Sefton-EP91
I have a 97 glanza and when trying to start from cold but mainly warm the engine takes loads of turns to crank. Then eventually it fires up. The car has a fuel pressure regulator installed but don't know if it is this thats maybe causing the problem. What do you guys think? Thank you. jakeep82
some times mine does this i take the key out lock and unlock the car put key in turn it and it goes straight away dont ask me how but seems to work for me!
Sefton-EP91
I find if I switch it off then try again it fires up with a lot less cranking but still more than expected. I brought the car with modifications already installed so I do not know what has been messed around with which is kind of annoying now I have the car. I have a feeling it is a fuelling issue but them I could be wrong.

Sefton-EP91
Yep see that's half my problem. If I knew what they had touched or messed with then I stand more of a chance sorting it. Could my leads be earthing out or something like that. The previous owner fitted magnicor leads? Or damp plugs?
daniel_g
Think the problem you guys have is the fuel pump not priming properly on ignition / cranking.
jakeep82
so would that mean a new fuel pump is in order?
Hawwy
Turbo timer going off with handbrake is wired like that so if its on nobody can steal it and drive it by leep turning the timer up
Sefton-EP91
Same questin as jakeep82. Would that then mean new fuel pump? Or could it be resolved with something else?
jakeep82
ah thats quite handy never thought of it like that !!
Sefton-EP91
Could the problem have anything to do with the fuel pressure regulator?
daniel_g
What pressure is it showing whilst cranking? You will obv need someone to do it so you can read the guage. Try changing the fuel filter first as its prob clogged up, relatively cheap aswell. Just before you go changing the pump. Jake you should know if yours is on its way out now the rear interior is stripped, because it'll be whining its tits off.
Sefton-EP91
Thanks mate I'll check it tomorrow whilst at work. I'll also get a fuel filter for it.
Sefton-EP91
What should the regulator be showing? I am new to this stuff. Thanks for all the info by the way. It's much appreciated.

Sefton-EP91
Old post but thought I would add, I have just recently started to get a noise (crunching/grinding) on start up, it only when I turn the key for engine start whilst engine is turning over, have a feeling it could be starter motor but you guys have any ideas or had something familiar? ThanksThought I would add the starter has never failed to turn on the car.. Edited October 24, 2012 by Sefton-EP91
Starbo Moorley
Sounds like starter stickin in, check flywheel ring gear too
Sefton-EP91
When you say starter sticking in do you mean it's not fully come out of the housing?
