more support, on honda's it sits in the center on the flywheel/crankshaft and comes as part of a clutch kit. i guess it supports the shaft when the clutch is released minamising shaft movement and prolonging the life of the first bearing in the gearbox.

that is just a guess so might be wrong lol

Do these boxs have trouble with main shaft bearings?

Think the dowels place a big part of shaft alignment, we just had a evo smash a twin plate carbon clutch due to dowels being left out and box. Badly aligned.

Depending on clearances once could be machined on a lathe?

I've never come across this, what's the reason for interest ?

Im having some work done on my gear box at the moment and the guy whos building it wanted to know if any of the EP models had a pilot bearing
