Nads Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Hey guys again,I change my idle today as i was getting annoyed at the steering wheel shaking and the feeling the engine is going to cut out when u idle at traffic lightsit was idling at 900 rpm but Ive set it to just above 1000 rpm.My question is - Is it safe to idle at that level and will it have long term effects ?Cheers guys Quote
micky boy Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 not sure about the long term effects but you will use lots of fuel if i was you id set it at just under 1000rpm or bang on 1000rpm Quote
Guest ep82_girl Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 dont know why you turned it up my wheel has shaken for 2yrs and has never caused a problem and as micky said you will use alot of fuelxxxx Quote
4efte_ryan Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 would have it at 900rpm, thats about right mate 1000rpm is abit much did you adjust it with the idle screw or tps? and if the car shakes at 900rpm make sure it hasnt got a slight missfire?? Quote
LukeSR Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Mine idles just below 2k when its stone cold, when its warmed up just above 900, it say about 950 but sometimes it drops and makes the car shake, never gave me a problem Quote
Carl. Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 mine seems to shake and make a horrible noise similar to the noise of trying to set of in 5th gear or something lol Quote
chr15_7_t_ Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 ...myn idles about 1600 when cold but then comes down to 900 when its warm Quote
Russleh Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 mine idles at like 750. doesnt shake or anythin tho. Quote
Revo Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Mine idles at 900 but drops 800-500 & shakes with A/C and when I turn the power steering.I have added an extra 50 RPM by using a Mazda top radiator hose that bends under the air intakerather than the standard one that heat soaks the intake. In Sydney things do get a little warm though.Regarding your question of long term effect I think one answer is going to be which oil you use and how it performs at idle. Quote
Raz Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 idle at about 1200.When car is in "D" it drops to about 800-900 depending on the cars mood, on some occasions it goes about 500 and shakes like fuck. The rpm drops abit when using anything electrical rofl. Quote
Nayls Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 mine idles at like 750. doesnt shake or anythin tho.mines the same Quote
Michel_M Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Have mine idling at bang on 1000 rpm for a couple of months now, quite pleased with it. Really smooth, but I guess you shouldn't go any higher then 1000 rpm. Also when you set it too high, you'll get the problem of not being able to drive slowly in 2nd gear or something properly, like in a parking lot. It will think it's stalling then, because of the high idle rpm and will shake quite badly. Quote
Nads Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 Yeah i think its a bit to high being over 1000 rpm idle.. i will tune it down to be just under 1000 rpm. i just find it doesn't struggle more then it would if i had the idle at 900 rpm! Quote
Russleh Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 shouldnt really be struggling at 900 anyway. sittin in traffic if i let it just go down and tick over chuggin along it still doesnt shake all that much and thats on the verge of cuttin out. Quote
