dale10ellis10
Well i got pulled over on the way into my street yesterday by a silver undercover BMW, My number plate is still in my front window as i recently fitted my front mount and havnt decided where to put my front plate, its probably my own fault for having it there but does anyone know the rules or law behind front number plates? It was in full view in the middle of the dashboard but just on the inside of the car.I know the rules for MOT are something like front number plate must be presant and securly fastened and thats about it really doesnt say where ect..I should mention i got a £60 fine as well!!!Cheers Dale. StarletRick
it needs to be on the front bumper and for imports it needs to be at LEAST motorbike sized lettering.

Sparky
Thought vinyl ones are illegal aswell? Beacuse it wouldnt be readable for the machines as its shiny and not on a flat surface?
Curtis
yeah they are now, plates nowadays need to be reflective with the correct spacing and at the bottom of the plate it needs the name of who made the plate
Smithy_dub
Vinyl plates are now illegal. and yeah the fine went up from £30 a plate to £60 a plate a few months ago. It's really strict now, has to be proper reflective plastic (or metal but thats still a grey area) with the BS mark and postcode of the place that made the plate.Has to be on the 'furthermost forward point as possible', ie. the front bumper on most if not all cars. LukeSR
Of course you can get a fine for having your numberplate in the window. How are speed cameras men't to see your plate? Common sense really...

Jae-Glanza
Nice one folks, Has anyone gone for a smaller size of just settled for mounting the standard one to the side (if you have a fmic) and if so, what size?
lukEp
Think the rule is something like the plate need to be mounted as far forward as posible on the car so long as it has a suitable and safe mounting place
dale10ellis10
http://www.craigsplates.co.uk/import-number-plates.htmlGet a read of that guys ^, imports are legally able to have a smaller plate size on the front of the car.
