SooperD
Thought the exhaust note sounded slightly odd while driving the other day (usually listen to music so dont really hear it on low revs driving) and it sounded like it was blowing from somewhere near the backbox. Just took a look and yup i can feel air where the pipe that comes from the backbox unit and backbox pipe (that joins the backbox to the middle section)is. Also noticed some rusting on the middle section on the part that goes vertical towards the flange to join back box to middle section.I was under the impression the system was stainless steel but obviously i was wrong. To be honest im not exactly sure what model it is but ive been researching and i think it looks most like the Legalis R version. Can someone clear up that this is not stainless steel? If its not would it be ok to get it welded up as my funds are extremely low right now.Mucho appreciation.D
Paul-GlzV
think it's mild steel and back box is stainless even so both could be welded up no probs and shouldn't cost an arm an a leg. i'm sure some1 will be on shortly to give you a definate answer
SooperD
Cheers for that mate.. Yea if i could get it welded, just for the time being that would be my best option.. Then save up and get a new system in the summer. It may seem a bit of a silly question to ask as obviously stainless steel doesnt rust as such, but there is definate rust on the back box connecting pipe where its welded into the back box so thats why ive asked the question. Amjad
Let us know how much it costs to get it welded buddy, my JASMA exhaust has a leak somewhere too..
SooperD
What exhaust is it mate.. JASMA is on mine too but im sure thats just a Japanese test that all Japan exhausts must pass.. I think the exhaust note has to be under 95db to gain the JASMA approval plate. Will let u know.. Gonna have a ask around see if anyone local can do it cheap but good.. Im thinkin Welsh coast customs in Newport but dunno what kind of prices they would charge.Still need to know if its definately Mild steel tho.. Im sure the HKS systems etc are full stainless but ive no idea about these fujitsubo exhausts.
Paul-GlzV
JASMA stands for Japanese Automotive Sports Muffler Association or something like that it'slike a british E mark basically all JDM exhausts should have it if they were intended for road use.been lookin about mate and all legalis r systems should be full stainless?? ;) unless your mid section is something else? you should hav a silencer box roughly under the gear stick in similar shape to back box if it is? Amjad
ThanksI'm not sure what make it is, either Kakimoto or Fujitsubo; I'll check when I'm next home! I'm looking to buy a new exhaust so I'll be looking to get mine repaired and sold. Will probably go to Pro-Speed to get it done, they did a top job on the NA!
Paul-GlzV
mild steel centre sections are common on kakimoto systems an well know to rust an break especially were they meet the rear box, hard to get one in good nick but they sound awesome ;)
Sparky
All JDM exhausts are made from shitty mild steel, my Apexi N1 has rotted really bad and been welded so many times, better off going custom mate
Chopster
I had my back box come away from the mid pipe yesturday and a local garage fixed it up quite nicely for £28. He is a top bloke and specialises in stainless and mild steel custom systems. Dropped it off at 3pm and picked it up at 5pmIf your near the west midlands, the garage is called AA - Silencers in Stafford, Staffordshire. I presume a quick fit would be in a similar price range? Stulet-GTT
Stick a magnet on it, steel it sticks s/s it dont stick...One thing that pissed me off about my jazma back box s/s rest of pipe steel an fell apart...
Jozinobi
The thing is my full n/a Legalis R was fully stainless.Check out your exhausts in the Jasma guide lads, stop calling them Jasma ;) Joz
Amjad
I know it's not called jasma, I just can't check as my car is 130 miles away ;)

Amjad
JDM JASMA Exhaust GuideThink I remember mine being 001 Fujitsubo!EDIT: Just saw my post in the thread ;)
Idrees
All JDM exhausts are made from shitty mild steel, my Apexi N1 has rotted really bad and been welded so many times, better off going custom mateNot all. Blitz NUR spec and Fujitsubo Power Getter aren't, to name a couple.
SooperD
Cheers for all the input peeps... Cant find any pictures of any full fujitsubo systems for the EP91 to compare mine to. Ill take it to a garage near me next week when i get paid as i cant get under it properly to see the extent of the rust. Hopefully it can be patched, for now. What kind of prices have people paid for full SS custom systems with a standard jap style backbox ? if its more than £400 i may aswell save a bit more and get a blitz,HKS or similar if the exhausts holds out long enough.. Amjad
Pro-Speed quoted me £350 for a fully custom Turbo-back, £280 Cat-back!
JackStar
I had a fujitsubo Legalis R, and mine was most deffinitely mild steel centre, the back box was stainless, mine was rotten from front to back.If its the same as mine, is the back box big? not like a hi power etc.Jack
Jozinobi
If I was to upgrade to a new ss system I would definitely go Blitz Nurspec R as the bigger bore will accommodate future upgrades such as TD04 and likewise. If we can get a trader such as monster motorsport or someone who has some stock to do a group buy I would defo go for one.Joz
SooperD
@Joz - Like your thinking there .. Altho im sure we would still be looking at £500 tho :/ .@Amjad, thats more the price im looking for.. When you say "Turbo back" you mean the cat is removed and standard stainless pipe in its place? If thats correct how does it work in relation to the sensor (or whatever it is that i see on decats?)Thats 1 thing id like to know too.. Do we need a Cat on a Imported Starlet? Some people ive spoken to said no, others yes.@Jackstar, Yea you mean a more oval, normal looking back box ? Not round like the HKS? Mine is an oval shape. Says Fujitsubo on the underside of it.
Amjad
Yeah mate that's straight from the Turbo back including a decat! Most CT9 decats are 2.25" and he can do 2.5" good for 250bhp+! I'm sure it would be no trouble for him to weld an attachment for the sensor plug! And no I don't think you need a Cat, some people say the 96> models do, but the engine never existed in UK spec cars so you'll only need a basic idle test ;)
SooperD
Ahh nice.. im liking the sound of that already.. Better start saving then methinks ;).. Cheers for the info Amjad.

Amjad
No worries buddy, let me know how you get on, I wanna buy an aftermarket system and get a 2.5" decat made by Charlie
