fordie_glanzaV
Currently running a c52 box with oem lsd. Which needs rebuilding.Got chance of a c56 box which also needs syncros replacing but can get it fairly cheap. So was thinking of getting that and rebuilt so i can do a straight swap...I read that the c52 has a longer 3rd and 4th ratio but is there a noticeable drop between the boxes??? fordie_glanzaV
Im not sure which 1 it is. Just going from the link i saw on here about identifying the 2 boxes that mines the c52Just struggling to find a another oem lsd box and managed to find a cheap c56 lsd box. Only running 200bhp so im sure 56 box will be strong enough. Just didnt know how much of a loss im gunna notice in those 2 gears.
Socks
3rd & 4th gear is longer in c52... That's the easiest way to tell... Like 6-7mph more in 3rd... Which is ALOT better suited for 300bhp+
Socks
C56 - 195/50/15 - 7500rpm limiter 1st Gear - 43mph 2nd Gear - 71mph 3rd Gear - 98mph 4th Gear - 132mph 5th Gear - 167mph C52 - 195/50/15 - 7500rpm limiter 1st Gear - 43mph 2nd Gear - 71mph 3rd Gear - 104mph 4th Gear - 140mph 5th Gear - 167mph So 6mph more in 3rd and 8mph more in 4th
fordie_glanzaV
Cheers mate. But that makes me really wanna keep the c52 box..lolI've never had much experience with gearboxes. If i got the c52 3rd and 4th gears would they fit the c56 box?
AdamB
Cheers mate. But that makes me really wanna keep the c52 box..lolI've never had much experience with gearboxes. If i got the c52 3rd and 4th gears would they fit the c56 box?Yes they would. And I wouldn't say the C52 is stronger than the C56, its just the fact the ratio's are longer therefore the torque is better spread. fordie_glanzaV
So if i can get the 3rd and 4th from toyota when i get syncos they should all go in 56 box :-D :-D
morgey
You would need the drive gear and the dogged gear (freewheeling gear for each) expect to be paying £200 for each of the freewheeling gears and another 150 for the drive gears. 2nd gear alone was 275ish when I looked at rebuilding mine. If I were you I'd get a couple of scrapped boxes and find good bits from each. That's what I did and now have a perfect c56 for the total cost of gearbox oil.
fordie_glanzaV
Cheers morgey thats kinda summed it up for me.. I think im gunna get this 56 box I've found cus On me lunch I've been out to my car and had a look about.Looking at this page http://www.ukstarletowners.com/page/articles.html/_/drivetrai/c52-gt-turbo-vs-c56-glanza-gearboxs-r45My casing the same as the c52 but running a 195/50/15 tyre my car limits in third @ 100mphAnd is around 135mph in 4th.. Frankieflowers
Hi guys! Anyone knows the amount of torque that the C52 (out of a Starlet ep82) can resist?
