jezza
Stopped at traffic lights earlier today and a young woman rear ended my Honda S-MX. Impact speed was probably only 5mph roughly. No visible damage to her 53 plate yaris but the tailgate on my Honda is creased along the bottom edge.Just wondering what I should do. I was going to phone insurance in the morning to let them know whether I decide to claim or not.If it required a new tailgate, that would probably write it off. Would prob be an obscene price from Honda! I do want it sorted as the car is near mint in terms of body work.Nice enough woman, very apologetic and making sure my kids were OK. I have her registration and contact details.Any thoughts?
morgey
Get it priced up for a repair and see if she'll pay, if not go insurance or live with it. Is it visual when the boots closed? If not id leave it i forget my cars had a slight shunt since straightening it out!
jezza
It is visible. I could prob sort it myself but will prob get it priced. My insurance company use my current work place as their bodyshop so that's handy! She sounded like she would be happy to settle outwith insurance but I'd like a quote first. H_D
If you go through insurance i think the accident has to be reported within 24 hours
Asad
Not really, a friend rang up a couple of days later and they didnt mind....^Everyone will say "yeah ill pay for it" buy most times then not when hearing the price they back down and say go thru the insurance so get a price asap and ring her and then write a letter stating an initial deposit and the rest to be paid later which you both sign and keep....this way youve got money to start the repair and she cant just run off without paying the rest....or you can just ask for the full amountCheck your boot floor too
Flaminsam
Not to be a thorn in your side or anything but it is a legal requirement that you report the accident. It can sometimes backfire on yourself if you don't. My grind had a black smx strange things only having 3 doors and a boot lol. I'm sure you will get it sorted though.
