Screamer pipe, what is it?

Well I dont wanna sound like an idiot but what is a screamer pipe?? I know of them but how they work etc is new to me so can someone please elaborate thanks

Basically web your wastegate opens it dumps these exhaust gases straight out the screamer pipe rather than back into the exhaust

The wastegate regulates the amount of boost the engine makes use off...

Excess gases are vented either down the exhaust system, or down a screamer pipe... Or the system would just boost to 1000bar....

Screamer pipes get there name from the noise they make
