Compression Test Results - jandm project

Recommended Posts

Compression test was done the other day on the project GT and these are the results we got:

cylinder 1 - 180

cylinder 2 - 120/130

cylinder 3- 180

cylinder 4 - 170/180

We were planning on just changing the headgasket but after the result from cylinder 2, were not so sure. Is there any other tests we can do to target what the problem is with cylinder 2? Another thing which we noticed was that the spark plug gap for cylinder 2 was bone dry with what looked like 'rust dust' lol ;)

Any ideas at all will be a great help :)

You need to find out why your loosing compression...

if the headgasket has failed between the cylinder and the waterway or even an oil way... Not a problem, new headgasket would fix it..

If its related to piston or piston ring failure (test this by pooring a egg cup of oil down spark plug hole and re-testing) if the psi goes up then its sealing around the ring and its piston/ring failing. which would be a bottom end repair!

could also be a valve seat!?

From the readings from the other cylinders though the engine looks healthy and not worn, so a piston ring is less likely, I would bet my money on the head gasket, especially if you have got rust residue on your plug.

Cheers socks. We shall give that a go.

your right..

but if piston or ring in cyl 2 is cracked or damaged.. like aaddzz123's engine was... it'd cause this! :)
