andy91145
Got a new mani and decat to fit but from the looks of it the exhaust manifold has not been removed like ever so it's been a bit of a bastard to get off, I have soaked them in WD over night tried it when it's warm, cold etc etc. What is the best way of freeing them without cracking the head? also how do people get the 2 central nuts and the two at the bottom? they seem awkward to get at! JayJ
CRC and heatgun are good combo. You will need a 14mm ring spanner for the central nuts and turbo needs to come off to get the bottom ones.
rinseep82
to get the bottom ones mate the one next to the water lines use a ratchet extension and a 14mm socket and for the other side just move the power steering pump and you can get to it
StuDoc 72
Aye take the power steering pump off to get the left hand side bottom 1 and do above for the right hand side. I used a spanner for all 4 of the centre 1s then ratchet on the 2 outside nuts. You shouldnt have to split the kit at all. Its just more hassle than its worth IMO really depends on your skill level. If your not as familiar working on an engine then removing it bit by bit might be the only option.
rinseep82
It's a lot of hassle getting to the back bolts to remove the turbo anyway might aswell just spend your time getting the mani nuts off splitting is just a waste of time it is a pain mate but it can be done
andy91145
Going to try and tackle this Thursday then I have a full day to get angry at it. I would rather not split it but there is just no room to get in! I might have to borrow a heat gun. Also this may sound odd but has anyone every tried using coca cola instead of WD I have read that the acidity of it can help when it's soaked for a while?
RobSR
Yea the coca cola myth does work sometimes, I've used it a few times but it does need a good soak for a while
mikey4410
the key is soaking constantly as much as poss a few days before ideally. then take it very easy undoing them as u dont wana shear anything of or break it. if not that then i would try some heat . i would have thought that the best way to undo them is when the engines really hot, make the rad fan come on at least then go for it
JayJ
I had to take my setup off again, so I did as rinseep82 and StuDoc said and removed PAS pump. It was so much faster and easier way than splitting. Cheers guys :- ]
