pin layout.
  • Bridge pins TE1 and E1 (with a paper clip or bit of wire)
  • Turn ignition on (but don't actually start the car)
  • The engine management light will start to flash
  • It will flash say 4 times **** then a short pause
  • It will then flash say once *
  • This means error code 41 ie. Idle speed prob
  • The management light will then start flashing another error code (they may be more than one fault) or have a short pause and repeat the same code over again
  • Then refer to the list above or the diagram below to see what the error is
