Dave@TM-Developments.com
10w40 is better suited
shaneyb
Dave why is it better suited? Opie oils recommend 5w40.
GTnomez
You ran it in already????!!What was your 'Run in' procedure. It will be 10w 40 for me
Sparky
Well I have bought Millers CFS 10w-40 now, think thats what I used to run it on anyway. And yes Nomez done 1000 miles in just over a week lolWell the first 100 miles were with no boost, and then just gradually brought the boost up and was boosting .5/.6bar from then on. Done an oil and filter change after about 600 miles. Ran it in like a man and its been fine
shaneyb
Sparky you must have deep pockets .
micky boy
I use 5w 40 in the winter and 10w 40 in the summer
Sparky
Sparky you must have deep pockets .They are getting smaller everyday mate lol
Liam_D
I run 5W 30 Eneos Nippon Oil in mine and its been fine! Expensive stuff though.
festival500
If always used fully synthetic but yesterday the guy I take the car to said I should be using semi ? He said 5w 10w fully is way to thin!
A L 3 X
If always used fully synthetic but yesterday the guy I take the car to said I should be using semi ? He said 5w 10w fully is way to thin!If he suggested use 5w because 10w is too thin he's an idiot, or have I read it wrong?I use 5w-40 fully, main reason being 5 is thinner when cold but both oils are the same when warm, so on cold starts it will flow around quicker? festival500
sorry dude, i meant he said '5w 40' is too thin. but thats what i thought, being 5w just means its easier on the engine for cold starts but when warm performs the same as 10w 40.
A L 3 X
Ah got ya lol, well every time I go to the shop where I get my oil and filter they say I'm getting the wrong oil when I pick up 5w 40, and say I should be using 5w-30.I've already told em it's the import version at this point, and so I reply can you show me what exhaust manifold to turbo gasket I need also please....which returns a severly confused look on his arrogant face...after he's typed on his keyboard and realised "computer says no"It just shows a lot of these shops only know what their littleDatabase tells them and don't understand using an oil slightly thinner than that can be a benefit on these engines, like I say mate I use 5w-40 fully synth, a lot of people on here and tgtt including opie oils recommend it....the shop I go to say 5w 30 as I assume that's what a uk starlet uses from factory, I'm sure under my bonnet it says 10w 30 also but I think that's a more jap grade oil that you'll struggle to Find over here. festival500
Only reason I really questioned it was because the car who does the work on my car owns and competes in his own drift team and specialist jap garage. His always been great and really knows his stuff. Maybe he just means that 10w 40 is more suitable. Think I'll stick with fully syn but go for a 10w 40 through the summer Thanks for your input buddy
shorty
10w-40 semi! End off. I've run a forged engine for 10k on it and its as fresh inside as the day it was built. the legend that is mr burwash told me to use that and i always have always will. fullys are too thin! Jozinobi
Have been using 10w 40 since the days of the 4EFE, through to 5E and now 4EFTE (ct9 and td04).No performance or running issues and with regular changes, the car has always been 100%.Castrol magnatec is 10w 40 however it is much thinner than it should be. I use Fuchs Titan XTR.Joz
Keenoep82
5w-40 good quality fully synth. Service at 10k or annually rather than every 3k on semi synth..Both have the same viscosity once warm but 5w will get round the turbo (and the rest!) quicker from a cold start. Hawaiiviper
10w-40/10w-30 Royal Purple for 6 years car still runs like a champ......but I do make sure I let my engine oil temp register on the gauge before boosting on it.
StuDoc 72
I use 10w-40 mobil 1 super 2000 semi. Fully synth is for modern engines with higher tolerences u should be using a semi in these engines thats an opinion though dont want to trigger more of a debate.
Flaminsam
I agree with Stu on this one. A good mineral oil or semi synth but not fully synth.
