SmurfyBhoy
Think my headgasket is blown. Been pricing things like gasket kit head bolts oil pump waterpump t/belt kit etc. Confident enough to strip down and change head gasket myself. But at the minute i only have £1000 to spend so cant stretch to forged bits. Question is am i better to spend all my cash rebuilding it with stock internals and new pumps etc. Or is it best to save that bit extra and buy a SECOND HAND forged engine ??? fremyjay
You could get a second forged for around 1k, then do headgasket on yours and flog it to re-coup some cash
SmurfyBhoy
Hoping a forged motor pops up. Just at least wen u build urself u hav piece of mind.
argylefan1985
Pistons rods gasket and head bolts 1100 machining block won't be a lot. I say save a couple hundred quid and forge it my man.
SmurfyBhoy
Yea but i wouldnt want to just put forged pistons and rods into the old block with old pumps and belts. Closer to 1700 ive worked out. And thats just parts !! Thot u have to skim head and block etc. Probs gona keep saving in hope forged lump pops up. Doesnt happen often tho. argylefan1985
Water pump and oil pump won't be a lot. I've priced mine all up and it's comming to less than that
SmurfyBhoy
It would be best in the long run. Will need to have a good look around. Try and keep things to a minimum.
fremyjay
Try browner hes always got forged lumps coming in, as above it will cost nearly £2k to get it done properly, block work, parts and then bits and bobs and new tools if you havent already got what you need
SmurfyBhoy
Yea i thot that. And thats if everything goes smoothly with the build. Can easily end up bak at square 1 !!

Kyle_R
Well 1bar on a ct9 is pushing it! That was my setup and the engine let go. Personally go forged .8 bar then upgrade from there I've had my GT 3 years now and I'm going forged 300bhp build

Kyle_R
In a nutshell if you plan to mod It while in your possesion get a forged motor mate
AdamB
I don't trust E series engines as far as I can throw em tbh, forging would always be high on my list of priorities and spanking £1000 into a stock engine seems a waste to me. I would be looking for a second hand forged motor, can pick them up for around £1500ish, always handy if you want to do more mods later on.
