Josh@TunerLifestyle Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 right..I've had my race spec rocker cover on for a couple of weeks now and even though the fittings are tightened up propperly there is oil coming out of them from someware :/ anyone else had this problem? how did you solve the issue ?any help is appreciated guys!cheers Quote
Johnboy GT Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 The thing with Jic fittings is that you should do them hand tight then one dlat thereafter and no more. Going beyond that and you begin to stretch the threads. Ideally it would be to chanfe for fittings but you could use a bit of thread tape on them. Its not the best solution but it should work. If you do it that way dont put tape on the cone part of the fitting. I would try changin your hose ends though dude.John Quote
Josh@TunerLifestyle Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 dont worry they arnt mega tight. they were hand tight to start with but it leaked so tightened them up abit more and it stopped abit but its come back :/ thread tape will be first then! fuck forking out for some new fittings lol they are dear enough to buy them once! Starbuck Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 I used ptfe tape (not the best before peeps go....the oil will perish the tape etc etc) and used a bit more than hand tightening as with the tape on its a lot harder to do. Quote
Dean @RW-Developments Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 ye as above ptfe tape! or if your fittings tighten up close to the sace of the male thread on the rocker you could always drop a rubber 0 ring over it Quote
enzo_e492901 Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) Yeah Army-Navy fittings (AN) should not leak. Something is wrong. lolThe hose ends onto the adaptors (number 2 in photo 1) do not need to be very tight and they are easy to damage. Even anodised Aluminium to Aluminium threads and cones/seats will benefit from lubricating to prevent galling. If the hose/end is leaking from......number 1 in photo 1 the hose and end is not assembled properly....number 2 in photo 1 the adaptor cone or the hose end cone seat is damaged. You can get soft aluminium Conical Seals that kinda repair the cone/seat. See photo 2....number 3 in photo 1 there should be PTFE tape or a Dowty type seal washer. See photo 3.Photo 1Photo 2Photo 3Gavin Edited April 7, 2012 by enzo_e492901 Quote
Josh@TunerLifestyle Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 Its all sorted now needed abit of ptfe tape Quote
