NightSpirit
Fitted the 4 pots at the weekend, bearing in mind they've been sat for several months in the box unused....and months before that.Fitted them up to the car all fine, g-clamped the pistons in to get them over the discs...all seems fine. Then I bled the brakes at the rear, and then each of the 4 nipples on the front calipers...all fine. The problem is that the brake pedal still has no 'feel', the pedal fully depresses with no resistance at all...like the brakes are fully on (on the front, the rears spin freely) This is also proven by the fact the car won't move, the front stoppers are locked on.I noticed when I fitted up the rims that the wheels became stiff and stopped moving as the nuts were tightened. I'm thinking that some WD on the pistons and g-clamping them back free may be the best start, also that way I can see if the disc is fouling on anything with the wheel on.Any ideas? ecksjay
my friend fitted my discs and pads, but just to check, did you make sure the pistons were pushed backed all the way before bolting em on? i presume thats what you meant by 'G Clamp', but just checking.
NightSpirit
Yeah matey, clamped them fully open so they'd fit over the discs...the first few times the brakes were pumped the calipers were biting the disc ok aswell....velly velly odd.
lobotomy
Hey mate did you flex these bits back and forth until they moved freely? My mate made a point of telling me to do this when I was fitting my brakes last week.
ecksjay
did you try hitting it all with a hammer?
NightSpirit
Lobotomy,That image you circled is the stock caliper the outlaw...on the left, has no such mechanism on the back or front. And no grandson, I haven't resorted to the hammer yet, I thought I'd get the angle grinder out first and saw some of the pads off. turbo newbie
Did you remove the brake fluid cap when pushing the pistons in and when you bleed the brakes you did the one furthest away from the thingy carnt rember the dame name utter mind block
ecksjay
Did you remove the brake fluid cap when pushing the pistons in and when you bleed the brakes you did the one furthest away from the thingy carnt rember the dame name utter mind block......penis?

NightSpirit
I did rear nearside first, then rear offside, then front nearside, then front offside.I didn't have the fluid cap off though when I did it...but then the brakes are siezed not air in the system I believe? The penis to which Ecks relates being me. NightSpirit
Right chaps...an updateI took the caliper off, freed them up with WD and pumped the pedals a little..all of them move in and (out slightly)...One bugger popped out at one point lol! DOHSo the caliper seems ok. I fitted the wheel to the hub and disc with no caliper and it spins freely..so that's okThe problem comes when I put the caliper on...as soon as I tighten even 1 nut on the wheel, it siezes up, so I'm thinking the disc when it's being clamped down to the hub with the wheel is pressing against the back pad???No idea how to remedy that one though Anyone know a good mobile brake specialist lol
Blue Icarian Wings
A spacer between the hub and disk to bring it out a bit? bearing in mind I dunno what I'm talking about
ecksjay
yer may want a spacer, alot of the boys doing the celica gt4 caliper conversions are using spacers to space the disc out to fit correctly in the new calipers, only need small ones and they may have been used in japan with your kit but just not removed with the kit when it was stripped off the car
NightSpirit
my next question is....how big and spacer? and where would you buy such a thing...halfrauds?
SiCaln
may need one custom made, it has to fit on the inside of the disc after all, not on the face of iti had to have them on my car when i did the Levin conversion too - mine are 8mm thick for clearance
NightSpirit
Cheers Si,Where did you go for them?I may (as a trial) stick some washer spacers on various bits to see what size I need and if it works! On a plus note, when the calipers were freed from the disc, the pedal feel came back when I pumped it...so I need to sort out the spacing, then re-bleed all the brakes again and hopefully be good to go
SiCaln
i got em from Japland cost me £80!
NightSpirit
Where abouts Si?And how did you figure out the corect sizes?
SiCaln
they were custom made for my Levin convo, Japs used to do em quite a lot so had to have em made
ecksjay
might be worth contacting either of these....http://www.outlawdiscbrakes.com/http://www.outlawbrakes.com/...and saying you have the Outlaw 2000 calipers, but dunno what spacer is required for your application (if you cant figure it out ). TomW
Can you not put a small washer inbetween the caliper and the hub? That would take the back pad away from the disc wouldn't it? Easier to try than getting spacers...
NightSpirit
yay @ me Fitted an extra 2 washers to each bolt tonight to bring the calipers back slightly and they now spin freely. Bled the brakes (in the dark and the rain) and hopefully go for the first drive tomorrow!!If I don't post again, you know they failed and I'm dead.

NightSpirit
your cold and calculating nature is so heart warming....lolDrove the car this morning for about 2 mins, the car feels very planted to the road and solid but not too harsh on the coilovers...lots of banging though, so need to check that out. Also very little brake feel, the brakes stop the car, but no pedal feel at all. Think I'll get it to a garage to check out when I can
