miib14 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 hi guys, the problem is when i get on to the motorway and drive about 70-80.. when i get to destination and open the bonnet, theres water/coolant all over the place..the radiator is forcing water in to overflow and then thats spraying all over the bay?the temp gauge stays near middle of gauge.what could be problem?thanks guys Quote
Guest cheshireglanza Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 what pressure rad cap have you got Quote
ktl Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 try thermostat/bleed the system/ rad cap... if not will be the headgasket and to tell that is get a sniffer test done, a compression test dont always tell the truth when it comes to HG Quote
miib14 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 ok thanks guys...whats a sniffer test? Quote
ktl Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 they put a solution over the top of the radiator (cap open) and if it changes colour tells you HG gone. Quote
miib14 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 ok cools... so just go to local mechanic? or somewhere else? Quote
ktl Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 a garage should have the stuff. just say think my hg has gone i was told to get a sniffer test done.. basically solution over the radiator and will change colour to determine hg gone Quote
miib14 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 I've checked the car over today and done afew things..both rad pipes are hotno oil / water mixheater blowing hottemp gauge needle stays in middlerad fan works toochanged the rad cap too...whats the easiest way to empty overflow tank? Quote
miib14 Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 ok guys, went out this morning before work and took rad cap off and the radiator was full and so was overflow tank.. so i started the car up and the coolant started to rise and come out of rad, so i closed the rad with cap, emptied the overflow to just about low and then went for a drive...when i came back the overflow tank was full. left it there for about an hour and it was still same...phoned the place that did the conversion and they suggested i do the same thing and empty the overflow tank, fill the rad up and go for another drive but dont boost it and i did that... went on to the motorway with no booost (which is 0.1 bar) and did that for about 20mins.. i came back and the coolant hadnt moved... it was the same as just before i left..so on boost its forcing water out and on no boost its fine?any suggestions? Guest cheshireglanza Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 buy new rad cap and change thermostat Quote
miib14 Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 will do that as soon as it stops raining... Quote
lukEp Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 my celica gt4 did that and it was rad cap Quote
miib14 Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 no luck luke, changed it with one that i know for a fact is literally brand new..havent had any luck with either test...went to atleast 9 garages.. all busy. but when i explained what was happening i got some different reactions...afew said headgasket (early), afew said thermostat and waterpump because its not doing it all the time and only doing it on boost, and one said blockage somewhere..one also said when you rev engine and hold top radiator hose, there was alot of pressure building up...most of them said come back tomorow, so another night of thinking and worry...  Quote
ktl Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 the head will lift when your on boost, what mine was doing...another thing to do is mate, drive on boost hard, stop somewhere, pop the expansion tank and have the nozzle still inside the coolant, and then rev the car (on the throttlebody) untill you hear the dump valve loud (meaning rev it hard) and see if any bubbles are coming through the expansion. miib14 Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 well i went out today and its fine now.. dunno what was wrong with it... seems to have sorted it itself..this is what did to check if it was rising..when car was warm..on and off boost (stayed the same)just hard booostleft it to cool down, came back after 2 hours and it had gone down to just below the red linevery strange Quote
miib14 Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 dunno really.. someone said it could be a sticky thermostat...will keep an eye on it.. Quote
