Dusty
Hi all recently bought myself a starlet glanza v all the modifications are aftermarket exhaust system ( still standard manifold and cat) the ac ripped out and a bigger inter cooler with an air induction kit, wantin to get it mapped but unsure of what way to do it, heard of standalone ECU's or piggy back and all the rest , on a bit of a budget at the moment , what would be the best way to get a bit more power the cheapest way , any help appreciated cheers guys
GP82
If not already done, the hi/lo boost solenoid bypass will be a good one to do. Replacing the standard actuator for a reinforced adjustable one like a HKS is a good mod too. Piggy back ecu i would recommend Emanage Ultimate or AEM FIC, they both work well on the EP. Some members have ported the stock exhaust manifold with good results, but if you are planning to increase the power and boost i would highly recommend getting the stock cat/downpipe replaced for a decat as this is quite a big restriction and will help your motor to breathe easy. It would be a good idea to give the car a service before you start to increase the power! Edited October 31, 2013 by GP82
Dusty
Cheers bud yeah was going to get her in for a service first was just wanting to see what I could d as a first power preformance upgrade, just to see what I woould need, as far as I know the hi low boost has been bypassed , not wantin to pay extremly mad prices for ecu and that, but willing to pay decent price for decent parts, what would be the best ecu to get get? Been speakin to a guy from GI moter sport and he said I'd be best gettin a power fc and seperate boost controll any mapable ecu would do as they can remap any ecu ,Cheers for the good info bud
Amjad
Apex'i is a bit OTT, quite expensive I think?Just do all the bolt on stuff first, there's a 200bhp guide Socks wrote up
Dusty
Yeah I've seen that to, some good info on it, just wanting to know what budget ecu and boost controler I could use any one got any recomendations? Thinking of gettin her a service decat downpipe uprated fuel pump, just unsure about which ecu to get for a decent price, doesn't have to be to fancy is am not planning in tunning It to the moon just a bit more power than I have 200 bhp would be more than enuff I'd be happy 180 or sumthing along those lines
Amjad
I use a Mine's ECU which is good, similar ones are JAM, Blitz etc Alternatively a Greddy EMB/EMU
wickedep
if your on a budget then you best best is the e-manage blue mate. power Fc is old and expensive. there are much better programmable ecu's out there for that kind of money. you can also look into the haltech sprint 500. but emanage blue will work fine. Dusty
What kind of money is in the emanage blue ? And would I need a boost controller with that aswell? Also is there any recomendations on ugrading the fuel flow? Thanks a lot for all the usefull info guys Edited November 2, 2013 by Dusty
Dusty
Do any of u guy recomend any budget(but good) boost controller? Thanks again guys, I'm new to the world of starlets and all your info if much appreciatedCheers dusty:)
Amjad
Most people use Blitz, HKS etc boost controllers You don't actually need one but it'd help deliver power better. Also for fuel flow it is probably worthwhile getting an uprated pump but an adjustable FPR isn't necessary if you're getting a new ECU.
wickedep
mate a new e-manage blue will run you around $400-450usd. you can find them for half easily used on the forums. if ever you decide to upgrade turbos, you can still use them. many 250-300hp starlet around with the e-manage. a manifold upgrade is a must..porting stock manifold will work but you'd be more susceptible to the stock cast manifold cracking once that's done. a after market manifold is your best bet. good electronic boost controller would be an Apexi avcr. as amjad said..fuel pressure regulator not needed if you have an ecu. 255lph fuel pump upgrade would help..try a walboro drop in pump. sacha
Gainzy
http://www.ukstarletowners.com/page/articles.html/_/tuning-4efte/stage-1-200bhp-stock-engine-stock-turbo-r35Go through this it's all there think about mapping last after you get all the mods together, if your only looking for 180bhp then a plug n play ecu such as blitz, JAM etc will do the job alot of people go for the e manage blue route for the price of a plug n play but it's up to youif I was you my next mod would be a blitz decat get things flowing better
Gainzy
You don't need a boost controller neither put your cash into a good boost gauge aswell that's one of the most important parts imo
Dusty
I've already got a boost gauge aswell as oil pressure and temp gauges, is the emanage blue not a plug and play? Would I be best to go down the route if plug and play and all the bolt on bits ie decat downpipe, are the plug and play as simple as pulling the plug from the standerd ecu and plugging in the new one?Cheers again guys Edited November 2, 2013 by Dusty
Dusty
So would I be best gettin a decat downpipe, walbro fuel pump and a plug and play ecu? No need for turbo controller? Cheers again guys help much aprecciated
Amjad
Yes, and also a HKS actuator if you don't have one already

Gainzy
So would I be best gettin a decat downpipe, walbro fuel pump and a plug and play ecu? No need for turbo controller? Cheers again guys help much aprecciated Yes and no need for a boost controller you will need a new manifold look into zisco or wepr before adjusting the boost as the stock mani has a restriction in the third runner, also buy genuine gaskets from toyota! Don't buy cheap crappy one's off ebay if you want reliable parts you have to pay good money it's an exspensive game
Dusty
Ok its due an mot next month so just going to get her threw mot while cat still on and get new mani aswell as new gaskets, yeah ano not wantin to scrimp gettin cheap sh*ty parts willing to pay for genuine parts just not wantin to pay extreme prices for top range stuff when I'm not planning in going over the top, I'll keep that in mind tho thanks
