Need more info on FPR's

Recommended Posts

My ep91 glanza has been hitting fuel cut and after hearing various opinions I decided to buy a self learning ECU, my car is fitted with a FPR so after I fit the ECU should I remove the FPR or take it to a rolling road and get the FPR properly set up? Or is that not needed? Thanks

Right, first things first:

Self learning ecu is mythological, if it's a plug and play it's just got a more aggressive map and things like fuel cut removed.

Keeping the FPR and getting it RR'd is the best idea as your tuner can make better adjustments where required and it will be handy if you ever feel like changing to a remappable ecu, a bit lean you'll melt a piston, a bit rich and you'll dilute your oil with petrol from borewash and cost yourself an engine. Plus they can monitor Pre ignition and ensure your not close to det.

An afr gauge is a good idea also so you can monitor afrs (Air:fuel ratios) yourself (You can set the fuelling yourself with them) but don't go for an ebay gauge that says lean or rich, you need something more precise - Wideband... Take a look at the aem, plx systems, and innovate ones.
