Socks
This may be an idea, im sure ill get shot down in flames if not!As many of you know i put one of Taggys great ideas into real into quite good practice with the EP Power Leaderboard! Alot of interest, alot of people submitting and its a great tool for comparing stats! So now its time for one of my ideas, but ill go through it in simple terms and throw about the good and bad points! The IdeaAn Infobase (i know that sounds nerdy) As we all know, the Glanza's/GT Turbo's are quite rare cars, they were never sold in this country and are avaliable only as imports. Now im still aware there are at least a couple of thousand in the UK, but the majority are enthusiasts so... Have a central infobase of all the cars..So people can submit there car, the reg, type, color, date of import, mileage, crash damaged records, owners, mod history, optional extras...So what are the benefits of this?It can allow us to keep a rough figure on just how many of these cars are left over here!It allows people to double check there buying a car that doesnt have a bad history! It can pose as a way of getting in touch with previous owners or even future owners of a car you used to own! However, the only downside to this of course is privacy, now I know alot of people will not want there reg number plastered all over a website. So im kind of open to ideas on security on this one...Do we incorporate it into this website with a post count limit before being able to view. Do we make it a username and password jobbie...Open to ideas now and advice, or do you think it'd be a waste of php code! I think i could do a good job of it, so if its an idea that would go down well speak up

james@cjperformance
sounds like a good idea in theory, would be an ideal site for someone looking to clone a car as imports do not have engine numbers down on the logbooks.

james@cjperformance
neither my glanza or evo had a vin on the log book, all depends who did the documents at the dooovla, and what info they were given.could you not do it on a partial plate and username, most people would find said info via either forum anyway I would imagine and most members stick around once selling up

james@cjperformance
well if your on about using it for people to find out history about their car partial plate forum username and real name should work. of some one for arguments sake was buying a car all they would.need would be partial plate and full name from the current owner to find all the cars detals. much like the info on the ep leader board

Socks
yeh, i think its a good idea, i just dont want to compromise peoples security. etci dont think having a reg is tooo bad, but i certainly would bother with vin etc...
rob_bower
no reg is no bother imho there is enough pics of peoples cars with plates still in!

Taggy
Yes i think this is a great idea, like you said only problem is managing the car data to stop cloning, but still loads of people post the cars registrations in pics on here anywhere, so it wouldnt be difficult to clone someones car anyway.I think the best way would be allow people to submit the car specifcs so we can get a database going so people can see a list of cars but the vehicles unique identifiers are hidden (reg etc). However if someone is looking at a car they are interested in and they have the details already, such as engine number, registration or VIN, they can pop that in the search box and it will pop up with a result or not if we have a record of it (rather than letting them browse the database). This way it stops people being able to see data they shouldnt and it allows people to get history on a vehicle that they already have the initial data on.I think that would work great, would just require the staff to be good at data protection and ensure the data base isnt lost/stolen/ which isnt difficult.Hows that sound i think that would work great. This way only genuine people can get car data.

Never being sold in the UK makes it very difficult to gauge how many actually are left... Would making it open to allow people to submit any car, not just there own be a wise move? For example if a rare model of advance pops up on ebay, that isnt associated with a member on here, would it be wise to submit the reg, milage. etc for records...?Im not going to get involved with vin numbers, if someone is that intent on cloning a car, there going to do it with or without this site... I think tieing it in with membership on here would be the best way to stop the wrong fanbase looking through it...
Taggy
Ah yes sorry i dont mean to allow any car to be added, i was just talking about people who are registered members and yes i guess keep it simple with just the reg numberOne of the biggest factors i guess, is to try and get stats on how many of these cars of left, alot get crashed or broken for spares. Socks
Ah yes sorry i dont mean to allow any car to be added, i was just talking about people who are registered members and yes i guess keep it simple with just the reg numberI know, but i was putting the question out there, would it be a good idea for selected trusted people to add cars to the database... I think it would be a wise move, because there will be plenty of EP's out there, that dont use uksc and would never submit, but it would be wise for us to keep a track of!As when you proposed the idea to me last week I 100% back this great idea Good man. Taggy
Yeah why not, i would allow anyone to submit one but it has to be verified properly by a mod first i.e you!I know, but i was putting the question out there, would it be a good idea for selected trusted people to add cars to the database...
