nazzurro19
i know that by blocking off the inlet and the pipe from the intercooler to dumpvalve you can get a chatter sound but does this recirc and kill the turbo lol ?ive got a realy bad boost leak from my cheap egay jobby and i cant really afford a new dumpvalve atm so wat i was thinking was where the dumpvalve is now take it off and bung up the pipe from the intrecooler , or hammer it down and get it weld shutbut then the vacum line going to the inlet how would i block this off ? lil bit of pipe and a screw in the end ? or would it build to much pressure and pop the screw out ?so basicaly how would i block the inlet off and would this be ok to run this set up with the standard ct9 ? string
i use a chip stick lid in the pipe off the intercooler hot side. i screwed a bolt into my vac line of inlet manifold and it doesn't pop off. no problems with either side. hope this helps.
nazzurro19
literally just a screw into the inlet? not like a lil bit of hose with a screw?yeah thats helped thanks ill probs do it today somepoint
string
yeh sorry a screw into a vac hose off the inlet. i put vac line instead of vac hose sorry
nazzurro19
dya think the blue vacum wud hold it aswell?
string
yeh blue hose would be fine.
Amjad
I've put a bolt in my silicone breather hose and duck taped and then jubilee clipped the DV pipe on the FMIC, holds fineAs for whether it's safe, I don't think it'll have a hugely detrimental affect, but as with most things it's debatable..I can't get enough of the noise though
iamlegend
oil breather on the rocker cover!, remove the dumpvalve, block the hole off then block (screw) the inlet vaccum of =chatter but sounds poo on the CT9 well did for me theres lots of debate about it killing your turbo search the forum you will find dozens of info lol...ive meshed my tdo4 and running no bov he he extra death!flutters like a pure porn star
dan_91
meshed turbo ftw. exact my old man went mad at me when i told him i had the filter off an meshed, youll kill your engine bleh bleh bleh. so when i get insurance im taking it straight off again so he doesnt notice
Amjad
I don't rate mesh tbh, it'll filter out big things but what about dust etc?
Glanza_cl
Compressor surge i.e 'chatter/flutter' is bad.... to an extent, depends how you look at it.By blocking off your dump valves pressure from the turbo cant be released there for when off throttle heads back to the turbo and gets forced back into the compressor blade which creates the chatter/flutter sound (air getting chopped up by the compressor wheel). In theory forcing air pressurised over 18+psi back into the compressor blades slowing there rotation or putting excess stress on the shaft bearings isnt a good idea. But in reality who cares it sounds good, and tbh unless your running a turbo with ceramic compressor blades proven evidence of extended wear of the turbo running no bov is yet to be proven.Plus you dont run enough boost to cause any major damage. perhaps if you where running 2+bar boost and then forcing that back on the comp wheel... then you might see a shortened turbo life.hope that helps making a decision easier
StarletMad
As Above... Il run my TD04 at 1 bar boost all the time with the vac blocked and so what if it shags my turbo after a year il just but another £100 of ebay Sorted Wouldnt worry about it
Stulet-GTT
oh god not this crap again...I havent had a dv for the 3 years of runnning my car, personally i dont like the sound of a dv on starlets....

string
mesh is less surface area for air suction. poo. mesh covers the inlet so how can that be better than running a filter on a silicone bend that goes around the inlet. as long as filters rated to desired brake. why not run no mesh for all the mesh lovers that will slate my view
Sparky
Not that again string ;)Go take your filter off and put mesh on and come and tell me it doesnt spool earlier ;)
nazzurro19
ha i did do a massive search i tried "fmic chatter" frount mount chatter , fmic recirc, recirculation etc but none found the answers i was looking for but i will do ths 2moz
Socks
buy a blanking plug:http://www.roosemotorsport.co.uk/index.php...3tl4khssrtcpt37fmic chatter for the win... then when u buy a decent d/v adjust it so it only dumps at a really high boost level... so you get chatter and dumps! epic win... thats wat i did ;)

string
Not that again string ;) Go take your filter off and put mesh on and come and tell me it doesnt spool earlier ;)i'm not saying its a bad thing. what i'm saying is it will be more restrictive as it covering the inlet. where as a filter isn't. surely thats right.
Glanza_cl
not really... yes it covers the inlet but the mesh surface area is smooth and non restrictive (to an extent)a filter has a fabric or paper gorse the air has to pass through as well as a mesh holding the structure of the filter together, it then has to pass down a duct to the inlet on the turbo. along the path to the intake the air can become quite turbulent in the intake filter pipe (dependant on the design of intake) a silicon intake pipe will create a lot less air turbulence as its smooth and the air has nothing to get restricted through, but in either sense passing air through a restricted path at speed, turbulence will happen slowing the speed the air is travelling. Each have the advantage/ disadvantage... but mesh is less restrictive. safer? no, greater intake? yes
