the mileage on my car is incorrect!

Recommended Posts

right basically when i found my car for sale before i bought it, it was still in japan and one thing that attracted me to the car was the fact the mileage wasnt to high or atleast i thought it wasnt. the advert for the car said the car had covered 79,300 miles from new. and i have the orignal advert to prove this which is here:

http://www.200bhpcars.com/new/stockb.php

when the car arrived it was on 143,000km which is roughly 89,000miles,

i recieved a spare key the other day from the person who imported it and he phoned me to ask how things were going and to make sure i recieved the key, and i asked him why he lied about the mileage and he said when he picked the car up from the docks the clocks were not working so were replaced with other ones whith the higher mileage on

so do i believe this guy and if so is there anything i can do with the incorrect mileage?

thanks

you can wind them back, as when i had mine converted from kmph to mph the importers wound it back for me

so it all reads in miles

ah right, does it matter that i have two mot certificates with 140,000 odd on them?

i think if you go with a lower mileage next time then the last time

you can reported for clocking a car, which iirc is illegal

just looked online, clocking a car isnt illeagal, but selling one that is clocked can lead to you being reported to Trading Standards.

But if it was private sale then i dont know what they could do....

yeah the guys who do mine, will pop down and ask them one evening,

i just hate high mileage cars, sounds so stupid but it proper winds me up to the point i have thought about importing a cheap glanza s with low mileage just so i can have a low mileage car and a glanza s bonnet lol

It's not illegal to wind them bac, but illegal to sell a car knowing it's been wound back. Saw it on a TV show once (the one the little bald bloke presented where they repair cars and sell them on lol)

This mans got it in one it's illegal for a garage to sell you a car that they know or believe to be clocked, however once the car is in your name you may ask said garage to wind the clocks back to their equivalent miles (from km obviously) you should of got A certificate with the car signed by the garage about the miles, I did from SVA imports obviously it's reported to some authority that you have the clocks wound back as this is a one off thing :) however you can just do it yourself but again would be illegal to sell it without informing the buyer wha you d done

Okay cool, but if I was to wind the clocks back to the cars mileage instead of km surely when I go to sell people will understand what was done and not find it dodgy? It's not like I'm clocking it just putting it to what it should be

this is what i was talking about a certificate that will say the millage on the clock BEFORE you wind it back tbf i was gonna do it but both SVA and GBH said you can break the cogs and that so its better just to say when i got it it had ...... on it and thats the equivilent of... milles now its got ...... so its do ....... miles all together :)
