If you run a good standalone ecu something like Link, Haltech, Motec, Syvecs etc then you can have safety features switched on (you will still need a sensor) this relays info back to the ecu and the mapper can set a limit ie say fuel pressure, once the ecu see's that the fuel pressure has dropped below that pre-set value it will automatically shut the engine down.

Or if you have something really clever like the Syvecs units if your fuel pressure drops and you have a missfire it will automatically shut down individual cylinders until it detects no problems and will carry on running the engine on x number of cylinders in limp mode.

With something like that you don't need any gauges, it distracts you away from actually driving the car and sometimes if something bad were to happen you may not intervene quick enough to prevent any damage.

Agree a fair crack with this hence why I went for the plx wideband as it can store peaks etc so you have some idea of what happened and WOT

Plus an e01 boost controller which datalogs from inputs and monitors with warns

Fair points from the above and I bet if you bought all the gauges newte price would be crazy rather than going for a top notch ecu set up and ebc, at the same time I hate buying things nobody can see nothing like a fully lit up cock pit :D

Hi,

So I have decided I want gauges to monitor oil pressure, oil temperature, boost and possibly water temperature. You guys have told me it's best to go for electrical type gauges but now I am stuck on what extra hardware I need to order to get them all plumbed in? Do gauges come with sandwich plate ect (if I need them). If someone could tell me what I will need to plumb each type of gauge in that would be great and also a link to some kind of how to would be brilliant.

I found a duel Racetech gauge which showed both oil pressure and temperature but I think it was mechanical does anyone know if they offer an electrical version as to have dual gauges might save me some money. Finally what mounting options are people using on here? Can you use any generic type mounts? I want to mount them in front of the clock on the dash.

Why not have a look at some of the entry level Stack mechanical gauges. Speak with Think Automotive they'll supply you everything you need to fit them.

The cheapy electric ones aren't likely to be very well calibrated. Some might say your better off with no gauge at all, than with something cheap and unknown.
