Parking in garage when wet?

I may be moving house shortly and the decision is either to expand the rather small driveway and put gates across, or make the driveway into a largeish garage.

I've been told however if you park a car in a garage when it's wet this accelerates rusting of the car quite dramatically?

Is there any truth to this at all as I'm unsure what to do with the area ATM?

If i was you, id go for garage, no one likes working outside on cars

That's what I thought but the logics there lol, and looking on google people say its true but I dunno

Since my old car rusted I have a serious fear of it lol, but I've got time

To decide before we get anything sorted, shame there's not really room for both lol

As im sure you know, theres a big difference between what people say and what actually happens, especially on the internet.

I can see the logic behind it though.

I've just bought a house with a garage and enough space for 4 cars in front so im sure you can imagine im over the moon!

(No its not a mansion, just lucky to get a corner plot of houses built in the early 60's)

N yeah I know what you mean, we used to have a big garage but it was rotten so we knocked it down, I now have a really long drive, has space for one car out front, and enough for 7+ cars along the side/back of the house, gutted I have to move

Out eventually but family problems means unless I win the lottery I can't stay lol

My dads mini had a little bit of rust in the boot, had been thee for years, he parked it in a double garage when he moved house and within a year or so the whole boot had been eaten away by rust, so he had to cut it all out and weld new panels in his garage was always damp and he said that the garage definatley speeded up the rust process.

However his was a mini that are know for their rust, so it was going to rust anyway! Haha I've only ever heard of one starlet rusting

I think if the car already has rust, the garage will make it worse.

I think if the car already has rust, the garage will make it worse.

If the car already is corroding it wont stop if kept dry or out of the weather, a damp garage will definately increase the rate of corrosion.

I have a couple of rust spots on my starlet, a little bit under the paint on one of the rear quarters, just a little bubble. And I've got i patch the size of 4 fingers where its had a door skin fitted years ago and someone touched the bare metal with naked skin.

That's the thing it's got absolutely nothing except minute surface rust on like steering components, all the rest Is under sealed and I don't want to have a rust bucket in a few years lol

Reminds me of my mate who had an eg that had the typical rotten arches, hes now terrified his teg is gonna fall apart. id like to think if your garage aint damp youd be alright

If you made sure the garage is pretty air tight and well sealed you could always run a dehumidifier now and again to dry it out in there. My mate does this with his gt4

I have an air chamber you could set up in the garage mate my dad used it for years to keep his classic in and there wasnt a spot of rust on it ;)

My GT has lived in my garage for years now, I have parked it in ther wet many many times and then not even looked at if for weeks afterwards.....

Not a spot of rust anywhere

this is true yes, i keep my corolla gti in my garage and the starlet on the drive, if the corolla gets wet or anything then i always leave the garage door open so that the air can circulate and dry the car out before i put it away, otherwise the damp can hang around for a very long time
