Flaminsam
You can always try Parker engineering in york. They specialise in heads but I think they do cranks too.Sorry I think its park engineering? Do a google search. Edited July 8, 2012 by Flaminsam
shorty
Any engine engineering place should do it but make sure its done right. i have one in my forged engine and its a shame you cant see it lol its stunning to look at. mine was nitempered (think that was what it was called) too wich is a heat treatment process to ensure the crank remians strong. HiReN
How much difference do these knife edged cranks make compared to stock, if any body knows?I know that they are allot lighter than standard.
berry
Cheers lads ile shop about what kind of money we talking
shorty
It just allows for less rotating mass and for less resistance tbh. id say response is a tad better but not on a massivly noticeable level and yes its lighter bit again not by a crazy amount. thing is its a small difference on its own but with a fully ballenced bottom end and a light weight fly its all complimenting eachotger for a bigger improvement over stock. as a single mod i wouldnt waste the money but as part of a high spec build up i personaly think every thing you do has a direct effect on other components and for the best result all parts should be improved apon. Here is a stock jdm 4efe crank a stock 4efte you can already see the 4efte crank is of a sleeker shape as stock than an na crankand my knife edged 4efte As you look at mine you can see the overall shape is sleeker and polished to remove as much drag as possable but again the 4efte crank is already an improvement over the na crank. so aplication depending you arnt nessiseraly loosing out buy not running one and plenty of lads run big power without them. it all depends on what you want out of the engine and what set up you will run i guess.Hope that helped a little and sorry for the crappy pics lol
H_D
Knifedge cranks are not as strong as the stock ones,
shorty
Realy?? Says who? If its treated with the corect processes after knife edging it should be as strong if not stronger! Mine has had alot of abuse for over 10k miles and that pic is around 6weeks old. is not a mark on it and as i say its had alot of heavy heavy abuse lol
berry
Looks mint lol what power are you running
AdamB
Nothing wrong with knife edging, but it is wise to get it heat treated and then crack and pressure tested to ensure that there is going to be no long lasting effects.
shorty
Currently 0 lol im still sorting the car out atm. i bought it from a lad 6yrs ago who ran 325 with stock head and no arp main bolts then i ran 2 different ct9 hybrid set ups then a td04 set up then rebuilt the engine and added more parts and vf24 set up and im sticking it in my 4wd ep85 with the vf24 again. should see arond 300ish when its done this time. DevonGT
I wouldn't bother unless you need to run up past the stock rev limit, even then there are other things you could do.
berry
Ok cheers people what money we talking and is yours a 4e or 5e shorty
shorty
4e dude but with huge pistons so its 1386cc lol and devon thats exactly what it was for. the rods where custom made too and the previous owner revved to near 9k! I honestly couldnt say for crank costs but to have a full rebuild with je forged pistons, crank work and custom rods cost the last owner just over 5k 8years ago. we have added greatly to the spec in the time I've had the engine and its bomb proof!! Lol Edited July 10, 2012 by shorty
berry
Bloody hell serious project then what power you planing on runing
shorty
Only looking for around 300 mark tbh as the current car its in is for track so want spool and response. once its running though will guage from there if a bigger turbo and more power is still usable for track.
