Stupid COW!

Recommended Posts

I was once cruising along a (2 lanes in both direction road) at 30mph in my Mk1 Escort ( ) with a light controlled T-junction turning to my left, and a green light ahead. There were oncoming cars turning across in front of me into the junction to my left before I got there as there was a big gap in front of me.

The last oncoming car (a Renault 5) stopped (giving way), but then at the LAST SECOND pulled straight across in front of me, meaning I t-boned the passenger side at maybe 28.5mph.

The result was the Escort had 5-10mm deep "bruising" to the front panel/left wing/bonnet. The R5 on the other hand was totally banana-ed, the roof and floor both bent into tents, the windows exploded, and the passnger with pushed onto the driver's lap by the passenger door!

So the two girls in the R5 were ok somehow, and the driver told the police that it was her fault and she felt terrible. I assumed all was fine.

Next thing I hear was a few days later he friends all told her she's a really good driver, and she wouldn't have made a mistake like that, and she decided it was my fault! So I rang the officer who had dealt with it and A he couldn't remember what she'd said and B he hadn't made a note of it in his little book! ARGH!

So I learnt three things:

1 - Photograph everything after a shunt, and if possible write what happened and all parties sign it. (if everyone agrees, pretty rare).

2 - Make sure the police WRITE THINGS DOWN. ;)

3 - Don't buy a Renault 5.....
