GL4NZ4
Hi all,Whilst sitting in traffic, my revs will suddenly dip slightly and then pick itself up again. If in really heavy traffic the revs would dip even lower causing an irritating vibrations.Just wondering if what I am experiencing is normal? Is there anything I can do to remedy this?Any help appreciated!Z
Mikey Jay
Not sure if it's the same thing but my car does is too sometimes when sitting still/barely moving in traffic although is only subtle.Tends to be when the engine is still fairly cold (although sometimes is where I get lazy and the clutch isnt down enough )Hopefully someone can diagnose exactly what it is for you.Don't think it's anything to worry about though. GL4NZ4
has anyone else got any ideas?
scutch0
you might wanna try adjusting you idle up slightly, theres a grub screw on the stopper for the throttlebody for adjusting it.
GL4NZ4
But if i adjust this would this stop the fluctuation on idling?
Nanglebadger
It sounds as if its hunting (thank u gerard ). Mine would do it too...nordonian recommended i try cleaning the sparks, try that man, hopefully its as simple as that.Phil.
scutch0
it might do, if the revs drop too much i think the engine looses momentum, so will stuggle to idle.
GL4NZ4
well i am abit of a thick idiot when it comes to mechanics but where is the idle screw located?
scutch0
you'll need to take the top mount off, and its the stopper for the throttle. its kinda hard to explain.you should find it no problem.
GL4NZ4
ok...so its under tmic....i'll give it ago...cheers!Might also try cleaning the idle control valve aswell.
paul w
Top right under the top mount, there should be a rubber cap on it take it off and adjust away.
Zafar
I had the same problem. cleaned the rotor inside the distributor and voila problem gone. Sorry dont have any pics but the rotor had lots of corrosion on it. before that i had done a diagnostics - no codes which led me to check all physical aspects.I also de-cat the exhaust but no noticable change at all, if at all i felt like the car lost some power. Mikey Jay
Sorry to dig up an OLD thread, but my Levin is having similar problems with big dips in idle speeds (almost halves).Assuming changing the spark plugs would help?
scutch0
it'd be a start matey. is yours distributorless ignition?
Mikey Jay
Eh?Runs on normal spark plugs with HT leads. Is that what you were asking?
scutch0
nah, i think the blacktops are disributorless ignition which means there is no dizzy cap and rotor arm, the leads go into a coil pack and (i think) the ecu controls the sparking.altho looking at your engine bay pic, it looks like it does have a dizzy so you could try cleaning the contacts on the rotor and dizzy, or (as i did) just buy some new ones. Mikey Jay
Excuse my mechanical ignorance, but how do you go about cleaning/getting to said parts? Is it simple (bearing in mind I'm fairly simple ;))When you say buy new ones, do you mean distributor cap & rotor arm (have part numbers for these already just in case ;) )
